It was a quiet night for offensive output in the Mets minor leagues, though Mark Vientos continued with his strong start to the season for Triple-A Syracuse. We will have a minor league game chat on MMO tonight, starting around 6 p.m. ET.

Triple-A

Charlotte Knights (6-11) 4, Syracuse Mets (9-7) 2

BOX SCORE

The Syracuse offense had 11 hits on the afternoon, but they struggled to get the hit in the big moments as they were 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base. Nevertheless, Mark Vientos stayed red hot at the plate with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. The third baseman has recorded at least three hits in each of the last two games and has five RBIs over that span.

Thompson hit a solo home run in the fourth, his third home run in the last four games. He now has a streak of three straight games with an RBI.

  • RHP Dominic Hamel (6.23 ERA): 5.1 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 6 K (51 of 83 pitches for strikes)
  • LHP Josh Walker (0-1, 3.12): 1.1 IP, 2 ER, 1 H, BB, K (15 of 27 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Sean Reid-Foley (Rehab Assignment): 1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H (11 of 16 pitches for strikes)

While Hamel did not have the 10-strikeout performance he had in his last start, the control was much better than his first outing of the year against Scranton Wilkes-Barre. The only mistake he made up until the sixth was a solo home run by Danny Mendick in the third inning.

Reid-Foley continued his rehab assignment by throwing a scoreless eighth inning in his second rehab outing. His fastball was up to 97 mph during the outing.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (4-5) had their game against the Reading Fightin’ Phils (3-7) postponed due to inclement weather. They will make up the game as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, with Game 1 beginning at 5:15 p.m. ET.

High-A

Jersey Shore BlueClaws (7-4) 9, Brooklyn Cyclones (4-7) 0

BOX SCORE

The Cyclones only managed five hits in Wednesday night’s loss. Clifford had a double in the top of the first to extend his hit streak to four games.

  • RHP Nolan McLean (0-1, 9.00): 2.2 IP, 6 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 4 K (38 of 64 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Ben Simon (6.00): 1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K (16 of 21 pitches for strikes)

In his second start of the season, McLean struggled to find the plate with his three walks as well as a wild pitch. The BlueClaws ended up scoring six of their nine runs in the bottom of the third despite only recording one extra-base hit for the entire game.

Low-A

Tampa Tarpons (3-8) 5, St. Lucie Mets (4-7) 1

BOX SCORE

The St. Lucie offense struck out 13 times against three different Tampa pitchers. Their lone run of the afternoon came via a wild pitch that allowed Baez to score. Perozo had the lone multi-hit game on the offense (doubles in three straight games). Meanwhile, Houck had his seventh game this year in which he has struck out at least twice.

  • RHP Ernesto Mercedes (0-1, 6.48): 3.1 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 4 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 3 WP (41 of 67 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Jack Wenninger (3.75): 5 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 7 K (48 of 68 pitches for strikes)

Mercedes struggled with his command on Wednesday/ The 20-year-old right-hander has at least two walks in each of his first three appearances at Low-A. Wenninger followed him in relief, and the 6th-round pick in 2023 has 15 strikeouts in his last two appearances (8.1 innings of work).
