Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that Carlos Beltran has agreed to a three-year deal with the New York Yankees. The contract is worth $45 million according to what a source told Feinsand. A rival executive told Andy Martino that if the numbers are accurate, this might be the best signing of the offseason. If you’re trying to do the math, that’s Beltran, Brian McCann and Jacoby Ellsbury for $283 million so far for the Yankees. Beltran […]
Well I don’t know about you but all that hot stove action yesterday gave me a serious case of whiplash as well as extreme nausea . It is not out of the ordinary for many deals – whether it is trades or free agent signings to get done before the winter meetings, but so many big names came off the board last night – capped by the cross town Yankees completely blowing up the free agent […]
The Kansas City Royals have signed free-agent starting pitcher Jason Vargas to a four-year, $32 million deal. Vargas, 30, will replace the departed Ervin Santana in the Royals rotation. General manager Dayton Moore initially pushed hard to sign righthander Tim Hudson before he ended up signing with San Francisco. The lefthanded Vargas was 9-8 with a 4.02 ERA in 24 starts last season for the Angels, but missed almost two months of the season following surgery […]
Last month, Keith Law had an interesting article about how the new CBA punishes low-revenue teams like Royals (or the Mets?) for trying to win under tight financial constraints. Unfortunately, it’s an ESPN Insider subscription-only article, but I will share one part of it that kind of encapsulates the full thrust of his entire argument. The problem for teams like the Royals and other low-revenue teams under the new CBA is that there’s a strong […]

Zack Wheeler lasted just five innings as the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets 6-2 to win the three-game interleague series. Wheeler, now 4-2, lost for the first time in six starts. He gave up four runs — three earned — and issued five walks in his ninth start of the season. The young righty seemed to come unglued in the fifth after Marlon Byrd lost a ball in the sun and John […]

Former Mets shortstop Jose Reyes continues to make a rapid recovery from the severely sprained left ankle he suffered on April 12. Reyes started running for the first time on Friday, and he continues to push the envelope in his recovery process, according to Team officials. “It was a little bit scary for me,” Reyes said of his first time running. “But I am pain free. I’m very happy the way that I performed yesterday; […]
For those of you that missed it, there was a strange play that took place during the Detroit Tigers’ 7-5 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. Quite frankly, I’ve never seen anything like it before. Here’s what happened along with the accompanying video from MLB.com. During the third inning with the Tigers trailing 4-2 and base runners Prince Fielder on third and Victor Martinez at second, Jhonny Peralta lined a single to […]
