Well, how about that? This was an excellent team effort for the win tonight in Colorado and it wrapped up an excellent road trip for our New York Mets. Whether these games will matter down the line or not, it’s nice to see our team banding together and playing some decent baseball for an extended period of time. It was Jeremy Hefner on the mound tonight — and surprise, surprise…he was effective. Hefner allowed two […]
Mets 4, Phillies 3 The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 tonight at Citizens Bank Park to open their three game series. The Mets have won five of their last seven games. Jeremy Hefner started and after a rough second inning that saw him give up three early runs, he settled down and held the Phillies scoreless for the next four innings while the Mets battled back to take the lead. His final […]
Wright rounds the bases after hitting his second home run of the game tonight… On the strength of three home runs, two of them by David Wright, the Mets beat the Braves by the score of 4-3 tonight at Turner Field to take the rubber game of a five-game series. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good news as the Mets may have potentially lost lefthander Jon Niese for an extended period of time after he came […]
Andy Martino of the Daily News is reporting that a source told him the Mets do not intend to trade Bobby Parnell as the trade deadline approaches and consider him to be a “valuable” piece for the team. Martino says this supports Alderson’s claim that he could be a buyer at the trade deadline and not a seller which many expected to be the case. The GM’s decision not to shop the closer speaks to […]
Dillon Gee was dominant for the Mets as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5-1 tonight at Citi Field to even the series at one game apiece. It was the third consecutive solid outing for Gee who is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in that span. The righthander held one of the most potent offenses in the game to just one earned run tonight in 6.2 innings pitched, scattering just six […]
Couldn’t help reading today that Bobby Parnell deserves to be an All Star on MetsBlog. Sorry, but I beg to differ. Parnell ranks 13th out of 15 National League closers with 9 saves. The leader, Pittsburgh’s Jason Grilli, has 22 saves, while Edward Mujica of the Cardinals and Craig Kimbrel have 17 saves each. All three have ERAs of 1.93 or lower. Do those three deserve to be All Stars? You bet they do. Parnell isn’t […]
After an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the lowly Miami Marlins and a loss to begin the Nats series, the Mets find themselves on pace for just 66 wins and 96 losses which would amount to their worst season in a full decade. Certainly there is time for such grim propositions to change, but with fans already checking out at the idea of yet another lost season, the Mets’ problems are much deeper than […]
I’m feeling very ill tonight so I hope you don’t mind this very condensed version of tonight’s game. The Mets blew a 2-1 ninth inning lead as the Washington Nationals tagged closer Bobby Parnell for two runs in their dramatic 3-2 walk-off win. Jeremy Hefner threw an absolute gem, holding the Nats to one run on four hits while striking out seven. His only blemish was a solo home run to Ian Desmond. As I […]
If you didn’t know any better, you would think the Mets only had two relievers in their bullpen; closer Bobby Parnell and lefthander Scott Rice. On those rare occasions when the Mets need to protect a late lead, Parnell and Rice have been Terry Collins‘ first line of defense and his go-to guys. For Rice, it has led to an NL-leading 32 appearances. That puts the late-blooming rookie on pace for 96 appearances this season. […]
