Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets lost their third straight series this past week, dropping four of six games against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. It’s been a first half of the season to forget for Syracuse, who is 31-44 and seventh out of 10 teams in the International League East division.

Luke Ritter had a fantastic week at the plate, tying for the team lead with six hits. Ritter recorded two doubles and a home run, two RBIs, and three runs. Despite owning a .730 OPS for the season, Ritter has swung to an .879 OPS over his last 29 games.

Gilberto Celestino and Yonny Hernández also looked good, demonstrating strong plate discipline. Celestino went 5-for-14 while Hernández went 6-for-12, and each drew five walks while striking out just twice. Celestino has batted to a .758 OPS this year, and Hernández has an .807 OPS with Syracuse despite a poor start to the year in Binghamton.

Sean Manaea had a strong rehab appearance for Syracuse, allowing a run over 5 1/3 innings. He allowed just two hits, no walks, and struck out seven. Manaea has looked bumpy in two of his rehab appearances but great in the other two, and he’ll undoubtedly be a giant piece of the Mets’ rotation down the stretch.

Brandon Waddell made two appearances including one start against Jacksonville. In his first appearance of the week, Waddell allowed one run and struck out five over 2 2/3 innings. In his start, Waddell tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out four. Waddell has been solid whenever pitching for Syracuse, owning a 3.27 ERA in 11 appearances.

Nolan McLean continued his Triple-A success with a start of two runs over five innings with six strikeouts. Over eight appearances and six starts since joining Syracuse, McLean has a 2.68 ERA. Overall, his ERA is a stellar 2.19.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies split their six-game series with the Harrisburg Senators in a very even series that saw them score 28 runs and give up 29. The Rumble Ponies hold a 10-game lead in the Eastern League Northeast division at 45-22.

Nick Morabito had a stellar week as he continues to improve upon his rough start to the year. Morabito went 10-for-23 with three doubles, seven RBIs, three walks, five stolen bases, and five runs scored. Morabito has recorded a .928 OPS in his last 36 games to bring his season OPS up to .804.

Jett Williams also had a good week, despite cooling down a bit. He still went 7-for-22 with two doubles, six walks, and three stolen bases. He also led the team with seven runs scored. Williams’ OPS for the year is now .921.

Kevin Parada had another solid series, going 6-for-19 with a double and two RBIs. He dealt with some strikeouts though, tallying 11 over his five games played. Still, Parada improved his OPS which now sits at .717.

Jonah Tong put together a routine start of 7 2/3 innings, no runs allowed, and 11 strikeouts against the Senators. And yes, that kind of start has been routine for Tong this year. He allowed just two hits and a walk and lowered his ERA on the year to 1.75. Tong continues to prove himself as not only one of the best pitchers in the Mets’ system, but in all of the minor leagues.

Jack Wenninger made a good start, allowing a run over five innings while striking out eight. The 2023 sixth-round pick is having a breakout season with a 2.85 ERA.

Douglas Orellana and Cameron Foster, a couple of relievers having elite seasons with Binghamton, continued their success with 2 1/3 scoreless innings each in this previous series. Orellana made two appearances, allowing one hit and striking out five. Foster threw his scoreless innings in just one outing, and it was perfect as he did not allow a baserunner and struck out four batters. Orellana has a 1.93 ERA in 21 appearances, while Foster has a 1.53 ERA in 13 appearances with Binghamton.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones had a fantastic week against the Aberdeen IronBirds, winning five of six games. The series was lopsided, with Brooklyn outscoring Aberdeen 33-16.

Chris Suero was Brooklyn’s clear best player of the series, going 9-for-19 with a double, a triple, two home runs, eight RBIs, two walks, and a stolen base. Suero also tied for the team lead with five runs scored. Suero has mostly cooled down after a rollicking first few weeks of the season, but he has his OPS back up to .858. Suero was named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week.

Carson Benge and Eli Serrano, a pair of top draft picks in 2024, also had great weeks. Benge went 6-for-21 with a triple, five walks to just one strikeout, and three stolen bases. Serrano went 7-for-17 with two doubles and an RBI, and he tied Suero with five runs scored. Benge owns a .897 OPS while Serrano owns an even .800 OPS.

Noah Hall twirled a gem, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings while striking out eight. Hall walked six batters, a concerning number over seven innings, but he didn’t allow any of his baserunners to score. Hall has been excellent this year, owning a 2.27 ERA in 14 games.

Jonathan Santucci made two starts and pitched excellently in each one. He threw a total of 10 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks, and 11 strikeouts. Santucci has completely turned his season around, owning a 1.03 ERA over his last seven games after recording an 8.14 ERA over his first six. Overall, his ERA sits at 3.70.

Nate Dohm also shined, striking out eight over four scoreless innings. Selected one round after Santucci in last year’s draft, Dohm owns a 2.50 ERA in 13 starts, including a 1.64 ERA in six starts with Brooklyn.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets split their six-game series with the Palm Beach Cardinals. After dropping the first three games of the series, the Mets salvaged a disaster by rebounding to win the next three. The Mets remain in first place in the Florida State League East division at 37-31.

Colin Houck had another really good week on his way to earning his promotion to High-A Brooklyn. Houck went 6-for-20 with three doubles, five walks, two stolen bases, and six runs. He ends his time in St. Lucie with an .812 OPS, including an .890 OPS over his last 40 games.

Yonatan Henriquez also had a good series, going 6-for-19 with a double, a home run, a stolen base, and four runs. Henriquez has mostly struggled this year to the tune of a .655 OPS.

Wellington Aracena had a phenomenal start, striking out eight over five hitless innings. His only baserunners allowed were on two walks. Aracena has shined for St. Lucie’s pitching staff this year as he owns a 2.87 ERA in 13 games. He was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week.

Franklin Gomez finished out the game that Aracena started with three hitless innings of his own, striking out four, with a hit batter being his lone blemish. Gomez has recorded a 2.83 ERA in nine games this year.

Brooks Raley made two rehab appearances and looked solid in both of them. Raley tossed two innings, allowing two hits, no walks, and striking out four. Raley has not pitched in the big leagues this year after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2024, but he’s looking to re-join the Mets as their top lefty option out of the bullpen.

FCL Mets

The FCL Mets went 3-4 this past week to move to 13-21 on the year. They remain in last place in the Florida Complex League East division, 2.5 games behind the fourth-place team.

Randy Guzman had a great week to continue his impressive start to the year, going 5-for-16 with two doubles, a home run, four RBIs, and three walks. The 20-year-old, who signed with the Mets in 2022, owns an .838 OPS in 30 games.

Jace Hampson made two impressive starts, allowing one earned run over eight innings while striking out nine. The 18th-round pick from a year ago has a 2.52 ERA in eight appearances with the FCL Mets.

DSL Mets

The DSL Mets Orange went 3-2 this past week to move their record to 10-5. Meanwhile, the DSL Mets Blue also went 3-2 and improved their record to 5-10.

All eyes are on Elian Peña, who appears to be settling in after having a long hitless stretch to begin his professional career. He didn’t have a fantastic week, but he went 4-for-16 with two doubles, five walks, and two stolen bases. Despite hitting a home run in a game two weeks ago, it is not yet attributed to his stats due to that game being suspended and continued at a later date. As of now, he has a .432 OPS through 15 games.

Players of the Week

Offense – Chris Suero, C/1B/LF Brooklyn

Chris Suero got off to such a hot start to begin the year, recording a 1.334 OPS in his first 10 games and a .936 OPS in his first 23 games. He then had a stretch of 30 games prior to this previous series where he had a .679 OPS, cooling down a bit but he appears to have heated up again. Suero recorded just a .703 OPS in Brooklyn and a .730 OPS overall a year ago, so the improvement has been drastic.

Pitching – Jonah Tong, P Binghamton

Jonah Tong is at a point where it’s a surprise if he doesn’t completely dominate his opponent. It’s become a weekly occurrence to see him put up double-digit strikeouts with few baserunners or runs allowed. The righty has made it look extremely easy in Binghamton, and it’s possible a promotion to Syracuse is not too far away.

Drew Gilbert was phenomenal in the final series of the year, going 7-for-23 with two doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs, and five walks with just three strikeouts. Gilbert’s injury-plagued season ends with him possessing a .706 OPS, though he had an .821 OPS in his final 19 games.

Jett Williams was equally as solid, going 8-for-22 with four doubles and eight walks. He slashed .364/.533/.546/1.079 and scored 10 runs on the week! Like Gilbert, he had a great end to an injury-plagued season. We may see Williams—and possibly Gilbert—in the Arizona Fall League to make up some at-bats.

In non-prospect offensive news, José Azocar was fantastic, going 9-for-21 with two doubles, two homers, eight RBIs, a walk, and four stolen bases. Azocar had a brief but effective stint with Syracuse down the stretch, earning a .911 OPS.

Yolmer Sánchez went 5-for-17 with a triple, a home run, five walks, and a stolen base against the Knights. The veteran ends his year with a .739 OPS in 111 games with Syracuse.

Blade Tidwell had a phenomenal outing to finish off his year, striking out 10 and allowing two runs in six innings. Tidwell struggled in Triple-A to the tune of a 5.93 ERA in 19 appearances, but he ends the year on a very positive note.

The same can be said for Dom Hamel, who allowed two runs in five innings while striking out four. It was a relatively good start for Hamel, who ends the year with a forgettable 6.79 ERA.

Kodai Senga made a notable rehab appearance, tossing one scoreless inning. It was expected to be his last outing before rejoining the major league team, but he experienced triceps tightness and still does not feel 100 percent. It’s possible he could join the Mets if they make the postseason but hopes that he could join the team in the regular season are now over.

Out of the bullpen, Kyle Crick shined with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts. Crick looked phenomenal down the stretch as he tried to come back from injury, earning a 1.74 ERA in 10 appearances across three affiliates.

Wilkin Ramos and Eric Orze both looked great, each tossing 3 2/3 innings and allowing one run. Ramos struggled in Triple-A with a 5.40 ERA in 18 appearances, but he had a 1.65 ERA in 23 appearances with Double-A. Orze, meanwhile, looked comfortable all year in Syracuse with a 2.92 ERA.

Players of the Week

Offense – Drew Gilbert, OF Syracuse

Gilbert had a fantastic end to his season, leading the Mets with 11 RBIs in the six-game series. His 2024 season was mostly a lost one, but he showed some flashes down the stretch, especially with the long ball. He could be in line to join the Mets in 2025, even if he does start the year in Triple-A.

Pitching – Blade Tidwell, P Syracuse

Like Gilbert, Blade Tidwell also had a positive end to his season. In his last two starts, he allowed two runs and struck out 14 in 11 innings, including his final outing where he struck out 10 and allowed two runs in six innings. Tidwell joined Syracuse midway through the year after a stellar start with Binghamton, and though he struggled, he could also be an option to join the Mets at some point in 2025.

Syracuse is now the lone affiliate whose season is still ongoing, and they have just one week remaining. It’s been a struggle for the Mets, who lost their most recent series and now own the worst record in the International League East over the second half of the season.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets lost their penultimate series of the season, dropping five of seven games to the Worcester Red Sox. Syracuse’s two wins, however, were utterly dominant as they won 11-0 on Friday before topping that with a 19-3 victory Saturday. With six games remaining, the Syracuse Mets are 28-41 in the second half and 74-69 overall.

José Azocar led the Mets with seven hits in the seven-game series, going 7-for-23—all singles. Still, he scored five runs and drove in three while walking once and stealing two bases. In his brief tenure with Syracuse, Azocar owns a .300 batting average but a .677 OPS. In total, he has a .721 OPS in Triple-A this year.

Yolmer Sánchez followed Azocar with six hits, going 6-for-20 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run. Sánchez also scored five runs, drove in six, walked three times, and stole a base. Sánchez owns a .720 OPS in 106 games for Syracuse this year.

Carlos Cortes did not hit much, going 4-for-23 in the series, but two of his hits were home runs which led the team. Cortes now has an .806 OPS on the year, and he has been red hot lately. Six of his 15 total home runs have come in the last 14 games, and he owns a .930 OPS in that time span.

Blade Tidwell pitched well in the final game, going five scoreless innings, but not before he allowed six runs in four innings earlier in the series. That gave him a 6.00 ERA for the week, which actually lowered his Triple-A ERA to 6.15.

Dom Hamel also had an outing of five scoreless innings, striking out four in the effort. Hamel has actually been worse than Tidwell this year, still owning an abysmal 6.92 ERA.

Jonathan Pintaro shined in his Triple-A debut, throwing four scoreless innings and striking out six. Between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A this year, Pintaro owns a 2.68 ERA in 17 appearances.

Eric Orze, Max Kranick, and Matt Gage each tossed three scoreless innings, with Orze striking out seven and looking the most impressive out of the group. Orze now possesses a 2.95 Triple-A ERA, while Kranick owns a 3.60 ERA and Gage owns a 3.86 ERA in Syracuse.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies finished their season with a series win over the Portland Sea Dogs, taking four of the six games in the series. That means Binghamton ends the year with a 34-35 second-half record, finishing 69-67 overall. The team did not make the postseason after contending for the Eastern League championship a year ago.

Ryan Clifford had a phenomenal week to end his season, going 7-for-23 with five walks, three doubles, two homers, and eight RBIs. It’s been an up-and-down year for Clifford, but he’s been mostly magnificent since his promotion to Binghamton. He ends the year with 18 home runs, 58 RBIs, and an .815 OPS in 98 games with the Rumble Ponies.

Kevin Parada also had a great final week of what was an otherwise disappointing season. The former first-rounder went 6-for-18 with a team-leading three home runs for the week. Parada ends the year with a .663 OPS, but an .837 OPS in his final 12 games.

Jeremiah Jackson finished his year with a solid series, going 7-for-23 with two doubles and a home run. Despite ending the year with a team-leading 19 home runs and 61 RBIs, Jackson was not a very strong hitter, owning a .618 OPS with 123 strikeouts to 23 walks.

Nolan McLean was fantastic in his final start of the year on his way to earning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors. He tossed six scoreless innings and struck out six in his effort, lowering his Double-A ERA to 4.19. McLean looked increasingly better as the season went on, earning a 2.35 ERA in his final six starts.

Luis Moreno also looked great, too, tossing eight innings across two starts and giving up just one unearned run. Moreno struck out seven and lowered his season ERA to 4.27.

Jordany Ventura, TJ Shook, and Joshua Cornielly all shined out of the bullpen. Ventura tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings while Shook and Cornielly both threw three scoreless innings. Shook’s outings were especially impressive, as he allowed just one hit and struck out six. Ventura finishes the season with a 0.00 ERA in five Binghamton appearances and a 2.96 ERA overall. Shook finishes 2024 with a 3.92 ERA and Cornielly with a 1.13 ERA as Rumble Ponies.

Players of the Week

Offense – Ryan Clifford, 1B/OF Binghamton

As soon as Ryan Clifford was promoted to the Binghamton Mets, he automatically became the best offensive player on the team. Clifford’s eye discipline and power will be the reason he becomes a major leaguer sooner than later, and he demonstrated both of those abilities with ease this past week. Still just 21 years old, the sky is the limit for Clifford in 2025.

Pitching – Nolan McLean, P Binghamton

Nolan McLean has taken massive strides since he started to focus solely on pitching. He struggled earlier in the year when he was first promoted, but McLean ends the season on the highest of notes with six scoreless innings. McLean is 23 years old and should figure to be an important pitching prospect for the Mets in 2025.

The season continues for Syracuse and Binghamton, who both lost their series this past week. Binghamton’s series loss was at no fault of Jonah Tong, who didn’t allow a hit or a walk in six innings in his Double-A debut.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets’ second-half freefall continued in their series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, as they dropped five of six games including an unbelievable 19-0 loss on Saturday. In the six games, Syracuse allowed 60 runs for an average of 10 allowed per game while scoring 32 runs of their own. The Mets are now 26-36 in the second half of the season and 72-64 overall.

Despite getting embarrassed in this series, Syracuse still had some positive individual performances at the plate. Luke Ritter was phenomenal, going 8-for-21 with two doubles, a home run, five walks, and a stolen base. Ritter’s home run was his 26th of the year, and he also extended his International League RBI lead by recording four to give him 88 on the year. His OPS as the season comes to an end sits at .881.

Carlos Cortes led the team with three home runs in the series, with four of his seven hits going for extra bases. Cortes also stole a base and drove in four runs, while also leading the team with five runs scored. The 27-year-old owns an .814 OPS on the season.

JT Schwartz recorded four hits in the series including a double and a home run. He also walked three times and stole a base in what was one of his better weeks in Syracuse. The first baseman owns a .637 OPS with the Mets and a .766 OPS on the entire season between Binghamton and Syracuse.

Many of Syracuse’s regular starters struggled mightily in this series, with the one positive start coming from Paul Blackburn on a rehab assignment. He tossed 6.2 innings of one-run ball, striking out six in the process. It was expected to be Blackburn’s first and only rehab start before getting called back up to the majors, but he did not make his expected start in Toronto on Monday night.

The other starts of the week, all of which were not good whatsoever, came from Dom Hamel (4.1 IP, 9 ER), Mike Vasil (3.1 IP, 7 ER), Brandon Sproat (4 IP, 5 ER), Joander Suarez (5 IP, 8 ER), and Blade Tidwell (1.2 IP, 7 ER).

Shintaro Fujinami shined out of the bullpen, striking out four in 3 2/3 perfect innings. Fujinami, who was so wild and inconsistent earlier in the year, has been untouchable lately. The flamethrower has not allowed a run in his last eight appearances, striking out 15 and walking two over 11 2/3 innings in that span. Perhaps even more impressive is his slash line against during this span of .027/.100/.027/.127. He could be a late-season call up for the Mets if they need bullpen help.

Justin Jarvis also looked solid out of the bullpen, allowing two runs over 5.1 innings across two appearances. The righty, who was acquired a year ago for Mark Canha, has a 5.40 ERA in 16 appearances in Triple-A, but a 4.15 ERA overall between Binghamton and Syracuse.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Somerset Patriots played a seven-game set as the two teams made up a previously postponed game. It was a rough series for Binghamton, as they dropped five of the seven games and were outscored 32-20, averaging under three runs per game. Binghamton is now 30-33 in the second half of the season and an even 65-65 overall.

Depite the lack of offense, two players stood out:

• Jaylen Palmer played both corner infield positions and center field while going 6-for-17 with two doubles and two home runs. With his effort, Palmer increased his season OPS to .763.
• Jeremiah Jackson also had a good series, matching Palmer with two home runs of his own. Jackson now has 18 home runs on the year, tied for second in the Eastern League. He also stole two bases against Somerset to give him 11 on the year. While he’s shown off decent power this year, it’s been a struggle otherwise for Jackson who has a .608 OPS.

Jonah Tong was untouchable—literally—in his Double-A debut. He would have tossed six perfect innings if not for a throwing error. Instead, he’ll have to settle for six hitless innings with no walks and nine strikeouts. Tong, who started the year in Low-A, has raised his stock about as much as anyone this season. Between St. Lucie, Brooklyn, and Binghamton, he owns a 2.87 ERA with an incredible 12.7 SO/9.

Jonathan Pintaro also tossed six scoreless innings, though he did give up two hits, a walk, and a hit batsman. Pintaro struck out seven in the effort as he continues to just shine in the Mets organization. He has a 3.18 ERA in seven starts in Binghamton and a 2.83 ERA overall. Pretty good for a guy who was in independent ball as recently as this year.

Nolan McLean also continues to get better and better. The former two-way player allowed one run in five innings of work, striking out five. McLean now owns a 4.52 ERA in Binghamton and a 3.99 ERA overall on the year. He’s allowed one run or fewer in four of his last five outings.

Cam Robinson and Wilkin Ramos were incredible out of the bullpen for the Rumble Ponies. Robinson struck out seven in three scoreless innings, though he did allow an unearned run. Meanwhile, Ramos struck out five in four scoreless innings. Robinson owns a 3.29 ERA in 27 appearances, while Ramos has a 1.71 ERA in 22 appearances with Binghamton this year.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones finished their season with a series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, taking the series by winning four of six games. It was a disappointing year for the Cyclones, who finished 32-34 in the second half and 65-67 overall. They were the fifth-place team out of six teams in the South Atlantic League North division.

Christopher Suero finished his season on a high note, going 8-for-19 with a double, two home runs, five RBIs, a walk, and two stolen bases. The 20-year-old played catcher, first base, and left field in the series. In 87 games with Brooklyn, he owned a .703 OPS but had a .730 OPS overall between St. Lucie and Brooklyn.

Boston Baro was tied for the team lead with four extra-base hits, three of which came in the series finale. Baro went 7-for-24 with three doubles, a triple, four RBIs, three walks, and a stolen base. Despite the strong finish, Baro recorded a .604 OPS in 11 games with Brooklyn, but he had a .767 OPS in 84 games for most of the season in St. Lucie.

Nick Morabito matched Baro with three doubles and a triple, though he walked just twice and didn’t record an RBI or a stolen base. Morabito finished with the most for a player in a season with the Brooklyn Cyclones, an amazing feat considering he spent 24 games early in the year with St. Lucie. Morabito finishes the year with a .747 OPS in Brooklyn and an .801 OPS overall.

Jefrey De Los Santos also had a notable week, going 5-for-14 with two doubles, three RBIs, and a walk. De Los Santos finished on a strong note despite ending the season with a .613 OPS.

Jack Wenninger was absolutely phenomenal in his start, striking out 10 and allowing just one run on one hit and two walks in six innings. The 2023 sixth-round pick ends the year with a 3.12 ERA in 10 appearances with Brooklyn, though a rough stint in St. Lucie earlier in the year has his overall ERA at 4.30.

Saul Garcia tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out seven. It was his first start for Brooklyn after recording a measly 5.43 ERA in 23 appearances with St. Lucie.

Gregori Louis continued his phenomenal season out of the bullpen, tossing 2.2 hitless innings with five strikeouts. The 21-year-old was didn’t allow a single home run in 54.1 innings across 28 appearances between the FCL, Low-A, and High-A. His ERA in Brooklyn across six appearances was 1.08 and his overall ERA in his 28 appearances was 1.33.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets also finished their season this week, and they dropped three games of a rain-shortened five-game series. The Mets end their season with a 23-40 record in the second half and a 45-84 record overall.

There was very little to be excited about on the offensive side of things this week, as the team didn’t record a single home run. Carson Benge played in four games, going 3-for-14 with two doubles and three walks while striking out just once. Benge lowered his OPS to .856 through 15 games in his first taste of pro ball.

Corey Collins only had two hits in 11 at-bats, both singles, but he did walk six times. Collins owns an .805 OPS with more walks than strikeouts in nine games.

Nick Roselli led the team with four hits, going 4-for-16 with two doubles, two RBIs, two walks, and a stolen base. Roselli ends the year with an .869 OPS.

Eli Serrano III only recorded nine at-bats, but he went 3-for-9 with a triple, also walking once. He ends with a .777 OPS.

Christian Rodriguez was St. Lucie’s most impressive pitcher, tossing four scoreless innings and recording a save in his lone appearance of the week. That lowered the 19-year-old’s ERA to 1.69 through four games in St. Lucie, and he owns a 3.16 ERA overall in 17 appearances between rookie ball and Low-A.

Irving Cota, who also started the year in rookie ball, threw three perfect innings without striking anyone out. The 20-year-old owns a 2.08 ERA in seven appearances with St. Lucie and a 2.96 ERA in 17 appearances overall.

The St. Lucie season can be put to rest.

Players of the Week

Offense – Luke Ritter, IF/OF Syracuse

Luke Ritter has been about as good as you can be for the Syracuse Mets this year. He continued his excellence this past week with three more extra-base hits including his 26th home run of the year. He leads the entire International League in RBIs. The 27-year-old arguably should have been called up by the Mets by now, especially with the rosters expanded in September, but as long as he remains in Syracuse, he’ll continue to keep mashing.

Pitching – Jonah Tong, P Binghamton

Naturally, Jonah Tong is the Mets minor league pitcher of the week after being named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week in his Binghamton Rumble Ponies debut. Tong was sensational through six near-perfect innings, the only baserunner allowed not by his own volition. Like all pitchers do, Tong has experienced ebbs and flows this year, but his flows have been minor and his ebbs have been otherworldly.

The 21-year-old was a seventh-round pick in 2022 and has outperformed that draft slot by a mile. Tong is currently ranked as MMO’s no. 7 prospect in the system.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets split their series with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, each team winning three games. The split puts Syracuse at 25-31 in the second half of the season and 71-59 overall.

• Luisangel Acuña paced the team with 10 hits in the six games, including a triple and a home run. He drove in six runs and stole four bases. Acuña didn’t get tabbed for a September call-up this year as the Mets want him to play every day, and he had a fantastic week to increase his Triple-A OPS to .671.
• Carlos Cortes also looked really good, recording seven hits including three doubles and a home run. The 27-year-old outfielder owns a .797 OPS in Syracuse this season.
• Yolmer Sánchez was on base a ton, going 8-for-19 with three doubles, a triple, a home run, and four walks. Sánchez owns a .701 OPS for the Mets this year.

Brandon Sproat made two starts this week. Though his first start (4.2 IP, 4 ER) was nothing to write home about, Sproat looked more like himself in his second start of the week when he went 5.1 scoreless innings and struck out six. Between the two starts, he allowed four runs in 10 innings and struck out 11. He owns a measly 6.75 ERA in five starts with Syracuse, but the Top 100 prospect may finally be settling in at Triple-A.

Mike Vasil also continued his upward trajectory for the Mets, allowing two earned runs in six innings in his latest showing. Vasil owns just a 5.54 ERA on the year, but he’s gone at least six innings in five of his last six starts and he owns a better, but not great, 4.48 ERA in his last 13 games.

Out of the bullpen, several relievers had fantastic weeks. Max Kranick, who has a 3.27 ERA, struck out five in 3 2/3 perfect innings, while Justin Jarvis and Shintaro Fujinami each went three scoreless. Jarvis owns a 5.71 ERA in Syracuse and a 4.20 ERA overall, while Fujinami owns a 6.29 ERA in Triple-A but has a 1.50 ERA with 14 strikeouts in his last eight outings.

Additionally, Eric Orze, who owns a 3.23 ERA in Syracuse, struck out four in two perfect innings, while Alex Young struck out two in two perfect innings, and Matt Gage also threw two scoreless innings. Young owns a 4.91 ERA in Syracuse but has been much better in the majors this year, while Gage owns a 4.85 ERA in Syracuse.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies struggled in their series against the Hartford Yard Goats, dropping five out of six games. Binghamton won a one-run game in the series opener but dropped the final five games. The Rumble Ponies are now 28-28 in the second half of the season and 63-60 overall.

Only three Binghamton offensive players really showed up this week. Among them was top prospect Ryan Clifford, who led the team with eight hits including two doubles and a home run. With his performance, Clifford raised his Double-A OPS back up to .815.

Matt Rudick also stood out in this series, going 7-for-19 with two home runs and three walks. Rudick has been solid all year for the Rumble Ponies, owning a .733 OPS.

Wyatt Young was the final standout offensive performer, going 6-for-17 with a double, four walks, and a stolen base. The 24-year-old increased his season OPS to .756 and earned a promotion to Triple-A where he spent part of the 2023 season.

Jordan Geber made two solid starts for the Rumble Ponies, allowing two runs in each start. In total, he allowed four runs across 11 innings and struck out six. Geber has impressed across three levels this year, earning a 3.32 ERA on the year including a 3.42 ERA in 15 appearances with Binghamton.

Jonathan Pintaro continued his impressive season (which started in independent ball), allowing one earned run and striking out five across 5 2/3 innings in his latest start. Pintaro has truly come out of nowhere for the Mets this year, as he owns a 2.69 ERA in 14 appearances in the Mets organization, including a 2.96 ERA in five starts in Binghamton.

Joshua Cornielly, Cam Robinson, and Junior Santos were Binghamton’s standout relievers, with each tossing at least three scoreless innings. Cornielly has an impressive 0.87 ERA in six appearances with Binghamton, while Robinson owns a 3.57 ERA and Santos owns a 5.06 ERA in Double-A.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones won their series against the Winston-Salem Dash, winning four games to Winston-Salem’s two. Brooklyn’s series win puts them at 28-32 in the second half of the season and 61-65 overall.

Jefrey De Los Santos had a fantastic week, leading the team in both batting and slugging. De Los Santos went 6-for-18 with a double, a triple, and a home run in addition to two walks. The 21-year-old has struggled this year, though, owning a .601 OPS as the season comes to a close.

D’Andre Smith also had a really good week, leading the team with eight hits. Smith recorded two doubles, two walks, and three stolen bases. He raised his season OPS in 33 games to .671, though he has an .843 OPS in his last 22 games.

Nick Morabito continued to demonstrate his impressive bat and speed with seven hits including a home run and four steals this week. Morabito owns a .730 OPS with Brooklyn this year and continues to lead the Mets minor leagues in batting and in stolen bases.

Omar De Los Santos also showed off his bat and his speed this week, going 6-for-19 with a double and a triple in addition to two steals. The speedster owns a .626 OPS on the year, though he’s been on fire for a while with a .252/.336/.504/.840 slash in his last 36 games. He also trails just Nick Morabito for the Mets organization stolen base lead with 41 on the year.

Felipe De La Cruz made two starts this week and looked really good in both. In total, he allowed just one run in eight innings while striking out six. De La Cruz is just 3-8 with a 4.28 ERA in 24 games for the Cyclones this year, though he has a 3.48 ERA in his last seven starts.

Zach Thornton and Jack Wenninger also had good starts, with Thornton striking out four in five scoreless innings and Wenninger striking out five and allowing one earned run in 4 1/3 innings. Thornton had a rough start to the year in St. Lucie, but he owns a 3.72 ERA in five games in Brooklyn, and it’s a similar story for Wenninger who has a 3.38 ERA in nine appearances in Brooklyn.

Out of the bullpen, Luis Moreno tossed four scoreless innings, striking out five in the process. Moreno owns a 3.91 ERA in 10 appearances with Brooklyn. Layonel Ovalles also looked phenomenal, striking out four in three perfect innings for his first two appearances in High-A. He also struggled mightily with St. Lucie this year but has had a great start for Brooklyn.

Ryan Ammons also continued his fantastic year, striking out six and allowing a run in 3 1/3 innings. Like Thornton, Wenninger, and Ovalles, Ammons had trouble in St. Lucie to begin the year, but he has a 1.47 ERA in 13 appearances with the Cyclones.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets split their final home series of the season, taking three games against the Jupiter Hammerheads. It was a good offensive series for the Mets, who scored 31 runs in six games, though the team allowed 29 runs too. The Mets are now 21-37 in the second half of the season and 43-81 overall.

It was the week of the 2024 draft class, as several of the newest Mets had fantastic weeks offensively.

• First-round pick Carson Benge led the group in hits, home runs, and RBIs, going 8-for-22 with a double, his first two pro home runs, and seven RBIs. In his first 11 pro games, Benge owns an .894 OPS.
• Fourth-round pick Eli Serrano III had the second-most hits with seven, going 7-for-19 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run. The NC State product also walked three times and stole a base. Serrano owns a .737 OPS in his first 14 pro games.
• Eleventh-round pick Nick Roselli out of Binghamton University had an extremely impressive week, going 6-for-17 with his first pro home run, five walks opposed to just two strikeouts, and two steals. Roselli has played solely second base to start his career, and he owns a .931 OPS in his first 14 pro games.
• Sixth-round pick Corey Collins only played in three games going 3-for-10, but like Benge and Roselli, he also hit his first pro home run after launching 20 in his final year at the University of Georgia. The power-hitting first baseman has played in just five games with St. Lucie thus far, but he owns a .912 OPS.

It’s also worth mentioning that Marco Vargas, who has not been on the map much this year due to poor play and injury, went 3-for-8 with a double in four games. The most notable part of his week, however, was that he walked nine times, stole three bases, and scored six runs in just the four games he played in. The 19-year-old owns just a .632 OPS this year, but he’s walked at least once in seven straight games and at least twice in five straight. He’s also scored at least one run in six of his last seven games.

Edgar Moreta pitched extremely well in two appearances, one of which was a start and one which came in relief. Moreta allowed two earned runs and struck out seven in six innings for his start and then struck out four over three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. In total, he struck out 11 and allowed two runs in nine innings. The soon-to-be 21-year-old owns a 5.25 ERA in 12 appearances with St. Lucie.

Joel Díaz also had a quality start, striking out four and allowing two earned runs in six innings pitched. Díaz owns a 4.95 ERA in 16 Low-A appearances but he has a 3.80 ERA in his last five appearances.

Kyle Crick made two rehab appearances for the Mets and struck out three over three scoreless innings. Crick has been on the mend all season after initially being a major league bullpen option, and he’s allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings in four rehab appearances with Low-A St. Lucie. Crick owns a career major league ERA of 3.56 across parts of six seasons with three teams.

Players of the Week

Offense – Carson Benge, OF St. Lucie

There were great offensive performances across the board this week, including from top prospects Ryan Clifford and Luisangel Acuña, as well as from Benge’s fellow 2024 draftees. Benge entered the series against Jupiter with just a .675 OPS in his first 28 plate appearances of the year, but he broke out in a big way with three multi-hit games and his first home runs as a Met, both of which went to the opposite field.

The Mets have high hopes for the first rounder, who is currently MMO’s No. 6 ranked prospect, and he’s definitely shown promise in his first foray into pro ball.

Pitching – Edgar Moreta, P St. Lucie

Brandon Sproat, Mike Vasil, Zach Thornton, Felipe De La Cruz and several relievers pitched outstandingly this past week, and any could be deserving of this recognition. However, Edgar Moreta, who is not a highly touted prospect by any means, earns the pitcher of the week honors after striking out 11 and allowing just two runs in nine innings. Moreta pitched well in rookie ball to start the year but has struggled in Low-A. His latest two outings, however, were two of his best of the year.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets and Durham Bulls split their six-game set. Durham outscored Syracuse 36-26, even with Syracuse pitchers shutting them out for a game. The Mets are now 22-28 in the second half of the season and 68-56 overall.

Drew Gilbert had his first impactful week since returning to Triple-A. After recording a .565 OPS with no home runs in his first 19 games back in Syracuse, Gilbert recorded three home runs and seven RBIs in this six-game series. With his breakout series, Gilbert now owns a .660 OPS on the year.

Mike Brosseau clubbed a pair of homers in 15 at-bats, driving in three runs. Through 81 games this year, Brosseau owns an .849 OPS.

Catcher Austin Allen also had a great series, going 5-for-11 with a home run, four RBIs, and three runs. Allen also stole a base. In 34 games with Syracuse, Allen owns an .850 OPS.

Tylor Megill, who could be promoted to the major league team following Paul Blackburn‘s placement on the injured list, tossed a scoreless outing of 4 2/3 innings against Durham. He allowed just one hit and struck out six. In eight starts with Syracuse, Megill owns a 3.15 ERA.

Mike Vasil had a solid outing, allowing four runs (three earned) in six innings of work. Vasil struck out five and lowered his season ERA to 5.67.

Eric Orze and Shintaro Fujinami shined in the bullpen, with each throwing three scoreless innings. Orze allowed two hits and struck out three, while Fujinami struck out two but didn’t allow any hits. Orze lowered his Triple-A ERA to 3.35 while Fujinami lowered his to 7.17. Fujinami, however, owns a 2.00 ERA with a .285 OPS against in six games in the month of August.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies had a great week against the Reading Fightin Phils, winning five of six games. Their lone loss was a blowout by a score of 10-3, but Binghamton held Reading to three runs or fewer in each of the other five games. The Rumble Ponies are now 27-23 in the second half of the season and 62-55 overall.

The Rumble Ponies recorded just one home run in the six-game set, and it was off the bat of Jaylen Palmer. Palmer had a great week, going 5-for-17 with four of his five hits going for extra bases (three doubles, one home run). He walked three times, scored three runs, and drove in five runs himself. In 66 games in Double-A, Palmer now owns a .748 OPS.

Stanley Consuegra matched Palmer for the team lead in RBIs with five as he went 5-for-16 with two doubles. Consuegra walked twice, stole two bags, and scored three runs. It was a solid week for the struggling bat, who owns a .624 OPS for Binghamton.

Wyatt Young led the team in hits, going 9-for-21 with two doubles. Young walked twice, stole two bags, and scored four runs while driving in just one. Young now owns a.748 OPS and has been one of Binghamton’s hottest batters; in his last 18 games, he’s recorded a slash line of .407/.493/.475/.968.

Matt Rudick has been another hot bat, as he went 7-for-16 with two doubles. Rudick walked three times, stole two bags, and scored two runs. The outfielder has a .711 OPS this year, including a .770 OPS in his last 30 games.

Nolan McLean had a fantastic week on the mound, making two starts. He threw a combined 10 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs and striking out 12. He allowed just five hits and one walk in total. McLean is 1-8 with a 4.30 ERA in Binghamton but he’s been fantastic lately; in his last nine starts, he owns a 2.76 ERA while allowing three runs or fewer in each game.

Three more starters put up quality starts, with Jonathan Pintaro (3.38 ERA) allowing one run in seven innings, Joander Suarez (3.92 ERA) allowing one run in six innings, and Jordan Geber (3.46 ERA) allowing two runs in six innings. If there’s one reason why the Reading offense was shut down in five of their six games, it’s because of the dominance of the Binghamton rotation.

Cameron Foster and TJ Shook each looked phenomenal out of the bullpen, as they both went 3 1/3 innings without allowing a run. Foster allowed five hits and struck out five while Shook allowed two hits and struck out six. Foster owns a 3.45 ERA while Shook owns a 1.35 ERA since coming over at the trade deadline.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones had a troubling series against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, dropping five of six games and being outscored 44-17. The Cyclones are now 24-30 in the second half of the season and 57-63 overall.

Nick Morabito was one of just two Cyclones batters to have a decent series. Morabito went 9-for-21 with a double, five walks and two RBIs and stealing five bases. Morabito has been the Mets’ minor league leader in average and stolen bases all year, and he had a signature week showing off his bat and his speed. His OPS with Brooklyn is now .724.

Junior Tilien was the other Cyclone to have a positive week, going 8-for-24 with a double and a home run. Tilien also drove in four runs. He now owns a .632 OPS on the year.

Pitching was unfortunately not much better than the hitting, but there were a couple of pitchers who stood out. First is Jonah Tong, who struck out eight in five scoreless innings during his outing. Tong now owns a 3.47 ERA in Brooklyn.

Luis Moreno was the only other pitcher on the team to combine length and effectiveness, allowing two earned runs in six innings across two outings. Moreno now owns a 4.64 ERA with Brooklyn.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets dropped five of their six games this past week against the Palm Beach Cardinals. The only win came on a walk-off grand slam to cap off a seven-run ninth inning in the series finale. The Mets are now 18-34 in the second half of the season and 40-78 overall.

Not only was A.J. Ewing the hero on Sunday for launching the game-winning grand slam, but he was also easily the Mets’ best minor league hitter of the week. He recorded 12 hits in 22 at-bats with three doubles, two home runs, and four walks. That equates to a ridiculous slash line of .545/.615/.955/1.570. The former fourth-round pick from the 2023 draft now owns a .711 OPS in St. Lucie this year.

Boston Baro, a fellow member of the 2023 draft class, also looked good in a week that concluded with a promotion to High-A Brooklyn. He went 7-for-16 with a home run, finishing his time in St. Lucie with a .767 OPS.

Yohairo Cuevas trailed only A.J. Ewing in RBIs on the week, driving in five. He went 5-for-14 with two doubles, two walks, and two stolen bases. The 20-year-old owns a .619 OPS this year, but he has a .756 OPS in his last 41 games.

St. Lucie did not receive any notable starts this week, but there were still some impressive pitching performances. Irving Cota allowed just two runs in 5 2/3 innings of work across two outings. Cota, who started the year in the FCL, owns a 2.84 ERA in five appearances with the St. Lucie Mets.

Christian Rodriguez tossed four scoreless innings and earned the win in St. Lucie’s lone victory of the week. The 19-year-old has made just two appearances with St. Lucie, but he’s only allowed one run on three hits across eight innings.

Layonel Ovalles and Wellington Aracena have both struggled this year, but both pitchers tossed three scoreless innings against Palm Beach. Ovalles allowed one hit and struck out four, while Aracena allowed one hit and struck out three. Ovalles owns a 6.25 ERA while Aracena owns an 11.42 ERA in St. Lucie this year.

Dominican Summer League Mets

The DSL season came to a close this past week. The DSL Mets Orange finished the year 27-27 while the DSL Mets Blue finished the year 21-33. Neither team made the postseason.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a better week of any Mets minor leaguer this year than the week A.J. Ewing just had. In addition to his absurd stats, which raised his OPS nearly 100 points from .614 to .711, he also ended the week with a walk-off grand slam. It honestly doesn’t get much better than that. Ewing has struggled in St. Lucie this year, but he looked really good in the FCL at the beginning of the year, and he certainly looks good right now. It would be great to see if the 20-year-old can keep his foot on the pedal through the rest of the season.

Pitching – Nolan McLean, P Binghamton

You could honestly say any of Binghamton’s starters from this previous week are deserving of pitcher of the week, but McLean gets the nod as he had two really effective outings. McLean struggled both at the plate and on the mound after he was promoted to Double-A, but since he has decided to focus solely on being a pitcher, he’s looked more comfortable on the mound. The 2023 third-rounder has a ton of potential and he’s been showing lately what he’s capable of.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets continued their second half free fall, losing five of six games to the Rochester Red Wings this past week. Syracuse dropped the first five games of the series before recording a win in the finale. Syracuse is now 19-25 in the second half and 65-53 overall.

Brett Baty had a fantastic week at the plate, leading the Mets in runs, home runs and RBIs, while also being tied for the team lead in hits. He went 7-for-23 with three home runs, good for a 1.146 OPS in the six games. Baty continues to swing the bat really well, now owning an .884 OPS in Syracuse. He’s certainly made himself a candidate to be a September call up in a couple of weeks.

Pablo Reyes also continued his great season, going 7-for-19 with a double, two walks, and two stolen bases. The former Red Sox infielder now owns an .871 OPS in Syracuse this year, including a .901 OPS in Triple-A overall.

Jackie Bradley Jr. only played in three games but he still made an impact, going 5-for-11 with two doubles, a walk, and two stolen bases. The veteran outfielder currently has a .744 OPS in 12 games with Syracuse.

Tylor Megill impressed in his lone start of the week, allowing four runs but going 7 2/3 innings and striking out 11 batters. Megill has been solid in seven starts with Syracuse, now owning a 3.57 ERA.

Blade Tidwell had an impressive outing, allowing just two runs in 6 1/3 innings. Tidwell has struggled with inconsistency at the Triple-A level, owning a 5.55 ERA, but his most recent start was perhaps his best since late May.

Joey Lucchesi and trade deadline acquisition Tyler Zuber both looked good out of the pen. Lucchesi tossed an outing of three innings, allowing no runs on one hit and two walks, while Zuber struck out four in two perfect innings. Lucchesi now owns a 4.78 ERA in Triple-A this year while Zuber has a 3.60 ERA in seven outings with Syracuse.

Double-A

The Binghamton Ruble Ponies and Portland Sea Dogs engaged in a seven-game series that included make up a game, but the Rumble Ponies could only muster one win, which also happened to be in the final game of the series. Binghamton is now 22-22 in the second half of the season and 57-54 overall.

Ryan Clifford looked great in seven games against Portland, going 7-for-24 with a home run, three runs, and four walks. Clifford has cooled down a bit since his torrid stretch at the plate, but he still owns an .807 OPS with Binghamton.

Wyatt Young was perhaps Binghamton’s best player at the plate in this series, as he went 7-for-19 with five RBIs, and five walks to just two strikeouts. Young continues to look great, owning a .729 OPS with Binghamton including a .947 OPS in his last 13 games.

Binghamton received some fantastic pitching performances this past week, including from Joander Suarez who struck out 10 over 10 1/3 innings across two starts. Suarez allowed three earned runs in those two starts and now owns a 4.05 ERA, with his ERA in his last five starts being 1.61.

Nolan McLean also produced a great start, allowing no runs in 5 1/3 innings. It was McLean’s first shutout since joining Binghamton, and he now owns a 4.79 ERA with the club. His ERA in his last seven starts has been 3.13.

Jonathan Pintaro looked solid, allowing three earned runs (and two unearned runs) in six innings of work. Pintaro has a 4.63 ERA in three starts with Binghamton, but that number drops to 2.45 if you don’t count his disastrous first start. The former independent ball pitcher has a 3.02 ERA across 12 total appearances in the Mets organization this year.

Out of the bullpen, Carlos Guzman was the star reliever. Guzman allowed no runs and no hits in 4 2/3 innings of work, striking out six. Guzman owns just a 4.40 ERA in Binghamton this year, but he has a 2.16 ERA in his last 17 appearances across two levels.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones had better luck than its two superior affiliates, taking five out of six games against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Brooklyn outscored their opponent 24-18 in the six games, in what was a generally low-scoring series. Brooklyn is now 23-25 in the second half of the season and 56-58 overall.

Omar De Los Santos was Brooklyn’s best hitter this past week despite not hitting much for most of this year. The speedy outfielder went 6-for-19 with a double, a home run, five RBIs, three walks, and a stolen base in what was a busy series for him. De Los Santos now owns a .618 OPS in Binghamton, including a .912 OPS in his last 26 games.

William Lugo also impressed, going 5-for-21 with three doubles, a home run, and two RBIs. Lugo has also not hit much this year, owning just a .655 OPS for the Rumble Ponies, though he has also been trending upwards. He owns a .909 OPS in his last 22 games.

D’Andre Smith has been getting more comfortable at the plate, as he went 6-for-18 this past week with two doubles and a stolen base. The 2022 fifth-round pick owns a .615 OPS in 23 games this year.

Jack Wenninger produced the best start of the week for Brooklyn, striking out eight in five scoreless innings. Wenninger has been great since being promoted to Brooklyn, owning a 2.84 ERA in six appearances.

Zach Thornton also made a start of five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three batters. Thornton now owns a 2.38 ERA in three appearances with the Cyclones.

Jonah Tong, who has been fantastic all season, tossed a quality start of three runs in six innings, striking out five batters in the process. Tong has been great all year for St. Lucie and Brooklyn, and he owns a 3.70 ERA with the Cyclones.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets recorded a rare series win, taking four of six games from the Daytona Tortugas. Despite the series win, St. Lucie was outscored 31-23 over six games. The Mets are now 17-29 in the second half of the season and 39-73 overall.

This past week saw the debut of some of the Mets’ most recent draft picks, including Carson Benge (first round), who walked four times and stole two bases in nine plate appearances, and Eli Serrano III (third round), who recorded his first pro home run. Nick Roselli (11th round) and Jacoby Long (17th round) also debuted, with both impressing in small sample sizes. Roselli tripled and walked three times in four games, while Long also tripled and walked twice in four games.

Yohairo Cuevas was easily the most productive batter of the week for St. Lucie, going 5-for-18 with three doubles and six walks. Cuevas owns a .608 OPS on the year.

Saul Garcia impressed on the mound in two appearances, one as a starter and one as a bulk reliever. In total, Garcia allowed just one run in 8 2/3 innings, striking out seven batters. Garcia owns a 4.96 ERA on the year, but he has a 2.05 ERA in his last six games.

Joel Díaz, Edgar Moreta, and Jorge De Leon all impressed in their starts as well. Díaz struck out six and allowed a run in five innings, Moreta struck out five and allowed a run in 5 2/3 innings, and De Leon tossed three scoreless innings. Díaz now owns a 5.20 ERA, while Moreta owns a 6.00 ERA and De Leon sports a 7.71 ERA.

Layonel Ovalles and Juan Arnaud shined out of the bullpen. Ovalles was especially dominant, striking out seven and allowing a run in 4 1/3 innings, while Arnaud struck out four in 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Ovalles now owns a 6.82 ERA this year while Arnaud has a 4.25 ERA.

Dominican Summer League Mets

The DSL Mets Orange went 2-2 this past week, bringing their record on the year to 26-27. Vladi Gomez (.761 season OPS) was phenomenal, going 8-for-16 with a double, a triple, four walks, a strikeout, and six stolen bases, while Enderson Asencio (.724 season OPS) also impressed, going 4-for-10 with six RBIs, three walks, and a stolen base. Jonathan Jimenez (3.99 season ERA) tossed six scoreless innings and struck out four while Nicolas Carreno (3.66 season ERA) threw five scoreless innings.

The DSL Mets Blue went 3-2 this past week, improving their record to 21-32. Vladi Guerrero (.574 season OPS) doubled and tripled while driving in three runs and Alex Acosta (.717 season OPS) went 4-for-7 with a double and a home run. Anthony Crespo (3.24 season ERA) struck out six and allowed a run across seven innings while Elwis Mijares (5.80 ERA) struck out seven over five scoreless innings.

Players of the Week

Offense – Brett Baty, 3B/2B Syracuse

Despite Syracuse’s poor showing this week, it wasn’t the fault of Brett Baty who was spectacular. He hit three home runs and hit safely in four of the six games. There was a time where Baty seemed to be struggling even at the Triple-A level, but he has picked it back up and owns an .877 OPS in his last 24 games.

If Baty continues to swing the bat well down the stretch, there’s a good chance he could re-join the major league club in September or even before then. All the Mets can do is hope that Baty comes back swinging a hotter bat than when he was sent down.

Pitching – Saul Garcia, P St. Lucie

While Garcia is the pick, pitchers such as Tylor Megill, Blade Tidwell, Nolan McLean, and Jack Wenninger deserve props as well. Garcia, though, earns this recognition in part because he has pitched so well lately after carrying a 6.58 ERA through his first 15 games of the year. Garcia has cut his ERA down to 4.96 with the help of a spectacular week for the St. Lucie Mets. The 21-year-old is in his fourth professional season, and he has yet to experience a prolonged stretch of success, though he is certainly in a groove right now.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets won two out of five games against the Worcester Red Sox this past week, with their series finale suspended in the fifth inning. Syracuse held a 4-2 lead, and the game will resume on September 10. After officially going 2-3, the Mets are 18-20 in the second half of the season and 64-48 overall.

Luke Ritter recorded five hits in 13 at-bats, including a double and a home run, but perhaps most impressive was that he walked five times and struck out just once. Ritter has consistently been one of Syracuse’s best bats all year, owning a .910 OPS in 103 games.

DJ Stewart also looked good, recording seven hits in 14 at-bats, including a double and a home run. Stewart drew four walks and struck out four times, demonstrating his elite eye. Since being optioned to Triple-A, Stewart owns a 1.322 OPS in seven games.

Mike Vasil was easily Syracuse’s top starting pitcher this week. The 24-year-old allowed just two runs and struck out eight in six innings. Vasil has just a 5.31 ERA this year but has pitched to a 3.76 ERA in his last ten outings.

Joey Lucchesi and Matt Gage pitched well out of the bullpen, with Lucchesi tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings and Gage recording two scoreless innings and a save. Lucchesi has struggled in Syracuse this year, owning a 4.94 ERA, while Gage has been stellar since coming over to the Mets with 8 1/3 scoreless innings.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Somerset Patriots in four of the team’s five games, with one game of the series postponed due to inclement weather. With their series win, Binghamton is now 21-16 in the second half of the season and 56-48 overall.

Wyatt Young led all Rumble Ponies batters with six hits in the five-game series, recording a double and two stolen bases. Young has been steady all year for Binghamton, owning a .714 OPS.

Matt Rudick had a great week, highlighted by a pinch-hit three-run homer in extra innings to put the Rumble Ponies ahead for good on Sunday. Rudick only had three hits in the five-game set, but he also recorded three walks and two stolen bases. Rudick has also been solid this year for Binghamton, owning a .715 OPS in 87 games.

Binghamton pitchers were stellar against the Patriots, with starters Jonathan Pintaro and Jordan Geber each throwing five scoreless innings in their outings. Pintaro owns a 3.67 ERA in 11 games between High-A and Double-A, while Geber has a 2.84 ERA in 11 appearances with the Rumble Ponies.

Joander Suarez and Luis Moreno shined, with each tossing 6 2/3 innings. Suarez allowed two runs and struck out nine, while Moreno allowed three runs and struck out six. Suarez owns a 2.60 ERA in his last five starts and has a 4.19 ERA overall, while Moreno owns a 2.76 ERA in his last six starts and a 3.84 ERA overall.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones split their series with the Hudson Valley Renegades, each team taking three games. It was a low-scoring series, with Hudson Valley outscoring Brooklyn 19-13 in the six games. Brooklyn is now 18-24 in the second half of the season and 51-57 overall.

Given the lack of scoring, Brooklyn didn’t have many batters that produced much at the plate. D’Andre Smith and Junior Tilien were the only two batters with an OPS in the series above .700, with Smith going 6-for-14 and Tilien going 5-for-20. For the year, Smith has a .552 OPS in Brooklyn, while Tilien owns a .631 OPS.

While the bats were asleep, the pitching staff did its part. Felipe De La Cruz tossed a quality start, allowing two runs and striking out seven over six innings. De La Cruz owns a 4.32 ERA in 2024.

Jack Wenninger didn’t last long in his outing, going 3 2/3 innings, but he allowed one run and struck out eight. Wenninger has a 3.54 ERA in eight appearances in Brooklyn but a 4.70 ERA total, counting his stint in St. Lucie. Wenninger is adept at striking out batters, recording 111 punchouts in 92 innings this year.

Eduardo Herrera and Justin Lawson were fantastic out of the bullpen, with Herrera striking out six in 3 1/3 scoreless innings and Lawson tossing three scoreless innings. Herrera owns a 4.00 ERA this year, while Lawson has a 2.68 ERA in 27 innings.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets lost five out of six games and were outscored 39-18 in their series against the Bradenton Marauders. The Mets continue to plummet as they are 13-27 in the second half and 35-71 overall.

Like Brooklyn, St. Lucie also experienced a lack of production at the plate. A.J. Ewing and Boston Baro were the two batters with more than ten plate appearances in the series to own an OPS higher than .700. Ewing went 5-for-17 with a double and a triple, with Baro going 6-for-20 with a double. With St. Lucie, Ewing owns a .610 OPS, and Baro owns a .772 OPS.

Austin Troesser, Gregori Louis, and Franklin Gomez were the three pitchers who shined for St. Lucie, with most of the rest of the staff struggling in the series. Troesser (4.25 season ERA) started one game and appeared in another out of the pen, tossing four scoreless innings and striking out six. Louis (1.38 season ERA) also tossed four scoreless innings, while Gomez (3.88 season ERA) threw three scoreless innings himself.

Dominican Summer League Mets

The DSL Mets Orange did not fare well this past week, going 1-4 to drop to 24-25 on the year. Bohan Adderley (.701 season OPS) went 5-for-15 with seven walks and five stolen bases, while Yovanny Rodriguez (.667 season OPS) recorded five hits with a home run.  Jamdrick Cornelia (1.44 season ERA) struck out five over four scoreless innings, and Jermayne Verdu struck out five over 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

The DSL Mets Blue went 3-2 this past week to improve to 18-30 on the year. Alex Acosta (.671 season OPS) recorded a double and a triple in addition to three walks and two stolen bases. Meanwhile, Justin Ramirez (.640 season OPS) recorded a double and a home run. Danny Portel (1.59 season ERA) struck out six in three scoreless innings, while Elwis Mijares (7.43 season ERA) struck out five over four scoreless innings.

Offense – Luisangel Acuña, IF/OF Syracuse

Luisangel Acuña finally demonstrated some power this week, something he has failed to do most of the season. He has just six home runs and 29 total extra-base hits in 103 games this year. Five of those extra-base hits came this week, as Acuña slugged .778 in five games played. Acuña has not played well in 2024, a year many predicted he’d reach the Major Leagues. There’s still time for that, but he might not be ready.

Pitching – Joander Suarez, P Binghamton

Joander Suarez has been one of the most inconsistent pitchers in the Mets’ system this year, owning a 4.19 ERA but also showing flashes of dominance like he did this past week. He struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings and completed his second consecutive quality start, and he now has a 1.08 ERA in his last three starts.

Despite the overall struggles out of Syracuse and Binghamton, the two best minor leaguers from this past week were Syracuse’s Luke Ritter and Binghamton’s Brandon Sproat. Sproat is now a member of the Syracuse Mets after earning a promotion following his latest dazzling start in which he struck out 13 batters over five innings.

Triple-A

For the second consecutive series, the Syracuse Mets looked nothing like themselves, losing five out of six games. This time, it came against the Columbus Clippers. The final three games of the series were especially lopsided, with Syracuse being outscored 14-2. Syracuse is now 16-17 in the second half of the season and 62-45 overall.

Luke Ritter had a phenomenal week, recording nine hits including three home runs, and also driving in nine runs. Ritter had an OPS of 1.688 in his six games against Columbus to raise his season OPS to .895.

Drew Gilbert recorded four hits in four games, two of which were doubles. Gilbert also walked three times while striking out just twice. Gilbert is still settling back into Syracuse after returning from his injury, and he owns a .659 OPS on the year.

Jackie Bradley Jr. continues to have success for the Mets since his signing, as he went 3-for-12 with a home run this week. Bradley now owns an .816 OPS through six games with Syracuse.

Mike Vasil impressed in two starts against the Clippers. In his first outing, he allowed one run over seven innings before allowing four runs over six innings in his second outing. Overall, he allowed five runs in 13 innings and struck out 10. Vasil now owns a 5.46 ERA on the year, including a 3.76 ERA in his last 10 starts.

Out of the bullpen, Max Kranick impressed with 2 2/3 scoreless innings, while Eric Orze and Shintaro Fujinami each threw two scoreless innings. Fujinami impressively did not allow a batter to reach in his two innings of work. Kranick owns a 3.20 ERA, Orze a 3.25 ERA, and Fujinami a 9.42 ERA with Syracuse this year.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies went 2-4 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The two teams headed into a Sunday doubleheader with two wins each, but New Hampshire outscored Binghamton 8-1 in the two games to earn the sweep and the series win. The Rumble Ponies are now 17-15 in the second half of the season and 52-47 overall.

Stanley Consuegra was Binghamton’s standout bat of the week, going 5-for-17 with a double, a home run, and a stolen base in six games. Consuegra owns a .649 OPS since being called up to Binghamton.

Matt Rudick was the only other Bingo bat to have a good week at the plate, going 6-for-18 with two doubles. Rudick has a .710 OPS in Binghamton this year.

Brandon Sproat had arguably the start of the year for any Mets minor leaguer. In five shutout innings, he was nearly unhittable, striking out 13 batters, including a stretch of 11 in a row. With his performance, Sproat lowered his ERA with Binghamton to 2.45 and earned a well-deserved promotion to Triple-A Syracuse. He’s easily become the Mets’ top pitching prospect since Christian Scott’s promotion to the bigs.

While Sproat had a fantastic outing, both Luis Moreno and Joander Suarez had almost equally impressive appearances. Moreno allowed just one hit and one walk over five shutout innings, striking out nine, while Suarez allowed just one hit over six shutout innings, also striking out nine. Moreno owns a 3.82 ERA in 18 games with Binghamton, while Suarez owns a 4.30 ERA in 19 games.

The Rumble Ponies also experienced some great bullpen appearances, with Josh Hejka (4 2/3 innings) and Nolan Clenney (3 1/3 innings) each not allowing a run. Jeffrey Colon (3 2/3 innings) also did not allow a run, though he was the starter in his game. Hejka has a 4.63 ERA in eight games since being promoted, while Clenney has a 5.54 ERA and Colon has a 1.69 ERA in four appearances.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones split their series with the Aberdeen IronBirds to move them to 15-21 in the second half of the season. Overall, Brooklyn is 48-54 on the year.

• Mateo Gil had a fantastic series, going 7-for-21 with two doubles and two home runs. He also led the team with six runs driven in. Gil has struggled with Brooklyn this year, owning a .681 OPS.
• Nick Morabito also impressed, leading the team with eight hits while recording a double, a triple, and four stolen bases. Morabito now owns a .735 OPS in Brooklyn.
• Jacob Reimer made his return to the Brooklyn Cyclones and despite playing in just three games, he went 3-for-10 with a double, an RBI, and a walk without striking out once. His OPS in the three games was .817.

On the pitching side:

• Jonah Tong pitched well in his start, allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings and also striking out 10 batters. Through 15 starts in Brooklyn, Tong now owns a 3.36 ERA with 88 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings. Will he get a chance to pitch in Binghamton before the season is over? The Mets have been aggressive with their prospects this year.
• Jawilme Ramirez also had a solid start, allowing one run in four innings. Ramirez has started just five games in 14 appearances for the Cyclones, and he owns a 3.80 ERA.
• Justin Lawson was the Cyclones’ best reliever, allowing two unearned runs in 4 2/3 innings over two appearances. Lawson now owns a 2.84 ERA in 26 appearances in Brooklyn.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets and Fort Myers Mighty Mussels were only able to play a four-game series due to inclement weather, but the Mets came out on top by winning three of the four games. Still, St. Lucie is just 12-22 in the second half of the season and 34-66 overall.

• Boston Baro had a fantastic week, going 5-for-14 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Baro now owns a .775 OPS with St. Lucie, including an .831 OPS in his last 29 games.
• Colin Houck also had a really good week, going 4-for-9 with a home run and leading the team with four RBIs. Houck has struggled overall, though, owning a .617 OPS.
• Diego Mosquera also went 4-for-9, though he didn’t walk or record an extra-base hit. Still, he raised his OPS on the year to .532.

On the pitching side:

• Saul Garcia had a phenomenal outing this week. Despite not starting, he went four scoreless innings and struck out nine batters. Garcia has a 5.47 ERA with St. Lucie but a 1.59 ERA in his last three appearances.
• Joel Díaz also had a lengthy outing despite not starting. He went seven innings, allowing just two runs and striking out just two. Still, it was a great appearance for Díaz who has a 5.17 ERA on the year but a 3.86 ERA in his last four appearances.
• Gregori Louis also continues to shine for the Mets out of the bullpen, as he struck out five in two scoreless innings. The lefty owns a 1.54 ERA in 17 appearances with St. Lucie this year.

Dominican Summer League Mets

The DSL Mets Orange had a solid week, going 3-2. That puts them at 23-21 on the year. Keiver Garcia (.735 season OPS) went 4-for-11 with a triple and stolen bases while Yovanny Rodriguez (.641 OPS) recorded two doubles and five RBIs. Jose Guevara (1.49 season ERA) allowed one run and struck out five in five innings, as did Emilio Obispo (3.42 season ERA).

The DSL Mets Blue struggled, going 1-3 to put them at 15-28 on the year. Diover De Aza (.623 season OPS) had four hits including a double and a home run, also driving in five runs. Meanwhile, Yensi Rivas (.687 season OPS) recorded three hits, four walks, and three stolen bases. Elwis Mijares (7.42 season ERA) looked fantastic, allowing a run over six innings and striking out eight, while Wilmer Lugo (2.81 season ERA) struck out six in five scoreless innings.

Players of the Week

Offense – Luke Ritter, IF/OF Syracuse

Luke Ritter has long been a call-up candidate for the New York Mets, though he has yet to reach the majors. The 27-year-old provides defensive versatility and impressive pop as seen from his display this week. Not only did Ritter hit three home runs and record nine RBIs, he logged games at second base, third base, and left field. He has also played first base this year but has not done so in nearly a month.

Ritter now leads the International League with 78 RBIs in 98 games, and he could certainly be called up to help the Mets for the stretch run to the playoffs.

Pitching – Brandon Sproat, P Binghamton

Brandon Sproat is on the fast track to the major leagues, evidenced by his promotion to Triple-A, his third stop in his first professional season. Sproat has been one of the best pitching prospects in baseball and is a possible call-up candidate to help the Mets later in the season. If that happens, he will likely start out in the bullpen.

The Mets will be interested to see how Sproat fares in Triple-A, where pitchers’ stats typically falter, but the 23-year-old has not shown any reason he won’t continue to dominate.

St. Lucie joined Syracuse in losing their series, while Binghamton split theirs and Brooklyn was the only affiliate to come out of this past week with a series win.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets had an uncharacteristically poor week, losing five out of six games to the Buffalo Bisons. Syracuse is now 15-12 in the second half of the season and 61-40 overall.

Pablo Reyes also looked good, going 6-for-21 with a double, a triple, a home run, three walks, and three stolen bases. Reyes continues to hit for the Mets, owning an .881 OPS.

Jackie Bradley Jr. made his Mets organizational debut after being signed earlier in the week. The veteran went 3-for-13 in three games, socking a home run in the process.

Dom Hamel tossed a quality start for the Mets, allowing two runs over six innings. He allowed seven hits but walked none and struck out nine. He still, however, sports a lofty ERA which now sits at 6.25.

Jordan Geber, who started the year in Brooklyn, made his Triple-A debut and it was a success. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Between Brooklyn, Binghamton, and now Syracuse this year, Geber owns a 2.98 ERA.

Max Kranick, Matt Gage, and Eric Orze each pitched magnificently out of the bullpen. Kranick struck out six in 4 2/3 scoreless innings, while Gage struck out five in 2 2/3 hitless innings. Orze threw two perfect innings, striking out three. Kranick owns a 3.40 ERA, while Gage has not allowed a run in Syracuse in 5 1/3 innings. He was called up to the major league roster on Monday. Orze, who has made two major league appearances, owns a 3.40 ERA in Syracuse.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies clinched a series split against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, with each team winning three apiece. Each team scored 24 runs in the six-game set. The Rumble Ponies are now 15-11 in the second half of the season and 50-43 overall.

• Kevin Parada was Binghamton’s best bat in the series, going 7-for-19 with three doubles and three runs. He also drove in a run and walked twice. Parada now owns a .707 OPS for the season, with his OPS in 18 games in July at .887.
• Jeremiah Jackson also had seven hits, going 7-for-24 with a home run, five RBIs, and two walks. Jackson’s five RBIs tied Rowdey Jordan for the team lead during the series. While Jordan also clubbed a home run and stole three bases, he only went 4-for-22 on the week. Jackson owns a .642 OPS while Jordan owns a .649 OPS.
• Matt Rudick came in third on the team with six hits, though he led the team with four doubles. Rudick owns a .701 OPS in Binghamton.

Brandon Sproat went five innings in his latest start, allowing three runs and striking out six. Sproat hasn’t been his dominant self in his previous two starts, but he’s still been quality, nonetheless. He owns a 2.67 ERA in Binghamton.

Joander Suarez threw five scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing five baserunners. Suarez owns a 4.58 ERA this year.

Tyler Stuart made his final start in the Mets organization, allowing one run in six innings early in the week. Stuart was traded to the Nationals for Jesse Winker.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones won their series with the Rome Emperors, taking four games and dropping two. Even with their series win, the Cyclones are still just 12-18 in the second half of the season and 45-51 overall.

Nick Morabito had a fantastic week at the plate, leading the team in hits, walks, and stolen bases. In fact, he was the only player on the team to steal a base in the series and he stole five of them. Overall, he went 9-for-21 with three RBIs, five walks, and five stolen bases. Morabito now owns a .723 OPS with Brooklyn.

Omar De Los Santos, who is also a speed demon with little power, actually led the team in home runs with two during the series. His two home runs made up two of his four hits in 20 at-bats, and he also struck out nine times without walking. He owns a .560 OPS this year.

• Jonathan Pintaro made two starts and he was excellent in both of them. Overall, he allowed one run in nine innings while striking out nine across the two starts. He now owns a 2.50 ERA with Brooklyn. A fun fact about Pintaro is he attended school at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, so he was able to shine against a team local to where he went to college.
• Kade Morris also looked great, throwing 6 1/3 innings of three-run ball. He struck out six in the effort, and he now owns a 3.43 ERA in Brooklyn.
• Jack Wenninger made his third appearance for the Cyclones, striking out four over five scoreless innings. He owns a 4.80 ERA between St. Lucie and Brooklyn.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets won just one game in their series against the Palm Beach Cardinals, their one victory being a 4-0 shutout. The Mets scored just 15 runs in the six games while allowing 31. St. Lucie is now 9-21 in the second half of the season and 31-65 overall.

A somewhat positive offensive performance in the series came from Boston Baro, who went 5-for-18. Even though he didn’t record an extra-base hit, he drove in two runs, walked four times, and stole two bags.

The St. Lucie starters didn’t give much length in the series, but some relievers shined. Gregori Louis has been phenomenal for the Mets, and he struck out six in three hitless innings over two appearances. Louis now owns a 1.64 ERA with St. Lucie.

Cristofer Gomez also looked really good, striking out four over 4 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit and one walk on his way to lowering his ERA to 4.60.

Alan Perdomo also threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings, though he allowed four hits. Still, he didn’t allow a walk and struck out three. He owns a 4.02 ERA on the year though he has a 1.37 ERA in his last 11 appearances.

Florida Complex League Mets

The FCL regular season ended this past week, and the Mets played just one game, a 4-3 win over the FCL Nationals. They finish their season at 23-28 and in fourth place in the FCL East division.

Jeremy Rodriguez (.755 OPS, No. 10 in MMO’s Top 50), Daiverson Gutierrez (1.000 OPS, No. 28), Simon Juan (.796 OPS, No. 48), Yonatan Henriquez (.841 OPS, No. 50), Brayhans Barreto (2.76 ERA), Christian Rodriguez (3.82 ERA), and Joseph Yabbour (3.24 ERA) were some of the notable players from the team this summer. Some may get the call to St. Lucie to continue their season.

Dominican Summer League Mets

While the FCL is over, the DSL is still underway. The DSL Mets Orange went 5-2 this past week, putting them over .500 at 20-19. Randy Guzman (.925 season OPS) went 3-for-13 with a home run, while Rainer Reyes (.949 season OPS) went 3-for-8 with a home run, two walks, and two stolen bases. Jose Guevara (1.45 season ERA) struck out eight over six scoreless innings while Emilio Obispo (4.03 season ERA) struck out five over four scoreless innings

The DSL Mets Blue went 2-4 this past week, dropping them to 14-25 on the year. Daris Cordero (.770 season OPS) recorded seven hits including a double and also drove in four runs and stole two bases. Vladi Guerrero (.579 season OPS) led the squad with five walks and also recorded four hits including a double. Elwis Mijares (9.27 season ERA) struck out eight in six scoreless innings while Joel Lara (2.45 season ERA) didn’t allow an earned run in 4 1/3 innings of work, also striking out six.

Players of the Week

Offense – Brett Baty, 3B Syracuse

Brett Baty had been in a bit of a skid before the Mets’ series with Buffalo, hitting .202 with a .730 OPS in his previous 27 games. He came alive against the Bisons, recording four extra-base hits including two home runs and also walking four times. At this point, Baty is someone who can clearly handle Triple-A pitching and is currently blocked from the major league roster with Mark Vientos cementing himself as the full-time third baseman. However, that’s a job he lost after not performing over 600 plate appearances in MLB. Could he be a trade piece? At just 24, his professional future is still fully in front of him.

Pitching – Jonathan Pintaro, P Brooklyn

Jonathan Pintaro is a name most Mets fans won’t know. As was mentioned earlier, he played at Shorter University and was in independent ball as recently at the start of this year. The 26-year-old has pitched in nine games for the Brooklyn Cyclones and owns a 2.50 ERA. That number was lowered this week after he allowed just one run in nine innings.

Pintaro isn’t a prospect who should be on anyone’s radar, but he’s certainly impressed in the little time he’s spent in Brooklyn.
