Sheffield Becomes The Latest Guest At The DL Hotel
According to our friend Adam Rubin in his Daily News blog, Gary Sheffield has become the latest Mets player to be placed on the disabled list. He will be replaced on the Mets roster by tonight’s starting pitcher, Jonathon Niese. Sheffield hadn’t played since the July 18 game against the Braves, when he was taken out of the game with a leg cramp after chasing a base hit in left field. At the time, Sheffield [...]

K-Rod Was Also The Object Of Bernazard’s Ire
According to a new entry on Bart Hubbuch’s Mets blog for the NY Post, Mets minor league players were not the only ones subjected to the mad ravings of Mets VP Tony Bernazard. Bart Hubbuch writes, It turns out that ripping his shirt off and challenging minor-league players to fight him isn’t even Tony Bernazard’s most recent incident of outrageous, hot-headed conduct. New York Mets All-Star closer Frankie Rodriguez confirmed this afternoon that he exchanged words on [...]

We Take These Reports Seriously and Are Investigating the Matter
That was the statement the New York Mets released today regarding the firestorm surrounding a report that Joe posted earlier today regarding Mets VP of Player Development. Who do the Mets think they are fooling? They knew about these incidents long before they leaked out thanks in great part to the investigative efforts of Adam Rubin of the Daily News. They had this information in their hands since prior to the All Star break, but [...]

Oh, ROY… Here’s a BARRY Interesting Situation…
It was revealed a few hours ago that the Mets were offered Cy Young winner Roy Halladay for a collection of Bobby Parnell, Fernando Martinez, Jon Niese, and Ruben Tejada and Omar Minaya rejected the trade. Many seem to see this as a way of giving up, and it could appear that way. But let’s take a look at what we’re doing, not what we’re giving up, and what Omar must be thinking in rejecting [...]

Mets DL Fernando Nieve, Call Up Cory Sullivan
The Mets have placed starting pitcher Fernando Nieve on the disabled list with a strained right quadricep muscle. Nieve hurt himself while running to first base in Sunday’s game against the Braves, and he pulled up lame. He had to be carted off the field. I’m a little surprised that the Mets opted to replace him with outfielder Cory Sullivan who was promored from AAA-Buffalo. Sullivan was batting .290 with 2 homers and 24 RBIs. [...]

Snake Eyes! Gary Sheffield Pulls Up Lame
The Mets may have just lost Gary Sheffield to the disabled list after he pulled up lame trying to chase down a Yunel Escobar double. Sheffield caught up with the ball, flipped it to Angel Pagan, and grabbed his right leg in pain. After a long injury delay, he was escorted off the field by the trainer and replaced by Jeremy Reed. The Mets will most likely be without Sheffield for a significant amount of [...]

Are We Going To The Playoffs?
Now that we are pretty much at the halfway point of the season, it is time to look and see what is in store for the next half of the season. After 87 games the Mets are 42-45 and 6.5 back in the division and the wild card. Presumably the Mets want to get 88-90 wins to make the playoffs. That means that the Mets will have to go 48-27 in the next few months. [...]

A Delgado & Reyes Return Is Better Than A Blockbuster Trade
The Mets got some good news today on the eve of the All Star break regarding shortstop Jose Reyes and first baseman Carlos Delgado. According to several reports, both Delgado and Reyes worked out before Sunday’s game against the Reds and by all accounts everyone was all smiles. They both participated in agility drills on the field, but then Delgado got his first batting practice swings since undergoing right hip surgery in May. He is expected to [...]
