Mike Pelfrey: Bend But Don’t Break Baby

Last night’s one nothing victory over Atlanta cemented a terrific start to the 2010 campaign for Mets hurler, Mike Pelfrey (4-0); possibly of his career with now 24 consecutive scoreless innings. As the great Joe Morgan pointed out himself during the game, Pelfrey showed strong signs of growth, maturity, poise and skill, throwing five shutout innings in the win. What was most impressive was the new bend but don’t break style Pelf showcased facing Jason [...]

Mets Haven’t Really Played Well Yet…

The Mets to this point in the season, are 1 game over .500. Met nation, no need to adjust your glasses or wipe your screens, the Mets are 1 game over .500. The Mets, haven’t been “firing on all cylinders” as of yet either. What can happen when this team is firing on all cylinders, is what has me excited. Henry Blanco and Rod Barajas have been major upgrades defensively at the catchers position. Both have [...]

Jenrry Mejia To Remain In Bullpen

As the Mets’ bullpen has exceeded expectations in the early part of the season, the need for Jenrry Mejia seems to be diminishing, but Jerry Manuel remains adamant that the 20-year-old will be a bigger part of the pen rather than be pushed out and sent to tune up in the minor leagues for an eventual starting role. According to ProSportsDaily.com Manuel was asked if the emergence of Fernando Nieve in the pen could free up [...]

Mets By The Numbers – Week Three

A new weekly feature that will look at the Mets beyond the box score. The Mets find themselves in the same spot as the crosstown Yankees. Both are in second place in their respective divisions, and both teams are 1.5 games out of first place. In the last ten games, Mets starting pitchers have a combined 1.38 ERA to lead the league. It’s the lowest ERA in a 10-game span since Gooden, Viola, Cone, Darling, Whitehurst in 1991. [...]

Rain Helps Mets Sweep Braves And Move Into Second Place!

Jose Reyes wasted no time using his speed to get the Mets on the board early in this rain soaked 1-0 win that saw the Mets sweep the Braves. It was the fourth straight victory for the Mets and sixth of their last seven. Game Notes Mike Pelfrey started and it was clear right from the start that he didn’t have anything working. He wasn’t sharp, couldn’t locate his pitches and found himself in trough all [...]

Dillon Gee To The Mets Picking Up Steam

Updated Post 4/25 2:00 PM While digging up some information on Gee, I came across some glowing remarks by Bisons manager Ken Oberkfell after his last start. “He was outstanding,” Bisons manager Ken Oberkfell said. “He had control of his pitches. He went after hitters and worked ahead and gave us a solid seven innings on a pretty cold day. … Each outing he’s going a little deeper in the pitch count, a little deeper [...]

.500 Never Looked So Good

If you look at the Mets record, you may think they’ve had a very uneventful season. Afterall, they’ve won 9 games, and they’ve lost 9 games. But in all reality, .500 never looked so good. Any team with a .500 record is going to have its share of positives and negatives. But for the Metsies, the good far outweighs the bad, because a lot of the ifs are falling into place. The Mets starting pitching [...]

Forgotten Man: What To Do With Murphy…

We’ve all enjoyed the remarkable return of a contending Mets team. Make no mistake either, this team is a contender and will contend. It’s amazing what a 23 year old AAA callup will do for a floundering and monumentally boring team…(and some good starting pitching)   Thank you Ike Davis, because, coincidentally, since you were recalled the Mets have been reborn. Jeff Francouer’s pie to the face wasn’t just for Ike, it was a wakeup call to a [...]
