The Mets’ 2023 season may be all but a lost cause, with the trade deadline in the rearview mirror, but they’ve now won four in a row after their 13-2 whomping of the Cardinals on Saturday. Their hot ways have brought them within six games of a Wild Card spot.

They’ll look to stay hot and complete a four-game sweep of St. Louis Sunday at 2:15 p.m. ET.

The Florida Complex League Mets announced on Saturday that with their rain-shortened win, they clinched the No. 1 seed and home field advantage through the FCL playoffs. They will host a one-game semifinal on Thursday. With a win they would reach the league finals for the first time since 2005.

The Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday reinstated shortstop Bo Bichette from the 10-day injured list and designated infielder Paul DeJong for assignment.

Good morning, Mets fans!

Well, maybe not.

After five of the most memorable wins to the 2023 season, and a day off, the Mets looked to continue the magic as they took on the Chicago Cubs in their first game in the Windy City. The Cubs ended the Mets’ winning streak at five games, beating them 7-2.

Pete Alonso powered the Mets’ offense on Tuesday, as he hit his 18th home run of the season, which leads all of Major League Baseball. A solo shot from Alonso and a fielder’s choice gathered him two RBIs on the night.

The Cubs also had their own slugfest against the Mets, who poured on seven runs. Seiya Suzuki and Matt Mervis each hit homers early in the game, but Christopher Morel keeps hitting dingers since his call-up 12 games ago. Morel hit his ninth homer in 12 games in the big leagues to help the Cubs top the Mets.

Tylor Megill started for the Mets and had a shaky start. Only going 3 2/3 innings, Megill struck out five batters while walking two and allowing six runs on six hits. Michael Fulmer, who the Mets traded back in 2015 for Yoenis Cespedes, got to close out the game.

At least the Braves lost.

After an off day Thursday, the Mets kick off yet another west coast series against the Angels tonight. The Angels are officially on a winning streak, having just ended their brutal 14-game losing streak Thursday night. The Mets lost their last two games to the Padres.

The Mets will not, however, have to face their old friend Noah Syndergaard this series. Syndergaard isn’t scheduled to pitch until next Tuesday. Tylor Megill will be taking the mound for New York tonight at Angel Stadium with first pitch set for 9:38 p.m. ET.
