Ollie’s Last Stand?

Gas is expensive these days and so would be swallowing the contract of Ollie Perez.  Right now you couldn’t get a tank of unleaded in a trade for the maddening lefty.    Nevertheless, it’s time to remove the tags and push this clunker down the hill.  For everyone’s sanity.  “They Shoot Lefties, Don’t they?” has found it’s leading man-Perez, and the Mets gleefully send him off to his next starring role.   Because he ‘ain’t getting it done [...]

Val Pascucci Back With The Bisons

According to this press release, via NJ.com, the Camden Riversharks announced today that designated hitter, Valentino Pascucci has signed a contract with the New York Mets organization. He will join New York’s AAA team, the Buffalo Bisons, of the International League. “Valentino was a team leader for us. He came in as a former major league payer and worked hard to reprove himself,” Team Manager, Von Hayes said. In the 1999 draft, Valentino was originally [...]

Phillies Caught Cheating, Point Finger at Mets

This won’t be that long of a blog, I swear. Considering right now I’m home early from work and it’s 4-4 in the game, I’m sure most if not anybody reading this is doing so with GameCast on at work or sitting in front of their home television. This is about the Philadelphia Phillies. You know, anybody I know who is a Phillies fan tries to discredit any belief about their fan base or their [...]

5/12 Minor League Report! NIEUWENHUIS, WELCH, CAMPBELL, LAGARES!

Song of the Day: Meatloaf – I Would Do Anything for Love (12 minute version) AAA International League: Buffalo 8/15/0, Louisville 7/9/0 Dillon Gee was pitching very well into the 7th, but then the wheels came off, as he allowed 3 runs on a hit, a walk, and a HBP. John Lujan came in with runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 down, but allowed both IHR to score, along with one of his own [...]

A Day To Remember: My First Visit to Citi Field

Since this will be my first post on Mets Merized Online, I figured it would be only fitting that I share with you my “first” visit to the amazing Citi Field.  I am sure many of you have visited Citi Field numerous times and the luster of it has most likely faded, but I encourage you to read along with me while re-living your own first visit to Citi Field. A Little Background: I have never [...]

These Guys Need To Take A Few More Pitches

It sure is fun to watch games like last night or Friday and Saturday’s finishes against the Giants, or even the way the team battled back on Sunday against Tim Lincecum.  But some of the Mets are striking out at an alarming rate (ahem, David Wright…ahem, Jason Bay).  Even Ike Davis, who has been the spark that fired up the team the past few weeks, has 19 strikeouts in 66 at-bats.  I heard Keith Hernandez [...]

The Ballad of Oliver and John

A few weeks ago, I suggested that the Mets pitching staff’s overperformance could result in a hat-tipping to Dan Warthen, who may be deceivingly quiet. By “deceiving,” I mean he is not a flashy pitching coach, people rarely ever heard of him before he came to the Mets although he does have a bit of a distinguished and respectable career as a pitching coach. His pitching staff is very formidable. Johan Santana is who he [...]

Animal Unleashed, Mets Win 8-6

In a game that was looking like the Nationals would take it, the Mets worked around a bad outing from Jon Niese to stage an 8th inning comeback and win 8-6 Game Notes Jonathon Niese went out today, and was in trouble from the get-go. He would only finish the day going 4 1/3 innings, giving up 6 hits, 5 walks and 3 strikeouts – one of his hits going to Adam Dunn. Niese recovered [...]

Clutch or Not, This Team Can Fight

One of the positive things that I have been seeing from this team in the past few weeks is the way they seem to always fight. At times a hit with a runner on base seems to be too tall of an order and it can be very frustrating for a fan. However, when at the times when the team is backed into a corner they seem to not lay down and die like we [...]

Citi Field Of Dreams, And Nightmares…

In another time, perhaps 50 years from now, the Mets will get the opportunity to tear down Citifield, and build a new stadium for their fans and team. The life cycle of Citifield will have reached it’s end. The Stadium will have hosted multiple championship teams and hosted All Star, playoff, and World Series games. We all will have had our fill of Shake Shack, McFaddens and Blue Smoke. Enough to last a lifetime. Citi [...]
