<p><strong>Las Vegas (</strong>27-14<strong>) 11, Okla. City 6</strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=matz--001ste&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Steven Matz</a></strong> did not have one of his typical dominant outings giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out seven batters in 6.1 innings. He threw 92 pitches, 66 of them for strikes and produced 9 groundball outs compared to two fly ball outs. His line would have looked a little better had <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=thornt001zac&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Zack Thornton</a></strong> been able to strand the runner he inherited from Matz in the 7th inning. On the flip side this was pretty easily the best lineup he has faced all year with 4 out of the Dodgers top 5 hitting prospects in the lineup including #1 <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=seager001cor&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Corey Seager</a></strong>. Matz gave up back-to-back homeruns in the first inning, one of them by <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/heisech01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Chris Heisey</a></strong> who would be on about 29 MLB rosters. Matz settled down after the first not allowing another earned run until the 7th, the two runs in the 5th were unearned because of a <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/player_search.cgi?results=reynoma02,reynol003mat&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Matt Reynolds</a></strong> error at SS. Matz also picked up his 5th hit of the year and scored two runs. Matz now has 61 strikeouts on the year which leads all of MiLB. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/ricesc01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Scott Rice</a></strong> pitched a clean 8th inning striking out two batters and lowering his ERA to 0.77 while only giving up three hits in 11.2 innings albeit with nine walks. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=satter001cod&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Cody Satterwhite</a></strong> pitched a perfect 9th picking up two strikeouts and has lowered his ERA from 11.05 to 6.75 over his last 10 appearances.</p>
<p>Danny Muno was the offensive star for the 51&#8217;s hitting his 1st HR (two-run in 2nd), his 1st triple, walked, and scored three times out of the leadoff spot. <a href="https://www.milb.com/r/video?content_id=125887683&amp;topic_id=&amp;sid=t400&amp;tcid=vpp_copy_125887683&amp;v=3" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Here is video</strong></a> of the Muno HR. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/conrabr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Brooks Conrad</a></strong> had only one hit but it was a big one as his 1st inning three-run homer tied the game. Matt Reynolds was 1-4 with a walk and two runs scored but saw his average dip to .289 on the year. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/casteal01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Alex Castellanos</a></strong> had a two-run single in the 7th to extend the 51&#8217;s lead to 10-6 and give him the team lead with 28 (7th in PCL). <strong><a href="https://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2015_05_21_okcaaa_lvgaaa_1&amp;t=g_box&amp;sid=t400" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Box Score</a>. </strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=pill--001tyl&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Tyler Pill</a></strong> (1-0, 5.75) looks for his 3rd straight solid start tonight at 10:05 against Oklahoma City.</p>
<p><strong>Harrisburg 9, Binghamton (</strong>22-18<strong>) 2</strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=cessa-001lui&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Luis Cessa</a></strong> had his worst outing of the year going only 4.1 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits, two walks, and a wild pitch. Cessa collected just two strikeouts and was not helped by his defense which made three errors behind him including <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=cecchi001gav&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Gavin Cecchini</a></strong> with his 10th. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=kolare001ada&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Adam Kolarek</a></strong> had his 15 inning scoreless streak snapped in the 6th when Troy Renda hit a three-run HR off him.</p>
<p>The night after Binghamton hit into 4 double plays they hit into 3 more giving them 10 for the series, the most in a 3 or 4 game set since 2007. Cecchini was 1-3 with a walk but has hit just .268 in May and has struggled in the field lately picking up his 10th error (7th throwing I believe). <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=carril001xor&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Xorge Carrillo</a></strong> did tie the game in 5th at 2-2 with his only hit a two-run single that scored <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=lawley000dus&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dustin Lawley</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/coopeda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">David Cooper</a></strong>. <a href="https://www.milb.com/r/video?content_id=125889083&amp;topic_id=&amp;sid=t505&amp;tcid=vpp_copy_125889083&amp;v=3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Here is video</a> of the single. Carrillo has been a RBI machine lately with 12 over his last 10 games while hitting .333/.408/.524 in the month of May. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=boyd--000jay&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jayce Boyd</a></strong> went 1-4 extending his hit streak to 7 games and is now hitting ,328/.403/.469 in May. Lawley was the lone B&#8217;Mets with two hits including his 13th double of the season.<strong><a href="https://binghamton.mets.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2015_05_21_binaax_haraax_1&amp;t=g_box&amp;did=milb&amp;sid=t505" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Box Score</a>. </strong>Binghamton plays tonight at 7:05 against Akron with <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=fulmer002mic&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Michael Fulmer</a></strong> (1-0, 3.94) making that start.</p>
<p><strong>Dunedin 3, St. Lucie (</strong>18-23<strong>) 2</strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/geedi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dillon Gee</a></strong> was fantastic for the Mets going 6.1 scoreless giving up just three singles (one to rehabbing <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/i/izturma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Maicer Izturis</a></strong>) striking out five hitters and not allowing a Blue Jay touch 2nd base. Gee was repeatedly hitting 90-91 MPH on the gun and had a very good curveball working. He is clearly ready for the next step, big question is what that step will be and alot probably depends on how <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/syndeno01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Noah Syndergaard</a></strong> does tonight. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/blackvi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Vic Black</a></strong> came in to relieve Gee but his outing did not go as well giving up a run on two hits in only 0.2 of an inning. Black faced four batters and they all smoked the ball off him resulting in: deep fly out to RF, double down the left field line, RBI double of the top of the fence in CF, and a lineout to CF to end the inning. Black said he felt great with his fastball sitting around 92 and hit 95 MPH once they I heard. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=hepple000mic&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Mike Hepple</a></strong> came in to get the save with <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=morris001ake&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Akeel Morris</a></strong> needing a day off rest and immediately found trouble when <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=lovele000der&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Derrick Loveless</a></strong> hit a solo HR to start the bottom of the 9th. Two singles and a intentional walk later Hepple was faced with a bases loaded one-out situation. He was 3-0 on the hitter, got strike one called, then looked like he got strike two but homeplate ump Derek Gonzales called it a ball to end the game. Gonzales had an erratic strike zone all night that saw Met <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=evans-002phi&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Phillip Evans</a></strong> get tossed in the top of the 9th arguing a call.</p>
<p>Everyone in the St. Lucie lineup reached base at least once and 8 of them had a single hit but they went 1-14 with runners in scoring position leaving 9 runners on. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=smith-000dom&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dominic Smith</a></strong> hit his 8th double and 7th in his last 10 games. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=confor001mic&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Michael Conforto</a></strong> was 1-4 stretching his hitting streak to a modest 5 games. Phillip Evans knocked in <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=rosari000ame&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Amed Rosario</a></strong> with his 1st triple of the season in the 4th inning to give the Mets a 2-0 lead at the time. <strong><a href="https://stlucie.mets.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2015_05_21_sluafa_dunafa_1&amp;t=g_box&amp;did=milb&amp;sid=t507" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Box Score</a>. </strong>Rob Whalen (1-2, 2.50) takes the hill for St. Lucie as they play Dunedin again at 6:30</p>
<p><strong>Savannah (</strong>17-22<strong>) 2, Rome 0</strong></p>
<p>The Sand Gnats pitching was absolutely dominant as <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=meisne000cas&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Casey Meisner</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=griset001ben&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Ben Griset</a></strong>, and David RoseBOOM combined on a two-hit/15 strikeout shutout of the Braves. Happy 20th Birthday to Meisner who went 7 innings allowing just one hit and three walks while he struck out a season high 10 hitters. Meisner picked up his 3rd win of the year lowering his ERA to 1.93, WHIP to 1.07, and the league is now hitting .214 off him. Lefty Ben Griset pitched the 8th inning giving up a walk and a hit but ended up striking out the side for his 2nd hold. RoseBOOM pitched a perfect 9th with two strikeouts picking up his 3rd save and lowering his WHIP to 0.73 on the year.</p>
<p>Savannah scored the only two runs of the game in the 5th inning thanks to a wild pitch that plated <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/johnsjo08.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jonathan Johnson</a></strong> who tripled to start the inning and a RBI groundout from <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=guillo000lui&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Luis Guillorme</a></strong> that scored <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=leroux000jon&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jon Leroux</a></strong>. The Sand Gnats had only 4 hits on the night with <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=garcia000eud&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Eudor Garcia</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/player_search.cgi?results=rodrig003jea,rodrig006jea&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jean Rodriguez</a></strong> picking up one each while Johnson had two. <strong><a href="https://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2015_05_21_savafx_romafx_1&amp;t=g_box&amp;sid=t543" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Box Score</a>. </strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=prevos000jos&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Josh Prevost</a></strong> (1-4, 4.74) is coming off a career high 8-inning outing and pitches the 1st game of a double header as the Sand Gnats take on Rome for two. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=knapp-002ric&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Ricky Knapp</a></strong> (0-0, 3.18) will get the start in the 2nd game vs. Rome.</p>
<p>Yesterday Savannah officially announced this will be the last year at Grayson Stadium as the affiliate will be moving to Columbia, South Carolina next year. This move is renewing an old affiliate the Mets had in Columbia when the Capitol City Bombers played their from 1993-2004.</p>

<h3>Fresno 5, Las Vegas 1</h3>
<p>The Las Vegas 51&#8217;s couldn&#8217;t complete the minor league sweep Friday night, and also denied starting pitcher <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=verret000log&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Logan Verrett</a></strong></strong></strong> his first Triple-A win, as the Fresno Grizzlies defeat the 51&#8217;s 5-1.  Verrett (0-1, 3.97) lasted just 5.1 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits in the loss.  Las Vegas only mustered four hits against Fresno&#8217;s <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/berkeja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jason Berken</a></strong></strong></strong> and the Grizzlies bullpen shutdown the 51&#8217;s offense allowing just one base runner in three innings of work.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nieuwki01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kirk Nieuwenhuis</a></strong></strong></strong> drove in the lone run and has a hit in 6-of-7 games so far this season.  Las Vegas will look to rebound tonight against Fresno with veteran starting pitcher <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/matsuda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daisuke Matsuzaka</a></strong></strong></strong> (0-0, 5.40) on the hill. (box score)</p>
<h3>Binghamton 7, New Hampshire 0</h3>
<p><strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=burgam001bri&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brian Burgamy</a></strong></strong>&#8216;s</strong> solo home run in the fourth inning was all the Binghamton Mets needed, as they improve to 6-2 and move into first place by a half game in the Eastern Division, over the Reading Fightin Phils who were rained out Friday night.  Burgamy would add a second home run in the 8th inning with the game pretty much already out of hand thanks to a 4-run seventh.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=lara--001rai&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rainy Lara</a></strong></strong></strong> (2-0, 2.19) made his second start for the Mets and was superb.  Three hits was the only blemish on Lara&#8217;s line as he went seven scoreless while striking out three.  It should also be noted that the Mets&#8217; pitchers faced one over the minimum last night.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=pill--001tyl&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tyler Pill</a></strong></strong></strong> (0-1, 6.75) is the scheduled starter today for Binghamton as these two teams face-off again. (box score)</p>
<h3>St. Lucie 6, Fort Myers 3</h3>
<p>Thanks to a tie-breaking three-run eighth inning, the St. Lucie Mets downed the For Myers Miracle 6-3 at Tradition Field.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=matz--001ste&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Steven Matz</a></strong></strong></strong> (0-1, 3.27) started the game for the Mets and got a no-decision in his second start of the season.  Matz went six innings giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits but added six strikeouts.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=mitche002bre&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bret Mitchell</a></strong></strong></strong> came in and picked up the win in relief throwing two more scoreless innings, bringing his season total to 5.2 in three appearances.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=fontan001ran&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Randy Fontanez</a></strong></strong></strong> would pick up his first save of the season.  Outfielder <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=nimmo-000bra&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brandon Nimmo</a></strong></strong></strong> drove in two of the Mets runs on two hits all while bringing his season average up to .370.  Three more Mets would have multi-hit games.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=fulmer002mic&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Fulmer</a></strong></strong></strong> (0-1, 17.18) is the scheduled starter for St. Lucie today. (box score)</p>
<h3>Savannah 4, Rome 1</h3>
<p>For the second night in a row, <strong>Stefan Sabol</strong> would get the Sand Gnats on the board in the first inning.  The difference is last night it stayed in the yard and was a 2-run double, not a 3-run home run like Thursday night.  Savannah&#8217;s pitching would make that hold up behind a decent performance by starting pitcher <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=gsellm000rob&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Robert Gsellman</a></strong></strong></strong>.  Gsellman (1-1, 1.46) lasted seven innings allowing just one run on six hits while striking out six.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=frias-001dar&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Darwin Frias</a></strong></strong></strong> and <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=coles-002rob&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Robert Coles</a></strong></strong></strong> would come in and shut the door for good allowing one hit and no runs over two innings.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=cruzad000vic&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Victor Cruzado</a></strong></strong>&#8216;s</strong> two-run triple in the third inning would round out the scoring for the Sand Gnats who improve to 5-3.  <strong><strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=gant--000joh&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John Gant</a></strong></strong></strong> (1-0, 1.50) is the scheduled to get the start today for Savannah. (box score)</p>
<h3>Player of the Night</h3>
<p>With the exception of the Las Vegas game, it was a good night for the New York Mets minor league teams.  Rainy Lara was exceptional in his start and many others contributed in their respective teams victories, but it is Brian Burgamy who will take the player of the night honors.  Burgamy was 2-for-3 with two home runs, two RBI, and two runs scored.</p>

<p>While the Mets plethora of pitching prospects often receives the most attention, they have some talented offensive players in the minors as well. In an excellent article for the <strong><a href="https://nypost.com/2014/02/13/plawecki-nimmo-lead-mets-young-bats-into-camp/">New York Post</a></strong>, Fred Kerber spoke with <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=nimmo-000bra&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsminors.net" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brandon Nimmo</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=plawec000kev&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsminors.net" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kevin Plawecki</a></strong>– two young hitters about to enter their first big league camp.</p>
<p>Nimmo, the 13th pick in the 2011 draft, had a great season in 2013 for the Mets Low-A affiliate in Savannah. In 110 games for the Sand Gnats, the Wyoming native hit .273/.397/.359 with 24 extra base hits while manning centerfield defensively. For his efforts, the Mets rewarded him with a invite to Spring Training.</p>
<p>“I told my dad, ‘If it feels this good to get called to big league spring training, I can’t wait to get the call up to the big leagues,’ ” Nimmo told Kerber. “I’m going there to learn. I’ll keep my ears open, my mouth shut.”</p>
<p>Plawecki, a catcher drafted 35th overall in 2012, had perhaps the most impressive 2013 of any Mets hitting prospect. The Purdue University product hit .305/.390/.448 with a staggering 47 extra base hits– including 38 doubles– while splitting his season between Low-A Savannah and High-A St. Lucie. The slugging backstop will join Nimmo in camp.</p>
<p>“Hopefully I can learn from all the guys at the big league camp, soak in and absorb all the information I can, pick as many brains as I can,” Plawecki tells the Post. “In baseball, it’s who can be the most consistent the whole season and who can ride the highs and not get down on themselves during the lows.”</p>
<p>Paul DePodesta, Mets Vice President of Player Development and Scouting, spoke about his talented duo.</p>
<p>“We were thrilled with the year [Plawecki] had,” said DePodesta . “He played in two pretty difficult environments but certainly more than held his own, especially playing such a premium defensive position.”</p>
<p>“We’re excited to see what this year brings,” DePo says of Nimmo. “He’ll be a 20-year-old while he’s in major league camp. He continues to get better, stronger, filling out as he becomes a man physically.”</p>
<p>These two are part of an impressive group of hitters in the Mets minors that may be getting overlooked. As a fan, you have to love the attitude these guys are bringing with them to camp. Neither is talking about turning heads or making the team. They know they’re simply there to learn. Hopefully this taste of the Show gives them motivation to continue to work hard to attain their goals.</p>

<p><em>Hey everyone, enjoy this interview session with our Savannah Sand Gnats beat writer, Wally Murphy, who attended every single Savannah home game for us this year&#8230; Thanks, Wally&#8230; Joe D. </em></p>
<p><strong>The Sand Gnats had a tremendous first half, which led them to clinching the playoffs. After Plawecki and Boyd were promoted and left holes in the lineup, did you think they still had a chance to win the championship?</strong></p>
<p>When <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=plawec000kev&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kevin Plawecki</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=boyd--000jay&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jayce Boyd</a></strong> were promoted to St. Lucie, I did not believe the Savannah Sand Gnats would win the SAL Championship. My friends who attend the games did not believe it would happen either. It was incredible to see their success this season &#8212; which seemed to come against all odds.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-113853" alt="Brandon_Nimmo_Sn" src="https://metsmerizedonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Brandon_Nimmo_Sn.png" width="473" height="263" /></p>
<p><strong>There have been a lot of opinions (some negative, some positive) about Brandon Nimmo&#8217;s season. What are your thoughts on his 2013 performance and his development moving forward?</strong></p>
<p>During the first half of the season, <strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=nimmo-000bra&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brandon Nimmo</a></strong></strong>, was injured which impeded his progress. He improved the second half of the season. He played in 110 games and hit .273. Nimmo led the team in strikeouts with 131.  The second half of the season, pitchers adjusted and got Nimmo out numerous times on curve balls. He did a good job tracking down fly balls at spacious center field at Grayson Stadium. He is young and has time to work on his hitting.</p>
<p><strong>Savannah&#8217;s pitching staff was dominant all season&#8230;what aspect of their dominance impressed you the most?</strong></p>
<p>Savannah&#8217;s pitching was dominant all season. What was impressive was how consistently they pitched giving their team an opportunity to stay close and win a game.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-116777" alt="Jayce-Boyd" src="https://metsmerizedonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Jayce-Boyd1.jpg" width="480" height="270" /></p>
<p><strong>Who would you tab as the most valuable position player? Why?</strong></p>
<p>The most valuable position player was first baseman Jayce Boyd.  He appeared in 65 games during the first half and batted .361. It seemed every game he played, he picked 1-3 throws in the dirt helping the infielders avoid throwing errors. Boyd told me he practices fielding balls in the dirt. I definitely noticed the results throughout the season.</p>
<p><strong>Which player do you feel took the biggest step forward in their development?</strong></p>
<p>A player making great strides, <strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=delacr000mai&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Maikis De La Cruz</a></strong></strong>. He played all three outfield positions and only made three errors. In 96 games, he batted .261. He impressed quite a few people with his athleticism.</p>
<p><strong>Which player took the biggest step back in their development?</strong></p>
<p>One starter who had a rough season was shortstop <strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=evans-002phi&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Phillip Evans</a></strong></strong>. He batted .203 in 106 games and led the team with the most errors with 26. Evans did miss games with an injury, but he really struggled all throughout the year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-118219" alt="Gabe Ynoa" src="https://metsmerizedonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Gabe-Ynoa-1.jpg" width="480" height="270" /></p>
<p><strong>Who is your most valuable pitcher? Why?</strong></p>
<p>Without question, the most valuable pitcher was <strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=ynoa--001gab&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gabriel Ynoa</a></strong></strong> who won 15 games and lost just four. In 135.2 innings pitched, Ynoa struck out 108 and his ERA was 2.72.  He started two playoff games and won both and his ERA was 1.23. He was the most impressive pitcher on the staff this year.</p>
<p><strong>Which player do you think had the best season while flying under the radar?</strong></p>
<p>Reliever <strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=wheele000bec&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Beck Wheeler</a></strong></strong> had the best season flying under the radar. In 50.1 innings pitched, he struck out 74. The closer had 19 saves. His ERA was 2.32 all year and he anchored the bullpen for the Sand Gnats.</p>
<p><strong>What are you going to miss the most from this year&#8217;s team?</strong></p>
<p>While the pitching was dominant, the team hitting was inconsistent. Fans did not know if the team would get a few hits or 16 hits like they did in a playoff game against Augusta. However, this led to more excitement than anything else because Savannah pulled off a lot of unlikely victories. It was an exciting season following the Savannah Sand Gnats and I was thoroughly entertained.</p>

<p>The Mets announced that RHP <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/familje01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jeurys Familia</a></strong> will rejoin the team in time for their doubleheader today against the Marlins.</p>
<p>After undergoing surgery to remove bone spurs in his elbow last June, Familia has worked hard to get himself back to the big-league team. Going forward, Familia has put himself in line for a significant role in our 2014 bullpen.</p>
<p>During his string of rehab games in the minors, the young righty has pitched well, allowing just one earned run in 12.0 innings of work with a handful of strikeouts.</p>
<p>He looked really sharp for Savannah down the stretch, powering through a scoreless inning in yesterday’s big win with two punch-outs as the Sand Gnats became the South Atlantic League champions.</p>
<p>It is my hope that Familia settles down and hones his control so he can become a very successful reliever. Familia always projected more down the line as a bullpen guy in comparison to <strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mejiaje01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jenrry Mejia</a></strong></strong>, who had a better natural arsenal and command of his secondary pitches. Delegating Familia to a relief role is by no means a knock on him and he should be competing with <strong><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/blackvi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vic Black</a></strong></strong> for a spot at the back-end of the bullpen.</p>
<p>I’ve always liked his stuff and reports are that he’s still bringing the heat with late life since he started pitching in games again. Now, he&#8217;ll have a couple of weeks to get a leg-up on the competition for next year’s ‘pen.</p>

<h3><span style="color: #0000ff">Rome 4, Savannah 1</span></h3>
<p>The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 1,348 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Rome won the game 4-1 to even the series at 2-2. The Sand Gnats were held to just three hits while committing four errors, effectively giving them more errors than hits on the afternoon.</p>
<p>In the third inning, Rome scored when shortstop <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=luna--001ron&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ronald Luna</a></strong> singled and scored on a single by second baseman <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=hyams-000lev&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Levi Hyams</a></strong>. A sacrifice fly later in the inning allowed Hyams to score. In the bottom of the third, Savannah scored their only run on a home run by <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=sabol-001ste&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stefan Sabol</a></strong> over the left field fence, his second of the season. Leading off the sixth inning for the Braves, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=tewell000tyl&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tyler Tewell</a></strong> hit a home run over the right field fence, his second this season. Right fielder <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=marte-001fel&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Felix Marte</a></strong>l tripled and scored when the relay throw hit him and went into the Rome dugout.</p>
<p>Savannah starter <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=koch--001mat&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matt Koch</a> </strong>(1-2) lasted four innings, allowed two runs, one earned, while he gave up five hits and no walks. He struck out four.<br />
It was a nice attendance on Mother&#8217;s Day. Savannah travels to play at Charleston Monday evening.</p>

<h3 style="text-align: left" align="center"><span style="color: #0000ff">St. Lucie 6, Bradenton 5</span></h3>
<p>Jacob DeGrom started the game strong for St. Lucie by retiring the first eight batters that he faced, but he ran into trouble in the fourth inning.  DeGrom gave up three runs off four hits in the frame. He then gave up a home run to <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=garcia007wil&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Willy Garcia</a></strong> in the sixth that put St. Lucie behind 4-3.</p>
<p>However, the Mets were able to retake the lead due to some sloppy defense by the Bradenton Marauders. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=taijer000tra&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Travis Taijeron</a></strong> scored the tying run in the seventh on a fielding error. Then, in the ninth, Cam Maron reached base on an error, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and then scored on a dropped fly ball by the second baseman to put St. Lucie ahead. The Marauders committed six errors in the game.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, St. Lucie quickly gave back the lead in the bottom of the ninth.  T.J Chism recorded the first two outs of the inning, but gave up a fly ball that was just out of the reach of second baseman T.J Rivera that tied the game.</p>
<p>In the 12th, St. Lucie went ahead for good. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=thurbe000cha&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Charles Thurber</a></strong> scored the winning run on a force out, and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=bennet001ham&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hamilton Bennett</a></strong> picked up the save in the bottom of the inning.</p>
<p><b>Player Notes:</b></p>
<p>Jacob DeGrom pitched better than his line showed since many of the hits he gave up weren’t hit very hard.</p>
<p>T.J Rivera crushed a three run double off the CF wall for the first runs of the game, but he failed to come through twice with runners on third with less than 2 outs later in the game.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=rodrig001ade&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aderlin Rodriguez</a></strong> had a rough night at the plate going 0-6 with 2 K’s.</p>

<h3><span style="color: #0000ff">Rome 5, Savannah 2</span></h3>
<p>Savannah (4-4) jumped out to an early lead on a <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=plawec000kev&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kevin Plawecki</a></strong>&#8216;s RBI double in the top of the first. Rome (5-3) got the run right back in the bottom half of the first through an RBI single by <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=franco001car&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Carlos Franco</a></strong>. They took the lead in the second after an error by SS Phillips Evans with the bases loaded. Not to be outdone, the Sand Gnats evened the score in the top of the fourth on a double play with the bases loaded, which scored Kevin Plawecki. Plawecki had led off the inning with a double, one of two on the evening.</p>
<p>Rome took the lead for good with a three spot in the bottom of the fifth inning off Gnats starter <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=ynoa--001gab&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gabriel Ynoa</a></strong>, who failed to record an out in the fifth before being lifted. Ynoa would go four innings, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on eight hits and two walks. He did strike out four. The Gnats were kept in the game with stellar relief work by <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=mitche002bre&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bret Mitchell</a></strong> who pitched two perfect innings and they got a perfect inning each from <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=wheele000bec&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-metsmerizedonline.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Beck Wheeler</a></strong> and Tim Peterson.</p>
