According to Matt Eddy of Baseball America, the Mets have signed outfielders Corey Patterson and Mike Wilson to Minor League contracts. Patterson, 33, last played in the majors in 2011 where he hit .157 with three RBI in 57 plate appearances with the Cardinals. Last season, he batted .251/.285/.410 in 387 plate appearances for Triple-A Nashville in the Brewers system. Former Detroit Tigers closer Jose Valverde is on the verge of signing with the Miami Marlins according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com. The Mets announced they have signed free-agent RHP LaTroy Hawkins to a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training. If Hawkins makes the team, he will earn a base salary of $1 million with chance to earn more in incentives. According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets and Daniel Murphy have avoided arbitration and agreed on a one-year deal for $2.925 million dollars. Murphy, 27, had been seeking $3.4 million while the Mets countered with a $2.55 million offer.
