Should Beltran Or Pagan Take Center Stage?

Earlier today, Carlos Beltran announced that he would like to finish his career as a New York Met, but would listen to trade offers if the Mets chose to deal him during the last year of his contract.  He also said he would be open to moving to a corner outfield position if the Mets felt it was best, but preferred his customary center field position. Barring any off-season trades, the Mets outfield will feature Jason [...]

Video: SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt Interviews Sandy Alderson

Sandy Alderson sat down with SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt for the premier of Mets Hot Stove Weekly which broadcasts every Thursday at 7:00 PM. Clip #1 – Alderson talks about the importance of zone rating on defense and said Derek Jeter won a Gold Glove because he makes all the plays even though his range is not a good as some other shortstops. He also discusses his draft philosophy and talks about the slotting system. Clip #2 – [...]

Best Front Office Or Best Overreactions?

Lately I have been observing many of the reactions to Sandy Alderson becoming the new Mets GM and also reactions to some of the first moves in his new role which included the hirings of J.P. Ricciardi and Paul DePodesta. Mike Silva of NY Baseball Digest, wrote the following a couple of days ago, Just two weeks into his tenure Sandy Alderson has proved to be an adept salesman, one that will elevate the Mets into [...]

Alderson Meeting With Oberkfell, Castillo and Beltran

Sandy Alderson is on the move again and is flying to the Dominican Republic today to interview Triple-A Buffalo manager Ken Oberkfell for the vacant managerial position. Oberkfell, is currently managing the defending champions Escogido in the Dominican Winter League. According to SNY, after interviewing Oberkfell Alderson plans to visit second baseman Luis Castillo. Adam Rubin believes that the odds of Castillo being on the Opening Day roster are not great, but that they are certainly better than Oliver Perez’s chances. I believe that niether [...]

Is Moneyball Philosophy A Plan For Wilpons To Cash Out In 2012?

According to Jon Heyman in a post to SI.com, the Mets have what is now thought to be the most expensive front office in payroll. Heyman says that Sandy Alderson is being paid approximately more than twice as much annually than what the Mets paid for Omar Minaya. DePodesta, the Mets’ new VP of player development and scouting, reached an agreement to remain living in San Diego and is thought to be receiving a salary [...]

And The Winner Is… Not Ike Davis!

The voting is complete, the winners have been determined, may I have the envelope please… And the winner of the 2010 Gold Glove award for first base is… <insert sound of envelope being torn open> Albert Pujols! Albert could not be here tonight, but accepting the award on his behalf is the person who got shafted, Ike Davis. “Albert Pujols couldn’t be here tonight, but he asked me not to thank all of you and let you know that [...]

K-Rod Closing In On A Plea Deal

Latest Update form ESPN: Attorneys and prosecutors continue to work on a plea bargain in the case of New York Mets reliever Francisco Rodriguez, who is charged with third-degree assault, second-degree harassment and criminal contempt. Rodriguez would not comment Wednesday morning after appearing briefly in Queens Criminal Court. After the hearing, Judge Elisa Koenderman adjourned the case until Dec. 3, mentioning Rodriguez’s next court appearance as “a possible disposition or trial date.” But Christopher Booth, [...]

So Far, First Impressions Are First Rate

I really like what the Mets have done so far as it shows thoughtfulness and the implementation of a real plan as opposed to the quick-fix mentality. Sandy Alderson was the best available general manager candidate and has not disappointed with the hires of Paul DePodesta and J.P. Ricciardi to the front office. The Mets are laying a strong foundation, one that will carry them beyond the checkbook mentality of free agency. While it is [...]

Matt Garza Is A Better Top Of Rotation Pitcher Than Mike Pelfrey

Whether you see the 2011 Mets as team that is in rebuild mode or one only a few changes away from a playoff contender, one thing remains absolutely certain and that is the need to bolster the rotation with an effective and reliable starting pitcher. With the odds of landing Cliff Lee or Zach Grienke fading fast, and a barren free agent crop this hot stove season, our new GM Sandy Alderson will have to [...]

Alderson Should Bring Hudson To The Mets

As Sandy Alderson continues to hire his buddies and show no urgency in hiring a manager, he needs to consider bringing Orlando Hudson to the New York Mets. Hopefully Alderson will finally cut loose the dead weight  that is Luis Castillo.  The Mets should have signed Hudson in 2009, but instead they let him go to the Dodgers.  Once again the Mets had another chance earlier this year to sign Hudson, but Omar didn’t.  Since things are [...]
