<p><strong>Updated Post &#8211; March 16, 10:33 AM</strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="https://twitter.com/martinonyc/status/1636370792429617152" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Andy Martino of SNY</a></strong> has reported that <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=diazed04,diazed03,diaz--005edw&amp;search=Edwin+Díaz&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-03-15_br" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Edwin Díaz</a></strong> will undergo an MRI on his right knee on Thursday, but one source has said initial indications are that Díaz&#8217;s injury is &#8220;bad.&#8221; Martino has also reported that people briefed on the situation fear that Díaz could miss a significant period, perhaps the entire 2023 season.</p>
<p>Martino notes that Díaz&#8217;s medical exam will take four-to-five hours to receive the results, meaning we could get an update just before or during the Mets&#8217; spring training game against the Nationals on Thursday.</p>
<p>If the results are inconclusive, then we may not get any news or update on Díaz until Friday. However, there is a fear that the injury is severe enough that it could require surgery rather than rehab.</p>
<p>If Díaz is out for a considerable amount of time, then<strong> <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/roberda08.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-03-16_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">David Robertson</a> </strong>and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/raleybr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-03-16_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Brooks Raley</a></strong> could move up the pecking order in terms of taking over save duties for the Mets. It is also worth noting that the <strong><a href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/mets-to-attend-zack-brittons-simulated-game-on-thursday/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mets will attend a simulated game and a showcase</a></strong> being thrown by lefty reliever <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/brittza01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-03-16_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Zack Britton</a></strong> on Thursday. Britton could become more of an attractive option if Díaz is out for a substantial amount of time.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll update once we have more news.</p>
<p><strong>Original Post &#8211; March 15, 10:49 PM</strong></p>
<p>Moments after <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=diazed04,diazed03,diaz--005edw&amp;search=Edwin+Díaz&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-03-15_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Edwin Díaz</a></strong> pitched the final out for Puerto Rico in their Pool D win over the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, the Mets closer appeared to badly injury his leg during the team&#8217;s celebration.</p>
<p>Díaz could visibly not put any weight on his leg, and needed to be helped into the tunnel with the assistance of a wheelchair.</p>
<p>https://twitter.com/MrMatthewCFB/status/1636192187737145350</p>
<p>Díaz&#8217;s brother, Reds pitcher <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/diazal03.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-03-15_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Alexis Díaz</a></strong>, was visibly moved to tears after watching his brother being helped into the dugout.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>Edwin Díaz pitched a perfect ninth inning for Puerto Rico before suffering the apparent injury, helping his team knock out the Dominican Republic and advance to the WBC quarterfinals. It goes without saying, but losing Díaz for any significant period of time would be a massive blow to the Mets&#8217; bullpen. Díaz re-signed with the team on a five-year, $102 million deal this offseason after collecting 32 saves with a 1.31 ERA a season ago.</p>
<p>If Díaz is unable to pitch, the Mets will likely be forced to turn to either <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/o/ottavad01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-03-15_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Adam Ottavino</a></strong> or <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/roberda08.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-03-15_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">David Robertson</a></strong> to be their primary closer.</p>

<p>Mets outfielder <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nimmobr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Brandon Nimmo</a></strong> is being considered day-to-day after an MRI on his left quadriceps muscle came back clean, the team announced.</p>
<p>The 29-year-old <strong><a href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/mets-lose-nimmo-to-injury-as-brewers-take-finale-6-0/">left Wednesday&#8217;s game</a></strong> in the first inning when felt discomfort in the quad. He said he originally felt it on a slide in the top of the inning, then in the bottom half, he pulled up on a fly ball to center, allowing <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mcneije01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jeff McNeil</a></strong> to make the catch instead.</p>
<p>He continued on toward the infield and left the game with an athletic trainer. He noted after the game, though, that he didn&#8217;t feel the injury was serious, and he didn&#8217;t expect to miss much time if any at all.</p>
<p>&#8220;If I catch things early, I feel I heal really fast,&#8221; Nimmo said after the game, noting the discomfort was already feeling better.</p>
<p>The team can ill-afford to lose Nimmo with just 11 games left in the season, including a vital series against the Braves next weekend in Atlanta. The team should do all they can to make sure he and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/martest01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Starling Marte</a></strong>, who is still recovering from a broken finger, are healthy and ready for that series. The team is playing just five games over the next eight days (including today), which should help in general with rest for the remainder of the lineup.</p>
<p>Nimmo has been a stalwart at the top of the Mets lineup so far this season. He&#8217;s played in 142 of the team&#8217;s 151 games, already a career-high. In those games, he&#8217;s produced a .264/.360/418/.778 slash line to go along with a 128 wRC+ and 4.7 fWAR. That WAR is third among center fielders behind only <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/judgeaa01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Aaron Judge</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=rodriju01,rodrig014jul,rodrig010jul&amp;search=Julio+Rodriguez&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Julio Rodriguez</a></strong>.</p>

<p>On Monday, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/degroja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jacob deGrom</a> </strong>was scheduled to undergo a second MRI on his ailing shoulder. Sidelined since being scratched from his final spring start after feeling discomfort in his pitching shoulder, subsequently landing on the IL to begin the season. His rotation-mates stepped up in his absence, leading New York to five consecutive series victories in April.</p>
<p>After the Mets 5-2 win on Monday night the Mets announced they would be releasing the results of deGrom&#8217;s MRI and CT scan.</p>
<p>The Mets revealed there is &#8220;considerable healing of the stress reaction of his scapula.&#8221;</p>
<p>DeGrom is cleared to begin loading and strengthening his shoulder wand will be &#8220;re-imaged in approximately three weeks.&#8221;</p>
<p>He will not begin throwing.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/scherma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Max Scherzer</a></strong> and company have compiled a 2.46 ERA, third-best in MLB, without their most prolific arm. Injuries have hindered deGrom&#8217;s successes, but there is no one better when he takes the mound. 2021 was another season cut short by arm troubles. Although, deGrom pitched to a 1.08 ERA in 15 starts with New York.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/2022/04/jacob-degrom-scratched-from-friday-start-getting-mri.html/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>initial MRI</strong> </a>back in early April revealed a stress reaction in the right shoulder. After a CT scan on Friday, today&#8217;s MRI provided medical staff a more detailed view inside the prized shoulder carrying Mets fans&#8217; World Series hopes.</p>
<p>In the manager&#8217;s presser before Monday night&#8217;s game, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/showabu99.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Buck Showalter</a></strong> had this to say regarding the latest findings, according to <a href="https://twitter.com/SNYtv/status/1518695830475231235" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>SNY</strong></a>.</p>

<p>Buck Showalter announced on Friday morning that Jacob deGrom had been scratched from his start today and that Felix Peña will take his place.</p>
<p>DeGrom is headed for an MRI on Friday morning around 9:30 a.m., and we will keep you posted with further details.</p>
<p><strong>ORIGINAL POST: 3/31/22, 21:55</strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/degroja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jacob deGrom</a> </strong>felt tightness in his right throwing shoulder while playing catch on Thursday, says manager Buck Showalter. The Mets have not officially announced anything but he is believed to be scratched from his scheduled start on Friday.</p>
<p>If he does not pitch, then he will undergo an MRI.</p>
<p>DeGrom last pitched on Sunday, March 27, against the St. Louis Cardinals. In it, deGrom threw three innings, allowed four hits, one run, and struck out five batters. This spring he&#8217;s thrown five innings across two starts, striking out 10 batters.</p>
<p>Any injury news is concerning but with deGrom the concern multiplies. He reported to camp feeling healthy after losing the back half of a record-breaking season to injury.</p>
<p>Prior to spring training, general manager Billy Eppler stated &#8220;I don&#8217;t have any reason to be (concerned),&#8221; about the star pitcher.</p>
<p>The two-time Cy Young winner said he&#8217;d be ready to go at the end of last season if the Mets were in a playoff hunt but his services were not needed. So Eppler&#8217;s statement was not much of a surprise.</p>
<p>DeGrom believes his injury last year was worsened due to the way his arm was positioned in an <strong><a href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/2022/03/jacob-degrom-has-no-restrictions-as-mets-camp-starts.html/">MRI machine</a></strong>. That MRI ended up revealing nothing more than a mild forearm strain.</p>
<p>Mets president Sandy Alderson referred to deGrom&#8217;s injury at that time as a partial ligament tear. After inflammation subsided it was revealed that deGrom&#8217;s ulnar collateral ligament was completely intact and he resumed throwing.</p>
<p>Over the last two seasons, deGrom missed time due to injuries to his elbow, lat, back, neck, shoulder, and forearm.</p>
<p>Last season, deGrom was shut down when he felt tightness in his forearm and he stopped throwing.</p>
<p>The hope for deGrom is the injury is nothing more than a minor tweak and he can resume his throwing regimen in time to not miss any time in the regular season. With the way his health has trended, that&#8217;s not any kind of guarantee.</p>

<p>New York Mets ace <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/degroja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jacob deGrom</a></strong> talked to reporters on Thursday afternoon about the back tightness that led him to get an MRI. The MRI showed nothing that concerned the Mets and they consider him day-to-day.</p>
<p>DeGrom left an intrasquad game on Tuesday after one inning after telling trainers he felt like his back couldn&#8217;t loosen up. The back-to-back <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/y/youngcy01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cy Young</a></strong> winner said he was being overly cautious, &#8220;If it was a regular season game, I wouldn&#8217;t have said anything.&#8221;</p>
<p>He described the tightness as &#8220;out of the blue&#8221; and could&#8217;ve been from simply sleeping wrong. The 32-year-old noted that he still expects to pitch on Opening Day against the Braves next Friday.</p>
<p>DeGrom is slated to pitch on Sunday in the Mets exhibition game against the Yankees. He said he would like to get to 60-65 pitches in that game, which would likely mean about an 85-pitch limit in his first start of the regular season.</p>
<p>The right-hander had a 2.05 ERA and and 524 strikeouts in 421 innings over the past two seasons.</p>

<p><strong>Update &#8211; 3:15 PM</strong></p>
<p>Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the MRI on Jacob deGrom&#8217;s back showed nothing that concerned the Mets.</p>
<p>The ace is considered day-to-day after pulling himself with back tightness from his outing on Tuesday.</p>
<p>DeGrom is supposed to start on Opening Day vs the Braves on July 24.</p>
<p><strong>Original &#8211; 1:37 PM</strong></p>
<p>Mets manager <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=rojas-010lui,rojas-007lui&amp;search=Luis+Rojas&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Luis Rojas</a></strong> announced that <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/degroja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jacob deGrom</a></strong> will get an MRI on his back on Wednesday. DeGrom left his start on Tuesday after only one inning because of back tightness.</p>
<p>Rojas noted that he hadn&#8217;t talked to deGrom yet on Wednesday and that the back-to-back <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/y/youngcy01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cy Young</a></strong> winner actually hit triple digits on the gun in that one inning. The first-year manager considers the right-hander as day-to-day pending results of the MRI.</p>
<p>DeGrom does have a history of back tightness during camps, he had the same issue in 2016 and 2018.</p>
<p>The Mets rotation took a hit in the offseason when <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wheelza01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zack Wheeler</a></strong> signed with the Phillies and another big blow came when they found out <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/syndeno01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Noah Syndergaard</a></strong> needed <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/johnto01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tommy John</a></strong> surgery.</p>
<p>Behind deGrom, the Mets currently have <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stromma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Marcus Stroman</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/matzst01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Steven Matz</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/porceri01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rick Porcello</a></strong>, and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wachami01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Michael Wacha</a></strong> rounding out the rotation.</p>
<p>Rojas was asked about the versatility of right-hander <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lugose01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Seth Lugo</a></strong>, and he made his opinion clear, &#8220;Seth Lugo is in our bullpen.&#8221;</p>

<p>Mets fans, this is the third injury article I&#8217;m writing and Spring Training isn&#8217;t even over yet.</p>
<p>First there was <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lugose01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Seth Lugo</a></strong> and <a href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/2020/02/seth-lugo-suffers-fractured-pinky-toe.html/">his pinky toe</a>. Then there was <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=davisjd01,davis-000jd-&amp;search=J.D.+Davis&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">J.D. Davis</a></strong> and <a href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/2020/02/j-d-davis-taken-out-of-game-will-have-mri-on-shoulder.html/">his shoulder</a>. Then there was <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nimmobr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Brandon Nimmo</a></strong> and <a href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/2020/02/mets-scratch-brandon-nimmo-for-cardiac-screening.html/">his heart</a>. Now there is <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/confomi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Michael Conforto</a></strong> and his side.</p>
<p>According to <a href="https://twitter.com/timbhealey/status/1237170606908604418?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Newsday&#8217;s</strong></a> Tim Healey, Conforto tweaked his side while making a catch in right field during Monday&#8217;s game. He got an MRI in Florida and whereas we do not know what that showed, we do know that he is being sent back to New York to meet  with the Met&#8217;s medical director, Dr. David Altchek.</p>
<p>This news came hours after Monday&#8217;s game finished.</p>
<p>Hopefully, Conforto&#8217;s injuries follows the rest that have happened so far this Spring Training and is minor.</p>
<p>In 2019, Conforto hit .257/.363/.494, which was an improvement from his 2018 line (.243/.350/.448). He also improved his strikeout rate, bringing it down to 23% and held a 13% walk rate.</p>
<p>And let&#8217;s not forget how great he has been defensively, especially in the corners. It will be a loss for the Mets if this is serious.</p>
<p>I still believe that the 2020 season can be Conforto&#8217;s &#8220;<a href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/2020/02/michael-conforto-needs-a-silence-the-haters-season.html/">silence the haters</a>&#8221; season, as long as he is back asap and stays healthy.</p>

<p>Good morning, Mets fans!</p>
<h4><span style="color: #ff6600">Latest Mets News</span></h4>
<p>Edwin Diaz threw <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1229819778954670080">live batting practice</a> </strong>to Matt Adams, Eduardo Nunez, and Jed Lowrie.</p>
<p>Rick Porcello also threw his <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1229876008272220161">first live bullpen session</a></strong> as a Met.</p>
<p>Seth Lugo will be <a href="https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1229863245164564482"><strong>shut down</strong></a> for at least a few days and will miss the beginning of the Grapefruit League season due to a pinky toe fracture.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #0000ff">Latest MLB News</span></h4>
<p>The San Francisco Giants are <a href="https://twitter.com/chipfranklin/status/1229772972333858816"><strong>excluding</strong></a> Aubrey Huff from their 2010 World Series reunion due to his &#8220;unacceptable&#8221; behavior and comments on Twitter.</p>
<p>Commissioner Rob Manfred once again <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/KyleNYY/status/1229913827942305792">commented</a></strong> on the Astros&#8217; cheating scandal, saying that the team was indeed cheating during their 2017 World Series run and apologizing for referring to the World Series trophy as just a piece of metal.</p>
<p>Basketball superstar Lebron James shared his thoughts on Manfred&#8217;s incompetence <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/KingJames/status/1229894652234321920">here</a> </strong>and <a href="https://twitter.com/KingJames/status/1229895410426118144"><strong>here</strong></a>.</p>
<p>The Red Sox agreed to a <a href="https://twitter.com/ChrisCotillo/status/1229737823378530305"><strong>deal</strong></a> with two-time All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy. Lucroy will serve as a depth option behind Christian Vazquez and former Met Kevin Plawecki.</p>
<p>The Astros are being <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/BillShaikin/status/1229808158412918784">sued</a> </strong>by their own season-ticket holders for &#8220;deceptively overcharging.&#8221;</p>
<p>Utility-man Chase d&#8217;Arnaud, brother of former Met Travis d&#8217;Arnaud, officially <a href="https://twitter.com/chasedarnaud/status/1229590246456643584"><strong>announced</strong></a> his retirement from baseball in a video.</p>
<p>The Red Sox and Padres are reportedly <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/mlbtraderumors/status/1229829350226305024">negotiating</a> </strong>a deal involving Wil Myers.</p>

<p>The Mets did not receive good news today from <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/canoro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Robinson Cano</a></strong>’s MRI. The MRI revealed a torn hamstring, which will likely sideline the veteran second baseman for many weeks.  (<a href="https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1158526750256783363"><strong>Anthony DiComo, MLB.com</strong></a>)</p>
<p>Matt Ehalt of <a href="https://twitter.com/MattEhalt/status/1158525486382952449"><strong>Yahoo Sports</strong></a> adds that no surgery is required, but there is no timetable for a return.</p>
<p>Cano injured his hamstring during Sunday’s game against the Pirates. Though Cano had a disappointing season overall, he was 9-for-15 over his last four games.</p>
<p>It’s a terrible development for Cano, who is batting .252/.295/.415 with ten homeruns and 32 RBI in his first season with the Mets.</p>
<p>Cano made a strong first impression with a homerun off <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/scherma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Max Scherzer</a></strong> in his first at-bat as a Met, but not much has gone right since. Cano’s .252 average and .710 OPS are the lowest marks of his 15-year career.</p>
<p>The 36-year-old second baseman owns a career .302 batting average with 321 home runs and 1265 RBI. In his last season with the Mariners, he posted a .303 batting average with a .845 OPS, despite being limited to 80 games due to a PED suspension.</p>
<p>The Mets acquired Cano, along with <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=diazed04,diazed03,diaz--005edw&amp;search=Edwin+Diaz&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Edwin Diaz</a></strong>, in the trade that involved <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=keleni000jar&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jarred Kelenic</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=dunn--000jus&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Justin Dunn</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bruceja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jay Bruce</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/swarzan01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Anthony Swarzak</a></strong>.</p>

<p>Good Morning Mets Fans!!</p>
<p>Today, Chris Flexen will make his first start if the year in place of <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/degroja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jacob deGrom</a></strong>, who was placed on the IL yesterday. The Mets will look to win their first series since sweeping the Marlins during the first week of April.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mikolmi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Miles Mikolas</a></strong> will take the hill for the Cards. The game is at 2:15 p.m. and can be viewed on WPIX 11 and WBCS 880.</p>
<p>Good News: Vargas had his best start of the season, an encouraging outing in which he only allowed one run</p>
<p>Bad News: Four innings of one-run ball is not a good start for literally any other starter in baseball. Vargas lowered his ERA by four runs before handing the ball off to <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lugose01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Seth Lugo</a></strong> to start the fifth inning.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, on the offensive side, the Mets tagged <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wainwad01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Adam Wainwright</a></strong> for four early runs before knocking him out in the fourth inning. Two innings later, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/alonspe01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pete Alonso</a></strong> extended the Mets lead with a 432-foot blast. He&#8217;s now the MLB leader in barrels with 14.</p>

<h4><span style="color: #3366ff"><strong><span style="color: #0000ff">Latest Mets News</span> </strong></span></h4>
<p>Stay Calm #PanicCity!! It&#8217;s merely an MRI&#8230;we hope. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/callami01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mickey Callaway</a></strong> stunned MetsTwitter and the rest of the baseball world when he <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/timbhealey/status/1119345615778058241?s=20">reported</a></strong> that deGrom was slated for an MRI after his elbow was barking mad. The Mets eventually placed him on the IL, although they claimed this was only precautionary.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/alonspe01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pete Alonso</a></strong> would participate in the Home Run Derby if given the chance per Tim Healey of <strong><a href="https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/pete-alonso-home-run-derby-1.29962279">Newsday</a></strong>.</p>

<p>Mark Feinsand of <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/Feinsand/status/1119315668770406400">MLB.com</a> </strong>hears that <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/gonzagi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Gio Gonzalez</a></strong> plans to opt-out of his minor-league deal with the Yankees.</p>
<p>Gonzalez makes a ton of sense for the Mets, whose rotation depth is lacking. Gonzalez also recently hired CAA, Brodie Van Wagenen&#8217;s former agency, to <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/Feinsand/status/1119266410507702272">represent</a></strong> him.</p>
