R.A. Dickey And Chris Carter Could Be Close To Joining Mets

After another week of futility for Gary Matthews Jr, Frank Catalanotto and Oliver Perez, it occurs to me that with Memorial Day fast approaching, the time for the Mets to makes some significant changes to the complexion of their roster has arrived. With the Mets’ continuing reluctance to take on additional payroll, they find themselves in the very fortunate (and envious) position of tapping into their minor league system for help that appears to be major [...]

What Would Keith Do… About Oliver Perez?

“We- players, writers, fans- talk about the importance of the little things and getting the breaks and clutch pitching and hitting, but sometimes I wonder whether the truth isn’t more simple. The main difference between the winners and losers? Winning.” Keith Hernandez from his novel If At First… The wisdom of Keith Hernandez whether on the field or today in the broadcast booth, has always been the gift that the Mex keeps on giving. His [...]

The Mets on Mother’s Day Weekend

Yes, I’m a Mother and so this past weekend I got treated rather specially by my sons and their families.     The Mets were good to me two out of three days and that’s a lot better ratio than I’ve been used to the past several seasons. However it was not for a lack of trying – the newer players seem to be made of hustle – have you noticed?   Seen Davis with some of those [...]

5/9 Minor League Report! THOLE, LAGARES, HARRIS!

AAA International League: Buffalo 4/12/1, Indianapolis 5/12/2 RA Dickey had his second rough outing of the season, and so took his 2nd loss, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits. The Bisons offense did their jobs, banging out 12 hits and drawing 4 walks, while going just 3 for 16 (.188) with RISP and leaving a small army, 15 strong, on base. Jason Pridie, Chris Carter, Josh Thole and Ruben Tejada all had [...]

Jason Bay Has Been Solid In Citi Field

Many were worried about Jason bay being able to hit at Citi Field after the Mets signed him. Some said that Citi Field wasn’t his type of park or that he wasn’t the kind of player who could succeed in Citi Field. Just over five weeks into the season, Bay is batting .239 this season with just a .376 slugging percentage. Not exactly what the Mets were hoping for, but it’s still early. However, it seems that [...]

Nationals at Mets Series Preview

You wouldn’t know it by looking at the fan base’s reaction today, but the Mets have started their home stand with a series victory. The Mets are 17-14, and will face the identical 17-14 Nationals this week in a series where one team could be proven a phony, while the other could be proven to have larger issues than we all feared. These are not your lay down and die Nationals. While their pitching doesn’t [...]

Blanco Walk Off Homerun Beats Giants 5-4 In Extras

Mets take two from the Giants with back-to-back walk-off homeruns, this time from Henry Blanco. Mets win 5-4 in 11 innings. Game Notes Johan Santana took the mound today and had a nice bounce back outing after giving up a personal worst ten runs in his last start. Santana went 7.2 innings, the longest any Mets starter has gone all season, beating Pelf’s start yesterday by a third of an inning. Santana let up eight hits, but [...]

Mets Could Have Six Players With 20+ Home Runs This Season

Last season was one of frustration and futility where home runs and the Mets were concerned. A brand new ball park was held to blame for the lack of oomph in the Mets offense and many were convinced that David Wright would never eclipse 15 homers in a season again. If this season has shown us anything in the early going, it’s the fact that many of the concerns over the Mets power outage were [...]

History Repeats Itself… 1988 Style!

The past four years have been very harrowing for all Mets fans; throughout this painful stretch I personally have been feeling a sort of deja vu.  It took me a while to figure out why, but now I know.  The 2006-2010 Mets are reminding me of the 1988-1992 Mets.  Scary isn’t it? The 1988 Mets where dominant, the NL east race was over mid-summer, and they had the perfect mix of grizzled veterans (Keith, Carter, [...]
