Following an early exit in the fourth inning Thursday night, Mets’ right-hander Tylor Megill has been diagnosed with a shoulder strain. The injury comes a week after the righty had been reactivated from the IL with a biceps tendon injury.

The team plans on re-evaluating Megill in four weeks with the hopes his injury will have healed. In a few corresponding moves, the Mets called up relievers Adonis Medina and Tommy Hunter (!!) and sent Jake Reed down to the minors.

Losing Megill again, with Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer still sidelined for a few more weeks, is a huge blow to the rotation. Chris Bassitt, Carlos Carrasco and Taijuan Walker are going to step back into the top three rotation spots as David Peterson and Trevor Williams will likely round out the rotation. Scherzer is due back by the Fourth of July, and deGrom may arrive a week or two after that.

Megill is 4-2 with a 5.01 ERA this season after a scorching hot April. He’s given up 14 runs over his last eight innings, spanning three starts. After two of the three now, he was placed on the injured list soon after.

Eduardo Escobar Rejoins the Team

Eduardo Escobar rejoined the Mets Friday after leaving the team due to a “non-workplace event” before Thursday’s game.

The New York Post‘s Mike Puma reports Escobar was taken to the hospital yesterday, and teammates described him as “disoriented.” Buck Showalter said Escobar should be back in the lineup on Saturday.

And in other injury news, Travis Jankowski plans to return to the team in “the first week of July,” according to the New York Daily News‘ Deesha Thosar. He’ll have imaging done on his broken hand next week, and if all goes well, he’ll ramp up rehab activities.
