The Salt River Rafters defeated the Scottsdale Scorpions 8-1 last night to improve their record to 5-5 (.500). Three Mets prospects had an at-bat in the game, and zero Mets prospects pitched in Saturday night’s contest. Below are the hitting statistics from Saturday night’s game. 

• Carlos Cortes – LF: 1-5, RBI, BB, 3K, R
• Wilmer Reyes – 2B: 0-5, BB, 3K, R
• Hayden Senger – C: 0-2, 2 BB, R

Wilmer Reyes batted first in the order and played second base. In five plate appearances, Reyes produced a walk and a run. However, after being walked in the second inning, Reyes stole his fourth base of the Arizona Fall League.

Later in the inning, Carlos Cortes, who got the start in left field, hit a single into left that scored Eric De La Rosa and moved Reyes to third. Next, Ryan Vilade singled on a line drive to second base to score Reyes and move Cortes to second, where he would be stranded. 

Hayden Senger, who caught seven innings, walked in the sixth inning and scored on another De La Rosa single. (It turned out to be a big night for the Tigers prospect as he got on base three times and knocked three runs in, including an eight-inning solo homer.)

Defensively, Reyes had no problems fielding second base, and neither did Cortes in an errorless game for the Salt River Rafters. Brett Baty, who cooled off in the second week of the AFL after hot first week, actually came in the game as a defensive substitute in the bottom of the eighth inning, but he didn’t get a chance to bat in the top of the ninth.

Overall, it was a somewhat quiet night for the Mets farm system. Nevertheless, Cortes and Reyes factored into the commanding win for the Salt River Rafters.

The Salt River Rafters will have their next game on Wednesday, October 27, at 9:30 p.m. EST.
