Phillies, Braves, Marlins Among Top 10 Farm Systems, Mets Ranked #20
John Manuel of Baseball America, posted the latest ranking of MLB’s farm systems on SI.com. Baseball America ranks the 30 MLB farm systems twice a year — in the spring, as the minor league season is about to start, and again every December. In the latest rankings, the Texas Rangers have the best overall farm system and the Houston Astros finished last. I’m more concerned about the National League East where the Philadelphia Phillies ranked [...]

The Final Arbitration Scorecard
When yesterday’s midnight deadline finally came and went, the Mets decided to stand pat and did not offer arbitration to any of their six remaining free agents. Carlos Delgado and Fernando Tatis, both Type B free agents, are not totally out of the picture yet, and the Mets could still opt to bring both of them back. As much as I like both of them, I just think it’s time to move on and change [...]

Elmer Dessens To Return Next Season?
According to FoxSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi, the Mets are interested in bringing back reliever, Elmer Dessens, for the 2010 season. In 2009, Dessens was quite the bargain for the Mets as he had his best year in the big leagues since 2005, posting a 3.31 ERA in 32.2 innings. His K:BB ratio wasn’t the best (14:10), but he was still able to manage to get hitters out. The 13 year veteran has [...]

2010 Mets Coaching Staff
The New York Mets have completed their 2010 Major League coaching staff this week. New additions include Dave Jauss as bench coach and Chip Hale as third base coach. Among the incumbents, Razor Shines, the third base coach in 2009, moves to first base, while Howard Johnson (hitting coach), Dan Warthen (pitching coach) and Randy Niemann (bullpen coach) will continue in their same roles. Also, the Mets also named Terry Collins, who is in his 40th [...]

Miguel Cabrera or Adrian Gonzalez: Who Fits Better Into The Mets’ Future?
Before you read any further I would like to issue a disclaimer of sorts. Despite all the buzz around the internet suggesting that Adrian Gonzalez and/or Miguel Cabrera, I don’t believe that either will be traded this off-season. Furthermore, I would like to go out on a limb and say that even if they were to be traded, I don’t see the Mets on the receiving end of either of the potential deals. Think about [...]

Breaking Down The Mets Bullpen: Bobby Parnell
Prior to the 2009 season, Bobby Parnell knew that he was, by no means, guaranteed to make the Opening Day roster. Nonetheless, he worked hard and pitched very well in Spring Training, which him earned a spot on the 25-man roster. His role with the team was supposed to be the seventh inning bridge to J.J. Putz and Francisco Rodriguez, and foor the first half of the year his role on the team was just [...]

A Nightmarish Scenario
Did some of you catch Adam Rubin’s column this morning in the Daily News? Well I did, and it made me feel quite woozy afterward. Adam revealed a potential Mets backup option if they were to fail to get either Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. Meet Plan C? That’s Jose Guillen, currently of the Kansas City Royals. The same Jose Guillen who has worn out his welcome with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks, [...]

CitiField Getting A Mets Makeover In 2010 – FINALLY!
Changes are afoot at Citi Field and according to the team’s website, the Mets announced plans to expand the presence of club history at Citi Field next season. This was no doubt spurned on by the thousands of disappointed fans who felt the park paid more homage to the Dodgers than it did to the Mets. Here are some of the key changes as described on Mets.com RENAMING OF AREAS IN BALLPARK The Mets will rename and [...]

Luis Castillo In 3-Team Deal For Kevin Millwood?
Update 12:20 PM MetsBlog is reporting that the deal is dead acording to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. Too bad, it would have been a nice prelude to the rest of the hot stove season for the Mets. Original Post 11:40 PM Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Cubs are continuing to explore ways to move outfielder Milton Bradley, and says that they are still working on a three team deal to get [...]
