Ronny Mauricio went without a hit after his massive performance the day before, but he will be on his way up to the MLB squad by Thursday. The big swing on the offensive side came from Jackson Cluff, who slugged a home run in the sixth.

Jacob Reimer did have a great day, however, with four hits on the day, including a double. Eli Serrano III drove in the only run on the day for the Rumble Ponies.

Noah Hall started the game for the Cyclones and struggled with his command, walking four batters in three innings of work. His defense did him no favors, either, as he was charged with three runs in total, with two of them earned. Another day with a hit and an RBI for John Bay leaves his OPS at .933 so far this season. Of note, Mitch Voit stole two bases on the day, bringing his total up to four on the year.

Nate Lavender continued getting himself into shape with two innings over a scoreless inning of work, and Elwis Mijares got the win after two scoreless innings in relief of those two. Five different batters drove in runs for St. Lucie, highlighted by a two-hit day for DH Julio Zayas. Tyler McLoughlin shut the door with a scoreless inning for his first save.

No. 10: Mitch Voit, 2B

Player Profile

The New York Mets drafted infielder Mitch Voit out of the University of Michigan in the 2025 MLB Draft. Voit had an explosive final season with Michigan, slashing .346/.471/.668 (1.140 OPS). He walked (40) more than he struck out (34) and drove in 60 runs via 14 homers and 35 extra-base hits. This was an improvement on his 2024 season with Michigan, where he had a .945 OPS and struck out 61 times compared to only 23 walks.

Interestingly, prior to an injury that needed offseason surgery, Voit pitched in 2023 and 2024 for Michigan. He topped out at 93 mph and also featured a slider, curveball, and changeup. He had a 3.25 ERA in 2023 before that figure ballooning to 5.49 in 2024. He is just focusing on hitting going forward.

Voit, the 38th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, made his professional debut in 2025 with Single-A St. Lucie. He struggled at the plate through 85 at-bats, slashing .235/.343/.294 (.628 OPS). He was only able to muster three extra-base hits. Voit did, however, impress on the bases, stealing 20 bags with only one caught stealing. He only had 19 stolen bases across his collegiate career.

It will be a big first full professional season for Voit in 2026. It looks like he will begin the 2026 season with High-A Brooklyn.

Standout Stat

Voit’s 95% stolen base success rate after making his professional debut with Single-A St. Lucie was impressive. As mentioned, he had only 19 stolen bases across his college career and stole 20 in 99 plate appearances in his first taste of professional action.

No. 9: Will Watson, RHP

Player Profile

Will Watson’s final season of collegiate baseball was played with Southern California in the then Pac-12 Conference. Watson’s 3.93 ERA across 50 1/3 innings that season was enough to get him drafted by the New York Mets in the seventh round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Watson had a cup of coffee with Single-A St. Lucie to end that 2024 season, allowing one run with three strikeouts across 2 2/3 innings.

In 2025, his first full professional season, Watson quickly made his way through the ranks of the organization, beginning in St. Lucie (Single-A) and ending the season with Binghamton (Double-A). After 39 1/3 innings with a 3.66 ERA and 43 strikeouts, he was promoted to High-A Brooklyn. With the Cyclones, Watson posted a stellar 1.70 ERA across 63 2/3 innings, striking out 77. He then ended the season in Double-A Binghamton, posting a 3.44 ERA across 18 1/3 innings with 22 strikeouts.

Across those three levels of appearances, Watson primarily served as a starter (28 appearances with 23 starts). Watson began as a relief pitcher at NCAA’s Division III level in 2022 (1.82 ERA across 34 2/3 innings) before slowly transitioning to a starter’s role with USC in 2024.

A key for Watson will be decreasing the walk rate. After issuing 27 walks across 50 1/3 innings with USC in 2024, he lowered it to a 11.6% BB% in 2025. Continually decreasing that figure will be big in his development.

Standout Stat

Among 236 pitchers to throw at least 50 innings in High-A last year, Watson’s 1.70 ERA ranked sixth-lowest.

Elian Peña.

No. 8: Elian Peña, SS

Player Profile

The New York Mets dished out a $5 million bonus to Elian Peña, giving him the largest bonus for a Latin American during the 2025 signing period. In what started out as a very encouraging 2025 season started very poorly as Peña started his professional career 0-for-26, but finished with a bang, hitting .342 to end the year.

Overall, despite the slow start, Pena still posted a .949 OPS and a .421 on-base percentage across 221 total plate appearances for Mets Orange of the Dominican Summer League. He walked just as much as he struck out (36 each) and stole 21 bases (caught stealing four times).

Notably, Peña posted a three-home run game twice in 2025. According to Brendan Samson, “Peña became just the third player since 2005 to tally two three-homer performances in the same season before turning 20 years old, joining Travis Denker (2005) and Joey Gallo (2013).” Additionally, “Peña is the only player to notch two three-homer games in his first season as a professional since such stats started being archived in 2005 — and just the sixth player 18 or younger to record even a single three-homer game over that span.”

Positionally, Baseball America projects Peña to move over to third base at some point due to, “questionable hands and range.” He played second base and shortstop in 2025. Peña will make his stateside debut in 2026.

Standout Stat

Among 304 qualified hitters in the Dominican Summer League last season, Peña’s 149 wRC ranked 12th.

No. 7: Jack Wenninger, RHP

Player Profile

Jack Wenninger began his college career with Murray State in the Ohio Valley before transferring and concluding his career with Illinois in the Big-10 Conference. The New York Mets drafted him in the sixth round of 2023.

Wenninger’s first full professional season was 2024, when he split time between Single-A and High-A, posting a 4.30 ERA across 115 innings. He struck out 140 over that time. Wenninger took a huge leap in 2025, breaking out, as he posted a starling 2.92 ERA across 135 2/3 innings with 147 strikeouts. The analytics backed up his strong season, as he posted a 3.05 xFIP alongside a 2.92 ERA.

Wenninger relies on a mid-90 mph fastball and an elite changeup/splitter to get batters out. He also features a slider and a new-look curveball. Importantly, Wenninger excels at throwing strikes as his 7.6% BB% is well below the minor-league average.

No. 6: Jacob Reimer, 1B/3B

Player Profile

Jacob Reimer hit .265 in his first full professional season in 2023, but lacked power as his .375 slugging percentage showed. Unfortunately, he missed all but 25 games in 2024 due to a hamstring injury. Healthy, Reimer broke out in a big way in 2025.

With High-A Brooklyn, Reimer posted a .887 OPS across 229 at-bats in 2025. He was subsequently promoted and finished the season at the Double-A level, continuing his strong play at the next level with a .843 OPS. Overall, he drove in 77 runs with 17 homers and 32 doubles.

To continue growing, Reimer will need to cut down on his strikeouts. He struck out 112 times across 444 at-bats, 25% of the time, which is on the higher end of the average in the minor leagues. Reimer also committed 16 errors at third base in 2025.

Standout Stat

Reimer’s 77 total RBIs across the High-A and Double-A levels ranked 62nd among 3,620 minor leaguers at any level last season.

We are back! Three up, three down returns for the 2026 New York Mets season.

As we’ve done for several seasons now, we’ll be taking a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly after every series throughout the year.

With Opening Day this Thursday, excitement is very much in the air as we gear up for another year of Mets baseball.

However, before we look too far ahead, let’s take a step back and reflect on spring training and the Grapefruit League schedule.

Let’s kick off the 2026 edition of 3 Up, 3 Down with a camp recap …

3 UP

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED 

At the time of writing, the Mets still haven’t officially announced that Carson Benge has made the Opening Day roster. Why the delay is a good question. However, public announcements aside, it would be a shock at this point if Benge isn’t in the lineup to face the Pirates on Thursday. The prospect entered camp with every chance to make the team, and he did everything asked of him to do exactly that. Benge hit .366/.435/.439/.874 with 15 hits and five RBIs. Furthermore, he showed impressive discipline at the plate, while flashing a plus-plus arm out in the field. All in all, Benge more than looked the part and improved week by week. Even if Mike Tauchman didn’t get hurt, Benge did more than enough to win the right field job.

RESURGENCE LOADING 

The Mets were sunk in 2025 because their starting pitching played party pooper. And Kodai Senga, continuing his downward trend, played a big part in those problems. Therefore, there were a lot of question marks surrounding the righty heading into spring training. And, while you have to take everything that happens in camp with a healthy dose of skepticism, Senga has proven a few doubters wrong over the past few weeks. He was stellar across three Grapefruit League starts, pitching to a 1.86 ERA with 11 strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed over 9.2 innings. Granted, there is still a lot to prove, and Senga needs to both stay healthy and pitch at a high level over the course of a full season. But, still, there was a lot to like, including his pitch arsenal.

If the Mets can get the spring training version of Senga throughout 2026, then the starting pitching should be in great shape.

PITCHING DEPTH

One of the biggest positives to emerge from camp was the pitching depth the Mets now have in the organization. Christian Scott, coming off Tommy John surgery, showed flashes of his upside. He could certainly contribute in the big leagues at some point in 2026. Jack Wenninger pitched to a 2.70 ERA while striking out 10 over 6.2 innings. Will Watson and Jonathan Santucci also pitched well. All showed a lot of upside, and Scott and Wenninger in particular are names to watch in 2026. All of a sudden, the pitching depth looks incredibly strong, and that’s something to be uber-positive about.

3 DOWN

TRENDING DOWNWARDS

Are we in full-blown panic mode over Sean Manaea yet? After regressing in 2025, this year’s camp was an important one for the starter. However, rather than settle any lingering concerns, Manaea instead added fuel to the fire thanks to his diminishing velocity. There were some other concerning metrics, too, while he was out-pitched by everyone else in the rotation. As a result, the 34-year-old will now start the season out of the bullpen and in a piggyback role. Of course, Manaea was still working his way back this spring. He had loose bodies in his elbow, which likely impacted a few things. There is also still time to correct the worrying drop in velocity. If he can do that, then that will only further strengthen the rotation. However, if Manaea can’t correct the drop in velocity, and if it continues to diminish, then another conversation may be needed at some point.

LATE INJURY BLOW

Arguably, the biggest roster battle in camp from day one was the fight for the right field job. There was a slew of players all competing for that one spot, with Carson Benge and Mike Tauchman emerging as the leaders in the clubhouse. Before the weekend, it looked all but certain that Tauchman would be on the Opening Day roster in some capacity.

However, the veteran left Saturday’s game with left knee soreness and will now require surgery on a torn meniscus. That’s somewhat of a blow for the Mets, given the value Tauchman brought to the table. He could have been a mentor for Benge, while he showed all spring what he can do at the plate. Furthermore, Tauchman offers more offensive upside than Vidal Brujan, who could now make the Opening Day roster. We will see if Tauchman can win a roster spot once he returns from injury.

END OF THE ROAD?

It doesn’t seem like a stretch to suggest that things really aren’t looking good for Mark Vientos. The third baseman struggled offensively in 2025, and those struggles carried over to camp. He hit just .057/.108/.171/.280 with little to no production. It is also perhaps fair to question Vientos’ decision to play in the World Baseball Classic. After all, he’s been asked to take reps at first base for the Mets, yet he mostly played third for Team Nicaragua in the WBC. Given the uncertainty surrounding first base, it would have been preferable for Vientos to remain in camp and really dedicate himself to learning a new position. In any case, none of that may end up mattering. If a disappointing spring translates to a slow start, then maybe there won’t be much of a role for Vientos in Queens going forward.

We’re talking about true breakouts, too. Carson Benge was great, but he was a first-round pick. Jonathan Santucci was great, but he was a second-round pick. Jacob Reimer was great, but he’s been a Top 15 prospect in the system before.

Here, we’re looking for players who, at best, snuck their way onto Top 30 lists, and in most cases hadn’t once appeared on one before this season.

AJ Ewing Credit: Binghamton Rumble Ponies

A.J. Ewing

A.J. Ewing is the only hitter on this list, not because the Mets had a bad offensive season in the minor leagues—they had a good one—but because most of the hitters to have strong seasons were already at least somewhat known. A.J. Ewing was easily the hitter who exceeded expectations the most.

He started 2025 in Single-A, quickly earned a promotion to High-A, survived the curse of being a left-handed hitter on Coney Island, and finished his year in Double-A. He hit at every level, and finished the year with an overall slash line of .315/.401/.429/.830 over 124 games. He even hit .339 with an .801 OPS in 28 Double-A games after being promoted there one day after turning 21.

He’s not a power threat at this point and likely won’t ever be a big one, but he could eventually grow into enough pop to hit 15-ish home runs a year. He has an aesthetically pleasing left-handed swing, is very fast (stole 70 bases in 2025), and made real strides as a center fielder. The Mets have also given him some reps at second base—not a ton but enough to feel confident in him playing the position if needed. He likely won’t be a factor in 2026, but 2027 is very much on the table. At the very least, a utility player with his speed who can play both the infield and outfield is a nice piece to have.

Jack Wenninger

The Mets’ pitching development in 2025 was a sight to behold, and of the arms to not crack the big leagues yet, Jack Wenninger might have been the best. A sixth-round pick in 2023, his first full season in 2024 was so-so. He struck out a ton of batters, but still finished with an ERA over four. In 2025, he fully blossomed into a legitimate starting pitching prospect who, in another organization, might be the best in the system.

In 135 2/3 innings, Wenninger posted a 2.92 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 147 strikeouts and 42 walks. He missed bats, limited free passes, and overall just pitched really well. While his fastball is good (and got faster in 2025), it’s not a standout pitch; his splitter is his best offering. It’s a wicked split, and the star of a well-rounded arsenal that also includes a sinker, slider and curveball. After spending all of 2025 in Double-A, he’s a real big league option for 2026. If anything, if he pitches well in Triple-A, it’s more likely than not that Wenninger makes big league starts for the Mets next season.

Will Watson

Will Watson started his college career in Division III. He then went to a JUCO. Then to the prestigious University of Southern California after turning down his hometown Seattle Mariners after being drafted by them in the 20th round. Then, a year later, he was a seventh-round pick by the Mets.

In his first full minor league season, he threw 121 1/3 innings with a minuscule 2.60 ERA, reaching Double-A after starting the year in Single-A. He walked more than ideal, but struck out a ton as well. The stuff—a high-powered, high-IVB fastball, cutter, slider and nasty changeup—is legit. He’s already broken out, and is talented enough that a second “breakout” into true national relevance is more than on the table in 2026.

There was no shortage of pitching breakouts for the Mets in 2025, and that includes 2024 13th-round pick R.J. Gordon. In his first taste of professional baseball, Gordon casually threw 128 2/3 innings with a 3.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 147 strikeouts and 46 walks. He’s not the most overpowering of the Mets pitching prospects, but the results were electric. He was great in High-A to start the year, earned a promotion, and continued pitching well in Double-A. The fact that the Mets turned a 13th-round pick into a very real starting pitching prospect speaks volumes about their pitching development and how far it’s come in just two seasons under David Stearns.

Brendan Girton

For my money, there was no Mets minor league pitcher who blew past expectations in 2025 more than Brendan Girton. After posting an era over seven in his final college season, Girton completely re-tooled his arsenal, going from leaning heavily on his four-seam fastball to adding a sinker, splitter and slider. In his first full professional season, the 2024 10th round pick threw 87 innings with a 3.10 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 101 strikeouts and 40 walks. He’s far from a finished product, but the stuff is real, and the strides he made in 2025 while actively developing multiple new pitches are opening.

It was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading leads in the middle innings, but the Rumble Ponies ultimately prevailed to force a decisive Game 3 on Wednesday.

Jacob Reimer, just as he had been throughout the regular season, led the way for Binghamton with two hits—including a double—and three RBIs. His two-run single in the seventh provided key insurance after the Ponies regained the lead, cushioning them against Erie’s quick two-run response in the bottom half.

The SeaWolves jumped on Watson early, putting six runners on base in just over two innings while forcing him to throw 54 pitches. With trouble looming in the third, Watson handed the ball to Felipe De La Cruz, who limited the damage by allowing only one inherited runner to score. De La Cruz later surrendered a solo homer in the sixth, but otherwise delivered a steady middle-relief outing for the Rumble Ponies.

Ben Simon shut the door in the ninth, retiring the top of Erie’s order, including this fly ball to left fielder Nick Morabito that helped seal the win:

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets split their six-game set against the Worcester Red Sox last week. It was a pretty low-scoring series, with the Mets being outscored 25-19. Syracuse is now 42-27 in the second half and 73-71 overall with one series left in the regular season. They’d need to pick up three games on the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders in the next week to get into the Triple-A playoffs. If they do, all four of the Mets’ top affiliates will have made the playoffs in their respective leagues.

Jett Williams showed off his power and his elite eye in the Mets’ latest series. He went just 4-for-22, but two of his hits left the yard, and he also recorded four walks. Williams has struggled since being promoted to Syracuse, owning just a .665 OPS.

Ryan Clifford also hit a home run, extending his Mets organizational lead. He went 3-for-18 and also added a double, while walking six times and striking out just five times. Clifford now owns a .762 OPS since joining Syracuse.

Jared Young continued his excellent year for the Triple-A squad. In the latest series, he went 4-for-14 with a home run, three walks, and two stolen bases. In 70 games, he owns a fabulous .961 OPS.

In his first start since being sent down to Triple-A to figure things out, Kodai Senga looked comfortable with a six-inning, one-run start. Senga allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out eight. He figures to make at least one more start in Syracuse before re-joining the major league team.

Other notable pitching performances in this series included Oliver Ortega (4 IP, 0 ER, 3 K), Alex Carrillo (3.1 IP, 0 ER, 5 K), and Austin Warren (3 IP, 0 ER, 4 K).

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies finished up their regular season by winning five of six games against the Portland Sea Dogs. Their only loss was an 8-7 defeat. Binghamton ends the regular season with a 45-24 second-half record and a 90-46 overall record. They face the Somerset Patriots in a best-of-three division series beginning Tuesday.

Despite the big series win, the offensive results were not there. Omar De Los Santos had the best series for a position player on the team, going 6-for-20 with a triple, a home run, a walk, and three stolen bases. He drove in four runs and scored four runs, while improving his OPS with Binghamton to .620.

Nick Morabito looked solid, going 5-for-19 with five walks and four stolen bases. He drove in four runs and scored a run of his own. His OPS now sits at .733.

While the offense wasn’t very prominent for Binghamton, the pitching was. Will Watson was the headliner, as he shone in two brilliant outings (one start). Watson combined to throw 9 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out 14 batters. Watson has now made four appearances with Binghamton and owns a 3.44 ERA.

Jack Wenninger was also fantastic, going eight innings in his start and allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits, no walks, and two strikeouts. Wenninger owns a 2.92 ERA through 26 starts this year.

Jonathan Santucci also looked great once again, as he tossed five shutout innings. He allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out seven. Santucci owns a 2.52 ERA in 10 starts with the Rumble Ponies.

High-A

The St. Lucie Mets’ season finished this past week with a loss to the Daytona Tortugas in the Division Series. The Mets captured the first game 4-2 and needed just one more win, but the Tortugas won each of the next two games to move on.

Players of the Week

Offense – Yonatan Henriquez, UTIL Brooklyn

Yonatan Henriquez has had one of the more drastic turnarounds within a season we’ve seen in some time. Through July 4, having played 62 games, he had a measly .623 OPS, all with Low-A St. Lucie. From July 5 on, however, he’s played in 72 games (the last few weeks in High-A) and has recorded an .863 OPS. In the last three postseason games, he has six RBIs and a 1.125 OPS, propelling Brooklyn to within one win of a league championship.

Pitching – Will Watson, P Binghamton

Will Watson has been overshadowed by so many of the Mets’ other highly touted pitching prospects, but he has been among the best of the bunch. Having started the year in Low-A, he is now in Double-A and still thriving. He’s made 28 appearances (23 starts) over the course of the year and has a 2.60 ERA. His best stretch was with High-A Brooklyn, where he had a 1.70 ERA in 14 appearances.

The rollercoaster that is 2025 continued for Justin Hagenman. After last appearing for the Mets in early September, the righty returned to Syracuse and put up solid numbers. He fared better than his two previous MLB appearances, where he gave up a combined five runs and eight hits in just over four innings of work.

There wasn’t much offense for the Rumble Ponies, who struck out 10 times, but Reimer grounded into a double play to drive in the sole run of the game. Binghamton took all but one game of their series with Portland, with each game decided by one run. Nick Morabito swiped his 49th base of the season, leading the team, good for second-best in the Eastern League behind Phillies top prospect Aidan Miller (52).

Watson followed his previous scoreless outing with another one. He struggled since being promoted to Double-A (7.27 ERA) through his first two starts, but has settled in, not allowing a run since those first two outings. In four outings with Binghamton, batters are hitting .200 against Watson after hitting just .199 against him in Brooklyn.

The Cyclones’ offense went off in Game 1 of the Championship Series, combing for 16 hits and 11 walks. Amazingly, only two of the 16 hits went for extra-bases, but small ball put the game to rest. While the team left 14 runners on base, they were 7-for-21 with runners in scoring position. Vargas finished September on a low (2-for-17 on the month) but came out of the gates hot.

Besides Hall’s one earned run allowed, the bullpen was stellar. Walks were an issue (they allowed seven while striking out eight), however, they were able to work around trouble. Brooklyn did issue the fifth-most walks (537) during the season in the South Atlantic League. While Hall ended the regular season on a down (12 earned runs in his last four games), he looked sharper in Game 1. Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday September 16.

Both the Florida Complex League Mets and Dominican Summer League Mets only played a handful of games in August, so there’s not enough of a sample size to really name players of the month. However, the end-of-the-season top international free agent signee Elian Peña had needs to be acknowledged. From June 21 on, Peña hit .363/.482/.652/1.134 with eight home runs, 22 total extra-base hits, and more walks than strikeouts. In the small sample size in August, he hit over .400 with an OPS just a tick under 1.300. He’s on a fast track to prospect stardom. Keep an eye on catcher Josmir Reyes, too, who hit .310 with a 1.043 OPS in his final 19 games with 17 walks to just nine strikeouts.

TRIPLE-A: SYRACUSE METS

Hitter of the Month: Jared Young

Stats: 26 G, .362/.429/.660/1.089, 6 HR, 2 3B, 6 2B, 13 RBI, 18 R, 10 BB, 18 SO

In the month that saw Carson Benge, Jett Williams and Ryan Clifford promoted to Triple-A, it was former big leaguer Jared Young who set the pace in August. Young mashed, racking up six home runs, 14 extra-base hits, and a one-dot OPS. He’s powered Syracuse through what is a tight playoff race. With Jesse Winker‘s season likely over, Young should get an opportunity to stick with the big league club the rest of the year.

Pitcher of the Month: Jonah Tong

Stats: 2 G (2 GS), 11.2 IP, 8 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 17 SO, 0.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP

We’re going to give this one to Jonah Tong. Most of Syracuse’s pitchers who had a full-month sample size didn’t have much success, and while Brandon Sproat was tempting based on his most recent start, giving pitcher of the month to someone with a 4.85 ERA doesn’t feel right. So, it goes to Tong. In his only two Triple-A appearances, Tong was about as good as one can get. Two shutouts, a ton of strikeouts, very few walks — just absurd.

DOUBLE-A: BINGHAMTON RUMBLE PONIES

Hitter of the Month: Jacob Reimer

Stats: 24 G, .345/.434/.643/1.077, 5 HR, 1 3B, 8 2B, 19 RBI, 18 R, 12 BB, 17 SO

Jacob Reimer is blossoming into a full-fledged top-100 prospect. He’s not there yet, but there are few infielders in the minor leagues who have as much helium as Reimer. A fourth-round pick in 2024, Reimer has been in the system for a while, and he’s put it all together in 2025. If he can stick at third — which is still a question — he will be one of the top prospects at the hot corner in baseball next season. If he ends up at first base, his prospect value will take a bit of a hit, but his bat might even be good enough to make the move.

Pitcher of the Month: R.J. Gordon

Stats: 6 G (6 GS), 34.2 IP, 24 H, 8 ER, 9 BB, 42 S), 2.08 ERA, 0.95 WHIP

Aaaaaand it’s Jonah Tong again — just kidding. He had a case, though with 10 innings of one-run ball and a 16-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. But no, it’s not Tong. The pitching staff is loaded with worthy candidates like Jack Wenninger and Jonathan Santucci, but R.J. Gordon takes the cake here. The 23-year-old has taken off in 2025, just one year removed from being a 14th-round pick. Gordon threw up a 3.06 ERA in 15 games in High-A, and then followed that with a 3.00 ERA in nine games in Double-A. He’s the latest to emerge from a group of pitching prospects that has pitched itself into being the best system in baseball.

HIGH-A: BROOKLYN CYCLONES

Hitter of the Month: Colin Houck

Stats: 32 games, .267/.360/.413/.773, 2 HR, 1 3B, 3 2B, 8 RBI, 10 R, 11 BB, 32 SO

Former first-round pick Colin Houck has had a difficult pro career since joining the Mets organization, but he’s turned a bit of a corner in 2025. He put up an .812 OPS in 62 games, repeating Single-A, but then struggled when promoted to High-A. August was a step forward. There are still issues — like his well over 30% strikeout rate — but it’s a positive month for the former high draft pick who needed one badly.

Pitcher of the Month: Will Watson

Stats: 4 G (4 GS), 18.1 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 9 BB, 23 SO, 0.98 ERA, 0.98 WHIP

Another true breakout pitcher in 2025, Will Watson, diced up High-A hitters in the two months he was at the level. In 63 and 2/3 innings for Brooklyn, Watson posted a 1.70 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 77 strikeouts. His final four games in August were the capper, earning him a promotion to Double-A with a week to go in the month. His Double-A debut? 4 and 1/3 innings, one earned run. Mets fans by now are well aware of Tong, Sproat, and, of course, Nolan McLean, but the next wave of pitching prospects is still full of talent.

SINGLE-A: ST. LUCIE METS

Hitter of the Month: John Bay

Stats: 15 G, .347/.459/.633/1.092, 3 HR, 1 3B, 3 2B, 6 BB, 18 SO

John Bay is a really cool story. Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Austin Peay State University, Bay was sent right to St. Lucie and instantly started mashing. Bay was one of the best hitters in the ASUN as a redshirt senior in 2025, got his opportunity with the Mets, and has made the most of it. He’s even already been promoted to High-A Brooklyn and will be an important part of their upcoming playoff lineup.

Pitcher of the Month: Jonathan Jimenez 

Stats: 5 G (4 GS), 17.1 IP, 15 H, 3 ER, 9 BB, 16 SO, 1.56 ERA, 1.38 WHIP

Jonathan Jimenez, a 21-year-old righty, had a really good month for St. Lucie. He had a good 12 starts in the Florida Complex League to begin his year, and was promoted to Single-A when the Complex League Season ended in late July. He walked a bit of a tightrope in August, but ultimately succeeded in what matters: keeping runs off the board.
