Ewing continued his scorching start to the year with another impressive week. Ewing went 6-for-18 with two home runs, a triple, seven walks and four stolen bases. He drove in four runs and scored five runs, both team highs for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. In 18 games, Ewing has an outstanding 1.052 OPS.

Following Ewing’s impressive week, he was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday morning.

Elian Peña has continued a great start to the season, too, as one of the youngest players in the minors. He collected another six hits this week and two steals this week, bringing his season totals to a .916 OPS and nine steals in 19 games.

Triple-A Syracuse

The Syracuse Mets lost their series last week to the Worcester Red Sox, dropping four of the six games. Syracuse won game one of the series 12-3 but were unable to do much else in the other five games. The Mets are now 13-13 and in fourth place in the International League East division.

Ronny Mauricio had limited action this series, playing in two games, but he made his presence known. Mauricio went 3-for-8 with all three of his hits leaving the yard. Mauricio drove in five runs and scored four runs while walking twice. Now with the major league team in Francisco Lindor‘s absence, Mauricio’s Triple-A OPS for now stands at .987.

Ryan Clifford continued his power streak by hitting two more home runs and also driving in eight runs, a team high for the series. Clifford, however, went just 5-for-23 in the series with 11 strikeouts. He owns a .769 OPS.

Nick Morabito, Ji Hwan Bae, and Cristian Pache all performed well in the series, each recording an OPS over .900.

Morabito went 6-for-21 with two doubles, a home run, seven walks and two stolen bases

Bae went 8-for-19 with a double, four walks and two stolen bases

Pache went 10-for-25 with three doubles, a walk, and a stolen base

Jonah Tong made two solid starts, totaling four runs allowed over 10 innings. Tong struck out 15 batters as he lowered his ERA through six starts to 5.68.

Bryce Conley also had a decent start, though he dealt with a lot of traffic. He allowed four hits and six walks in just four innings of work, but he limited the damage to just a run while striking out two. He has a 4.22 ERA in three starts.

Dakota Hawkins looked sharp in a three-inning stint out of the bullpen, allowing just a walk and no hits with four strikeouts. This was Hawkins’ first Triple-A appearance this year after having already appeared in High-A and Double-A.

Marco Vargas.
Double-A Binghamton

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies also dropped their series this past week to the Erie SeaWolves, losing four of six games. After losing the first three games of the series, Binghamton was able to rebound and win two of the final three games. The Rumble Ponies are now 8-12 and tied for fourth place in the Eastern League Northeast division.

Marco Vargas, whose stock has fallen tremendously over the past few years, broke out with a good week. Vargas went 7-for-17 with two doubles, a triple, four walks and three stolen bases. He still has just a .636 OPS on the year.

Nick Lorusso also impressed, going 4-for-13 with a double, triple and a home run. Lorusso has otherwise been off to a really slow start to the year, owning a .678 OPS.

Zach Thornton delivered Binghamton’s best start of the series, firing six innings with two runs allowed and six strikeouts. Thornton has been great after missing most of the 2025 season due to injury. He has a 2.76 ERA in his first three starts of the season.

Brendan Girton looked good on the mound, allowing a run over five innings. Girton allowed two hits and three walks while striking out five. He has a 4.02 ERA on the year.

Ronald Hernandez.
High-A Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Cyclones had a rough week, dropping five of six games to the Hudson Valley Renegades. The Cyclones have had a brutal start to the season and are now sitting at 5-15 and in last place in the South Atlantic League North division.

Corey Collins had a breakout week, recording two home runs including one off of Gerrit Cole. Collins went 4-for-16 and also added a double and two walks. He has a .798 OPS through 15 games.

Kevin Villavicencio also contributed, going 4-for-11 with a home run, a walk and two stolen bases. He’s had a slower start to the year, owning a .663 OPS.

Ronald Hernandez led the team with six hits in 21 at-bats, recording four doubles, two walks and two stolen bases. Despite a batting average of .214, he has his OPS up to .732.

Channing Austin looked phenomenal in two starts, allowing no runs in 9 1/3 innings with 11 strikeouts. He allowed five hits and four walks while lowering his ERA through four starts to 1.62.

Dylan Ross started two games as an opener in a rehab assignment and he looked great, firing two perfect innings with a strikeout. Those were Ross’ first two appearances for Brooklyn this year.

Cristofer Gomez was the standout arm out of the bullpen as he allowed no runs in three innings across two appearances. Gomez allowed two hits and three walks while striking out four. His ERA is now 1.04 through seven appearances.

Low-A St. Lucie

The St. Lucie Mets lost four of their six games to the Palm Beach Cardinals this past week. Pitching was an issue as the Mets allowed 52 runs in six games. St. Lucie is now 10-11 and in third place in the Florida State League East division.

Randy Guzman‘s fast start to the year continued as he went 7-for-19 this series with three doubles, a home run and four walks. Guzman has an .888 OPS through 20 games.

Sam Biller impressed at the plate, going 7-for-19 with two doubles, three walks and four stolen bases. Biller, originally signed by the Mets as an undrafted free agent, owns an .893 OPS in 11 games.

Branny De Oleo had a great week as well, going 5-for-13 with a home run, a walk and two stolen bases. Unlike Guzman, De Oleo has mostly struggled this year and owns a .694 OPS.

Nicolas Carreno was outstanding in two appearances, including one start. He totaled just one run allowed in eight innings on two hits and three walks. He also struck out 10 and he now has a 2.25 ERA through five appearances (three starts).

Jose Chirinos has also shone early in the year and did so again in this series. Chirinos allowed a run in 4 2/3 innings, striking out six. He owns a 2.45 ERA in four appearances (three starts).

Frank Camarillo also gave the Mets a solid start, allowing two runs in five innings. He allowed five hits and a walk while striking out five. He owns a 4.41 ERA in four starts.

Players of the Week

Offense – A.J. Ewing, 2B/OF Binghamton

A.J. Ewing broke out as one of the Mets’ top prospects in 2025 with a fantastic season, and he’s already outperforming himself this year. The 21-year-old has an OPS over 1.000 and has now earned a promotion to the final level of the minors before the major leagues. If he can continue to dominate in Syracuse, he may be a contributor in Flushing before long.

Pitching – Channing Austin, P Brooklyn

Channing Austin is enjoying a great start to the season in Brooklyn after a relatively underwhelming 2025 (4.38 ERA in 21 appearances) in St. Lucie. Austin, 24, is certainly older than most of the competition he’s facing, but it’s good to see him have success after not having much last year.

Upcoming Schedule – April 28-May 3

Triple-A Syracuse: vs. Lehigh Valley

Double-A Binghamton: @ New Hampshire

High-A Brooklyn: vs. Frederick

It’s been a slow start to the season in the Mets’ minor leagues, as three of the organization’s four minor league affiliates have losing records. But that doesn’t mean all is bad. Two of the highlights of the early season so far are Elian Peña and Chris Suero. Suero leads the organization in OPS early on and has looked like one of the best position players on the farm, and Peña is impressing as one of the youngest players in minor-league baseball.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets dropped a series against the Buffalo Bisons this past week, winning two of the six-game set. The Mets dropped both ends of a doubleheader to begin the series before salvaging the rest of the set by splitting the final four games. Syracuse is 7-8 through their first 15 games.

Offense was hard to come by for Syracuse against Buffalo. Cristian Pache had perhaps the most success at the plate, going 4-for-17 with a single, double, triple and a home run. He also stole a base and drove in two runs, which tied a team-high for the series. Pache has been off to a pretty slow start overall, owning a .639 OPS through 12 games.

Nick Morabito was the only other Met to record a home run in the series, and he also tied Pache with two runs driven in. Morabito went 4-for-17 with the home run, also walking once. Morabito owns an .844 OPS through his first 12 games at Triple-A.

Christian Scott looked excellent in his second start of the year, tossing five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Scott allowed just two hits, a walk, and hit a batter in what was a major improvement from his first start of the year.

Jonah Tong had a solid start, allowing two runs in five innings with seven strikeouts. Tong allowed just one hit, two walks, and a hit batter as he now owns a 5.06 ERA through three starts.

Jack Wenninger continues to look impressive in his first Triple-A action. In his start against Buffalo, Wenninger allowed two runs (one earned) in 4 2/3 innings. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out five. Wenninger has a 1.00 ERA in two starts.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies won their first six-game series of the season, defeating the Somerset Patriots four games to two. Like Syracuse, Binghamton also started off the series with a doubleheader, which the Rumble Ponies swept before splitting the final four games of the series. The Rumble Ponies are 5-3 in the early going.

Binghamton’s bats were hot in their series against Somerset. Chris Suero led the way, going 5-for-16 with two home runs, five RBIs, six walks and three stolen bases. Suero also added a double and scored six runs. The versatile Suero, who broke out in 2025, is continuing his ascension early this season as he owns a 1.258 OPS in six games.

Jose Ramos also had an excellent week, going 5-for-15 with two home runs, seven RBIs, five walks and a stolen base. Ramos also scored a team-high seven runs. The 25-year-old has a .909 OPS in six games this year.

A.J. Ewing and Wyatt Young also contributed on offense for Binghamton. Ewing had a great series, going 6-for-17 with three doubles, six walks and two stolen bases. He owns a 1.067 OPS through seven games. Young went 5-for-15 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. Young also walked three times. His OPS through six games is .890.

On the mound:

Bryce Conley had an excellent start, allowing no runs in four innings on four hits, a walk, a hit batter and six strikeouts. Conley, who spent 2025 in the Nationals organization, has a 1.29 ERA in two appearances (one start).

Zach Thornton also impressed in his start, making his first appearance since missing most of the 2025 season due to injury. He allowed just a run in 5 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and a walk with four strikeouts. His ERA through one start is 1.69.

Jordan Geber tossed four scoreless innings across two outings, one of which was a start. Geber allowed just five baserunners and struck out four batters. These were his first two appearances of the year, so he has yet to allow a run.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones fell four games to two to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws this past week. Brooklyn dropped each of the first three games of the series before taking two of the final three. They are off to a 2-6 start to the year.

The Cyclones’ series against the BlueClaws was a tough one from an offensive standpoint. Corey Collins had the best numbers despite going just 4-for-16 with a triple. He drove in two runs and scored a run of his own. In five games, Collins, who has either struggled or been injured for most of his professional career, has a .604 OPS.

Mitch Voit also had pedestrian numbers, but they stand out compared to his teammates. The Mets’ 2025 first-round pick went 6-for-21 with two doubles, two walks and a stolen base. Voit has just a .614 OPS through seven games.

The team’s pitching, while not stellar, certainly fared better than the offense. Irving Cota was the star of the pitching staff for the week. Cota made two appearances, including a start, and he tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, two walks, a hit batter and struck out three.

Noah Hall and Channing Austin delivered decent starts for the team. Hall allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings with five strikeouts, while Austin allowed one run in four innings with four strikeouts. Hall has a 3.86 ERA through two starts and Austin has a 2.25 ERA after his lone start of the year.

Juan Arnaud and Parker Carlson were excellent out of the bullpen. Arnaud threw three hitless innings with a walk and four strikeouts across two outings, while Carlson was perfect over two innings with five strikeouts in his lone outing. Both pitchers still have a 0.00 ERA.

Elian Pena.
Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets had an interesting week, having a game suspended and then resumed later in the week, while also playing another doubleheader all due to rain. It was a tough week for St. Lucie, who dropped four of six games to the Dunedin Blue Jays. The Mets are 4-5 to begin the year.

Elian Peña continues to be very impressive early in his stateside career. The Mets’ prized prospect went 6-for-18 with a double, a home run, two walks and two stolen bases. Peña drove in two runs and scored two of his own. Through eight games, Peña owns a stellar .933 OPS.

AJ Salgado, an undrafted free agent the Mets signed in 2025, has also been off to a torrid start in 2026. Salgado had a fantastic week, going 9-for-20 with a double and three walks. Salgado drove in three runs and scored five. He has a .911 OPS through his first nine games of the season.

JT Benson, who the Mets signed out of independent ball, and Sam Robertson, who the Mets drafted in the 17th round in 2025, also impressed in the first full series of the season. Benson went 6-for-11 with two doubles, a triple and a stolen base. His OPS through six games is 1.167. Robertson went 7-for-17 with a team-high eight RBIs and a team-high six stolen bases, all without getting caught. Robertson has an .830 OPS through seven games.

Pitching was the reason for St. Lucie’s lack of success in this series. The best start of the six games came from Omar Victorino, who allowed three runs (one earned) in four innings. He struck out four through his outing and has a 2.57 ERA through two appearances this season.

Out of the bullpen, A.J. Neither allowed a run as they both work their way back to full speed.

Tyler McLoughlin looked great out of the bullpen, throwing 2 2/3 hitless innings in his lone appearance. McLoughlin, who the Mets selected in the 10th round in 2025, has a 6.23 ERA in two appearances.

Players of the Week

Offense – Chris Suero, C/1B/LF Binghamton

Chris Suero has only gotten better as he spends more time in the Mets’ system. The 22-year-old is off to a scorching start in 2026 after a successful 2025 campaign. His biggest struggles a year ago came in Binghamton, so it’s a great sign to see him look more comfortable early in the season. Continuing this level of play could have him in Syracuse before too long.

Pitching – Irving Cota, P Brooklyn

Irving Cota is a pitcher who flies under the radar in the Mets’ system, but he has been solid for a few years now. He had a down 2025, but he’s off to a great start in 2026. The 22-year-old threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings in his first appearance of the season before getting a start and tossing three more scoreless innings.

It’s time for the first Mets Minors Weekly Report of the season! Each of the Mets’ four full-season minor league affiliates is now underway in their 2026 campaigns.

Last year was a resounding success for the Mets’ minor league affiliates, with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Brooklyn Cyclones each winning their respective league championships. We’ll see if that success continues in 2026.

Jackson Cluff.
Triple-A Syracuse

The Mets’ Triple-A squad has been in action for the longest amount of time so far, playing one three-game series and one six-game series. Syracuse took two of three games from the Worcester Red Sox before splitting a series with the Toledo Mud Hens to give them a 5-4 record through nine games.

Catcher Hayden Senger has been the biggest offensive surprise for Syracuse so far. Through five games, Senger is 7-for-17 with three home runs, seven RBIs, and five runs. Senger had just five home runs in 237 at-bats across Triple-A and the majors in 2025, so he’s already showing a major spike in power. He has a 1.474 OPS in the early going.

Nick Morabito has looked very comfortable in his first Triple-A action of his career. In seven games, he’s tied with the team lead with nine hits in 27 at-bats. He has a home run, two doubles, and two stolen bases. Morabito, our no. 13 prospect in the Mets’ system, will be turning 23 next month. Morabito sports an impressive .938 OPS.

Jackson Cluff has been another welcome addition to the Syracuse Mets after spending 2025 with the Nationals’ Triple-A squad. In nine games to start the season, Cluff is 6-for-23 with two home runs, two doubles, and a team-high six runs. The only major concern is a lopsided 9:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio to begin the year. Cluff owns a .901 OPS to begin the year.

Carl Edwards Jr., a veteran addition by the Mets this offseason, has made two starts for Syracuse so far. He hadn’t previously started games since 2014 in the minor leagues and never started a game in the majors. Edwards Jr. has tossed a total of nine innings with three runs allowed and eight strikeouts. He owns a 3.00 ERA early on.

Jack Wenninger had a promising start in his first Triple-A start of his career. MMO’s No. 7-ranked prospect tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Wenninger was sensational in 2025, going 12-6 with a 2.92 ERA across a full season in Binghamton.

Austin Warren and Anderson Severino were the highlights out of the bullpen during the opening week of the season, with neither surrendering a run. Warren struck out six and allowed just a hit and a walk in five innings across four appearances, while Severino allowed two hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings across three appearances.

Chris Suero
Photo by Ed Delany of Metsmerized

Double-A Binghamton

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies have played just two games so far, with one game in their opening three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats postponed due to weather. Binghamton is 1-1 with a 10-9 win and a 2-1 loss.

The sample size is very small, but there have been some impressive performances from the opening pair of games. Chris Suero is just 1-for-5, but he has the team’s only home run and an impressive five RBIs. He has also scored a pair of runs, tied for the team lead. Suero impressed with a .786 OPS across two levels in 2025 and a .920 OPS in 15 games during the Arizona Fall League.

A.J. Ewing has had arguably the best start on the team, however. Ewing has started the year 4-for-9 with a double, two walks, and two stolen bases. Ewing, MMO’s No. 4-ranked Mets prospect, is coming off a breakout 2025 campaign and a very impressive spring training.

Eli Serrano is looking for a bounce back after a rough 2025 season, and he’s off to a good start. Serrano is 3-for-7 with two doubles and a triple. He has also walked three times and struck out just once.

Will Watson and Brendan Girton have each made starts for Binghamton. Watson went just three innings on Opening Day, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Girton had a better go of it, allowing a run in 3 1/3 innings on no hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.

Several relievers have begun the season with scoreless outings. Matt Turner and Zach Peek each went two innings without allowing a run, while Carlos Guzman went 1 2/3 innings without allowing a run.

Photo by Ed Delany of Metsmerized

High-A Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Cyclones have also played just two games so far, with one of their three games against the Hudson Valley Renegades also postponed due to weather. Brooklyn dropped both of their first two games, 3-1 and 8-1.

Offense was hard to come by in the first two games, but a couple of players stood out. John Bay went 2-for-3 with the team’s only home run. Bay had an excellent, albeit brief, 2025 season across two levels with the Mets, recording an .874 OPS in 27 games after signing as an undrafted free agent.

Antonio Jimenez, the Mets’ 2025 third-round pick, also recorded two hits in the first two games. He went 2-for-6 with a double, two walks, and a stolen base. These first two games were the first above the Low-A level for Jimenez.

Noah Hall and Wyatt Hudepohl each made a start for the Cyclones. Hall was neither stellar nor awful, allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings on three hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. Hudepohl, making his first appearance since 2024 after missing the entire 2025 season, struggled with six runs allowed in 3 1/3 innings. It was just the ninth career professional appearance for Hudepohl, who will look to stay healthy and find his footing this year.

Bryce Jenkins and Brett Banks both looked solid out of the bullpen. Jenkins tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his season debut, allowing a hit and striking out two. Banks, coming off an excellent 2025 season across three levels, threw 1 1/3 hitless innings, allowing just a walk and striking out three.

Low-A St. Lucie

The St. Lucie Mets were fortunately able to get all three of their games in from their opening series, and they won two of them against the Palm Beach Cardinals.

Despite winning the series, the bats were not hot for St. Lucie. However, the hottest bat was the most notable name on the team, Elian Peña. Making his stateside debut, Peña, our No. 10 ranked Mets prospect, went 4-for-12 in the three games with two doubles, two walks, a stolen base, and an RBI. The Mets’ prized international prospect completely jumped the Florida Complex League after recording a .949 OPS in the Dominican Summer League in 2025. He won’t turn 19 until October.

Julio Zayas also had an impressive first week. After spending the last two years in the Florida Complex League, he started off his Low-A career by going 5-for-13 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Cam Tilly, the Mets’ seventh-round pick in last summer’s draft, had a brilliant pro debut. The Auburn product tossed five hitless innings, allowing just one walk with six strikeouts. The other two starts in the series from Frank Camarillo (3.1 IP, 2 ER) and Nicolas Carreno (2.1 IP, ER) were more brief and not nearly as impressive as Tilly’s outing.

Out of the bullpen, Conner Ware also had an impressive professional debut. The Mets’ 15th-round pick from last summer went three scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with four strikeouts.

Players of the Week

Offense – Hayden Senger, C Syracuse

Senger is an important player for the Mets. The de facto No. 3 catcher in the organization, he’s experienced the major leagues and has plenty of experience in Triple-A. He’s never been an offensive threat, evidenced by his career .685 OPS across eight minor league seasons, but his bat has been on fire to start this season. If he can improve even slightly offensively, the Mets will begin to feel much better about their catcher depth.

Pitching – Cam Tilly, P St. Lucie

Cam Tilly recorded an ERA above 6.00 in his two collegiate seasons at Auburn. The Mets clearly saw something they liked enough to take him in the seventh round of the 2025 draft, and he already looks fantastic. Of course, it would be foolish to overreact to just one start, but if he can have a solid season in St. Lucie, the Mets will have another exciting pitching prospect who has developed nicely in their system.

Upcoming Schedule – April 7-12

Triple-A Syracuse: @ Buffalo

Double-A Binghamton: vs. Somerset

High-A Brooklyn: @ Jersey Shore

Low-A St. Lucie: vs. Dunedin

Triple-A

After losing the first two games of their series against the Worcester Red Sox, the Syracuse Mets managed to split the series 3-3. Syracuse won three consecutive games following their back-to-back losses but were shut out in the series’ final game. In the second half of the season, the Mets are 7-5 and in third place in the International League East division. Overall, the team’s record is 53-33.

Luke Ritter had a strong week at the plate, going 6-for-18 with a home run in five games played. Ritter also hit a triple, his first of the year, had three walks, and scored four runs. Ritter has been slugging all year for Syracuse and he leads all of the Mets minor leagues in home runs. His OPS on the season is .842.

Yolmer Sánchez had a big series against Worcester, a team he used to play for in 2022. He recorded just 12 at-bats but had six hits including a home run and seven RBIs, which led the team in the series. Despite the big week, Sánchez has struggled to the tune of a .666 OPS this year.

Pablo Reyes stood out as well against the club he played for earlier this year. Reyes went 6-for-19 with a home run and five RBIs in five games. Reyes continues to be a solid depth pickup for David Stearns as he now owns an .847 OPS with Syracuse.

Joey Lucchesi shined on the mound with an outing allowing just one run in seven innings. He allowed six baserunners and struck out five. Lucchesi is back on track after a rough couple of starts, and he owns a 2.03 ERA in his last two starts. On the year, his ERA is 4.20.

Mike Vasil also recorded a quality start and is pitching better of late. Vasil allowed three runs in six innings and struck out eight. Vasil now owns a 6.18 ERA.

Out of the bullpen, Josh Walker (three scoreless innings) and Cole Sulser (two scoreless innings) were the standouts against the Red Sox. Both have pitched marvelously for Syracuse this year, as Walker owns a 1.42 ERA and Sulser owns a 1.71 ERA. Look for both to be MLB bullpen options soon as the team continues to try to patchwork a solution.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies had an unusual week against the Hartford Yard Goats. Binghamton dropped the first three games of the series at home before going on the road and taking each of the last three games to earn a split. Binghamton outscored Hartford 36-32 in the series and is now 5-6 in the second half of the season. That puts them in fourth place in the Eastern League Northeast division. Overall, they are 40-38.

The talk of the town in terms of Mets prospects lately has been Ryan Clifford and for good reason. He had yet another stellar week, going 10-for-21 in five games. He recorded a home run, three doubles, four RBIs, and six runs, as well as three walks. His OPS in those five games was 1.304, which raised his OPS with Binghamton to .886.

JT Schwartz, Binghamton’s best hitter behind Clifford, went 7-for-20 with two doubles and four RBIs. He also scored four runs and stole a base. He had a solid .800 OPS for the week, which actually lowered his season OPS to .822.

Jaylen Palmer has been right there with Schwartz this year, and he went 6-for-14 with three doubles this week. His six runs scored tied Clifford for the team lead in the series, and Schwartz also added a stolen base as well. His OPS for the year is .813.

Another Binghamton player who has earned himself recognition as one of the Mets’ most exciting young prospects is Brandon Sproat. Sproat had a fantastic start against Hartford, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. Sproat also struck out nine. With his effort, Sproat’s ERA with Binghamton is now 2.05.

Luis Moreno had a better start for Binghamton, throwing six scoreless innings and striking out six. Moreno has been solid, and he lowered his ERA on the year to 4.09.

Nolan McLean had his second solid start in a row for Binghamton, allowing one run in five innings. McLean struck out five but did allow 10 baserunners. He owns a 5.45 ERA on the year.

One performance of note out of the bullpen was Shintaro Fujinami, who spent time in Binghamton on a rehab assignment. Fujinami was spectacular, striking out five in two perfect innings across two appearances. Fujinami has struggled mightily in Syracuse this season but could potentially join the Mets’ major league bullpen soon as they seek reinforcements.

Brandon Sproat, Photo by Bronson Harris of Binghamton Rumble Ponies

High-A

Like its two superior affiliates, the Brooklyn Cyclones also split their series against the Hudson Valley Renegades. It was an up-and-down series, as the first four games each featured a shutout, twice pitched by each team. Brooklyn then won the fifth game of the series 8-3 before dropping a one-run affair to close out the series. Brooklyn is now 5-10 in the second half of the season, which puts them in last place in the South Atlantic League North division. Overall, the team is 38-43.

Wilfredo Lara was far-and-away Brooklyn’s best bat in this series, going 7-for-17 with a home run and five RBIs. Lara also recorded a double and two walks. Lara has just a .682 OPS for the year but has been better as of late. Over his last 11 games, Lara has an .878 OPS.

Junior Tilien and Karell Paz both went 5-for-15 in four games, with Tilien recording a home run and Paz recording two stolen bases. Tilien raised his OPS to .661 while Paz improved his to .574.

Kade Morris and Jonah Tong both pitched excellently in their starts against Hudson Valley, with neither allowing a run. Morris went 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven, while Tong allowed one hit in five innings and also struck out seven. Both pitchers were promoted from St. Lucie this year and have started to settle into Brooklyn nicely—Morris has a 3.86 ERA including a 1.96 ERA in his last three starts, while Tong has a 3.02 ERA including a 0.56 ERA in his last three starts.

Kodai Senga also made a significant rehab appearance as he looks to make his way back to the Mets. Senga was fantastic, striking out six in 2 2/3 perfect innings. Senga will make another rehab start on Tuesday, this time for Triple-A Syracuse.

Ben Simon (four scoreless innings) and Justin Lawson (three scoreless innings) were the standout relievers for Brooklyn this week. Simon has struggled this year with a 4.98 ERA while Lawson has been better, sitting with a 3.46 ERA.

Low-A

Unable to follow suit, the St. Lucie Mets dropped their series to the Daytona Tortugas 4-2. St. Lucie is 5-10 in the second half of the season, sitting in last place in the Florida State League East division. Overall, the team is 27-54 as they continue to be on pace to have double the number of losses as wins.

Yohairo Cuevas was St. Lucie’s best bat against Daytona, as he went 6-for-15 with three doubles, five walks and four RBIs. Cuevas compiled a 1.124 OPS in five games but still owns a .576 OPS for the year.

Boston Baro didn’t have a particularly notable week, but he was one of the better bats in what was a poor offensive week for the Mets. Baro went 3-for-13 with two doubles, and he also recorded three walks. Baro’s OPS on the year currently sits at .731.

Jack Wenninger had his best start of the year, and it ultimately earned him a promotion to High-A Brooklyn. Wenninger went seven innings and gave up one run on seven hits and two walks. He also struck out five batters. Wenninger finished his stint in St. Lucie with a 5.02 ERA but dominated in his latest start.

The rest of the rotation had pretty short, ineffective outings, but much of the bullpen looked strong. 10 relievers made at least one appearance and didn’t allow a run, including Jeremy Peguero and Layonel Ovalles, who each went three innings. Peguero owns a 3.10 ERA on the year while Ovalles has a 6.75 ERA.

Florida Complex League Mets

The FCL Mets went 2-2 this week, putting them at 19-25 on the year. They’re currently in fourth place in the FCL East division.

Jeremy Rodriguez (.768 season OPS), the Mets’ most notable name in the FCL, has finally turned it on. He went 7-for-16 with a home run and three walks, striking out just twice. He also stole three bases. Daiverson Gutierrez (.974 season OPS) went 4-for-12 with two doubles, walking four times and striking out just once.

Dominican Summer League Mets

The DSL Mets Orange went 1-3 this past week to put their record on the year at 11-13.
Players of the Week

Offense – Ryan Clifford, 1B/OF Binghamton

Clifford has played in just 31 games with Binghamton and he’s already tied for the team lead with 10 home runs. What’s even more impressive is that he’s just 20 years old, while many of his Double-A counterparts are much older than him. Clifford continues to hit for power, something that was hard to do in Brooklyn’s stadium. The proof is the difference in his slugging percentage (.304 in Brooklyn vs. .511 in Binghamton).

Clifford has all the makings of a future major leaguer who can hit for power while showing excellent plate discipline. As long as he can continue to mash in Double-A, he’ll continue down that path with no problem.

Pitching – Kade Morris, P Brooklyn

Morris was excellent in St. Lucie to start the year, earning a promotion after recording a 3.63 ERA in seven starts. Morris had a fantastic first three starts in Brooklyn, recording a 1.17 ERA but then stumbled in his next two starts with a 13.50 ERA. Now, he has a 1.96 ERA in his last three starts. All have been quality starts, including his most recent outing in which he didn’t allow a run in 6 1/3 innings.

Morris is 22 years old and was a third-round pick in 2023. So far, he’s shown at every level including now at High-A that he has a ton of potential as a future option for the Mets.

Upcoming Schedule – July 9-14

The first week of the second half of the season saw Syracuse win their series while Binghamton and Brooklyn lost theirs. St. Lucie drew a split. Syracuse was powered by Carlos Cortes, who had a brilliant week at the plate, while Brandon Sproat also had a fantastic with six scoreless innings.

For more on all the performances in the Mets minor leagues this past week, check it out below in the Mets Minors Weekly Report.

Note: While Monday is usually the lone off-day of the week in the minor leagues, all four affiliates played and started new series on Monday, July 1. For the sake of continuity, these games will be included in next week’s Mets Minors Weekly Report.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets started the second half of the season on a high note, winning four of six games in their series against the Buffalo Bisons. The Mets were fantastic in the first half with a 46-28 record and are now 4-2 to start the second half. Overall, they are 50-30.

Carlos Cortes had a fantastic week, recording a 1.223 OPS in six games. He went 10-for-25 with three home runs and nine RBIs, also scoring five runs. Cortes raised his season OPS to .886 and is playing much better of late. Over his last 12 games, his OPS is 1.128.

Brett Baty also hit three home runs against Buffalo. He went 7-for-26 and he also scored five runs. Baty continues to mash since his demotion, and he now sports a 1.026 OPS in Syracuse.

Pablo Reyes hit two home runs himself, and he is looking like a great depth pickup for David Stearns, who traded cash for him in late May. Reyes went 5-for-18 this week and also recorded three walks in addition to his two long balls. His OPS with Syracuse is now sitting at .872.

Rylan Bannon hit two home runs as well, and he walked five times in contrast to striking out three times. Bannon had a .958 OPS for the week which raised his season OPS to .869.

Syracuse received great starting pitching performances this week, with the most impressive outings coming from Dom Hamel, Joey Lucchesi and José Buttó.

Hamel struck out nine in seven innings of work, and he only allowed three earned runs. It was an impressive outing for the struggling Hamel, whose season ERA in Syracuse is 6.64.

Lucchesi allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings of work while striking out eight, and Buttó allowed two runs in seven innings while striking out five. Lucchesi’s Triple-A ERA is currently 4.46 while Buttó’s is a much better 3.05.

Of note this week, top pitching prospect Christian Scott is being recalled Wednesday to start for the Mets versus the Nationals.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Portland Sea Dogs only played five games as one of their matchups was postponed due to inclement weather. That robbed the Rumble Ponies of a chance to tie the series, as they fell 3-2. It was a tough offensive series for both teams, as Portland outscored Binghamton 16-12 in the five games. Binghamton is now 2-3 in the second half of the season and 37-35 overall.

Given the Rumble Ponies managed to score just 12 runs in five games, there weren’t many standout performances at the plate. Ryan Clifford was the only Binghamton batter to homer this week, and he went just 2-for-14 at the plate. He did walk three times while striking out just twice, however, but his Double-A OPS lowered to .828.

The best hitter at the plate during Binghamton’s series with Portland was JT Schwartz, who went 6-for-12. He also walked four times and struck out just twice. Schwartz raised his OPS on the season to .804.

Brandon Sproat threw six shutout innings in his start last week, and he continues to pitch like a top-100 prospect in all of baseball. (He actually just cracked MLB Pipeline’s list.) In addition to not allowing a run, he allowed five hits and two walks and struck out three. Since his call-up to Binghamton, he has a 1.94 ERA in seven starts.

Justin Jarvis also continues to pitch really well, as he went 4 2/3 innings without allowing a run in his start. He allowed five hits and a walk while striking out five, lowering his Double-A ERA to 2.90.

Nolan McLean has struggled mightily both at the plate and on the mound since his promotion to Binghamton, but he had a great outing on the mound this week. He allowed one earned run in five innings, allowing six total baserunners and striking out five. His ERA in Binghamton is now 6.07.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones had a brutal week against the Aberdeen IronBirds, dropping five games of their six-game set. They were outscored 37-24, with 10 of their 24 runs coming in the final game of the series, which also happened to be a loss. The Cyclones have hovered around .500 for most of the season but have struggled mightily of late. In the second half of the season, they’re 2-7 and are now 35-40 overall.

Jesus Baez made his High-A debut this past week and he fared really well. Baez went 6-for-21 with a home run and two doubles. He also scored three runs and stole a base. His OPS for the week was .810 after having a .782 OPS with St. Lucie to start the season.

Wilfredo Lara didn’t hit much this week but he demonstrated good plate discipline, going 4-for-17 with a home run and five walks. His OPS for the week of .821 raised his season number to .657.

Nick Morabito went 7-for-20 in five games played, recording a double, a walk and two stolen bases. Morabito’s OPS since joining Brooklyn is now .772 after he had a scorching start to the season in St. Lucie.

Nick Lorusso, arguably Brooklyn’s best hitter this year, only went 3-for-18 this week but he walked six times and struck out just three times. He also hit a home run, recorded four RBIs and stole a base. His season OPS is now at .850.

Brooklyn saw a trio of brilliant starting pitching performances this week. Jonah Tong is really settling into High-A now as demonstrated by his latest performance. He allowed one run in six innings, striking out 11. Tong had a couple of bad performances in a row, but he now has a 1.69 ERA with 21 strikeouts in his last three starts. His ERA with Brooklyn is 3.38.

Dakota Hawkins continued his strong season with a six-inning outing in which he didn’t allow a run. He allowed just three hits, no walks, and struck out five. The former undrafted prospect now has a 3.71 ERA in Brooklyn.

Kade Morris also went six innings, allowing two runs and striking out eight. Morris has a 4.54 ERA in seven starts with Brooklyn, but his last two starts have been quality starts of six innings.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets, for seemingly the first time in forever, didn’t lose their series this past week. They didn’t win either, though, drawing a split. They played the Palm Beach Cardinals, losing the first two matchups before winning three of the last four. St. Lucie is now 3-6 in the second half of the season and 25-50 overall.

Colin Houck had a bit of a breakout week, as he went 7-for-23 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. His .838 OPS for the week raised his season OPS to .634.

Boston Baro also had a good week at the plate, going 9-for-27. He didn’t slug much, as eight of his nine hits were singles, the other hit being a double. Still, Baro hit .333 for the week and raised his OPS on the year to .737.

A.J. Ewing, on the other hand, showed off more power by going 5-for-19 with three of his hits being doubles. He also drove in three batters, walked twice and stole a base. On the year, Ewing has a .703 OPS with St. Lucie.

Joel Díaz and Saul Garcia provided the Mets with some quality starting pitching, something the team has not seen much of this year. Garcia only went 3 2/3 innings but didn’t allow a run despite allowing six baserunners. Still, he struck out five and lowered his season ERA to 5.58. Díaz provided more length, going 5 1/3 innings while allowing a run. He only struck out two batters but was effective, nonetheless. His season ERA is now 5.92.

St. Lucie also got some great bullpen performances, with Jeremy Peguero (4 IP), Layonel Ovalles (2 2/3 IP) and Cristofer Gomez (2 1/3 IP) among a group of relievers that didn’t allow a single run in their outings.

Florida Complex League Mets

The FCL Mets went 1-4 this past week, worsening their record on the season to 17-23. They currently sit in fourth place in the FCL East division.

He was the starter for what turned out to be the FCL Mets’ first no-hitter since the 2015 season. He’s struggled this season, though, with a 6.20 ERA.

Players of the Week

Offense – Carlos Cortes, OF Syracuse

Carlos Cortes has had a great year for Syracuse, sporting an .886 OPS on the year after he had a .783 OPS in Syracuse a season ago. He’s in a current stretch of his best games of the year, demonstrating both contact and power ability. Cortes is freshly 27 years old and was a 2018 third-round draft pick of the Mets. He has yet to reach the majors, and he likely won’t this year unless a barrage of injuries hits the Mets, but he is turning into a fine player at the Triple-A level.

Pitching – Brandon Sproat, P Binghamton

To put it simply, there haven’t been many better pitchers in the minor leagues this year than Brandon Sproat. He has a 1.94 ERA in Binghamton and a 1.61 ERA overall this year with a WHIP under 1.00. The 2023 second-round pick delivered yet another dominant outing of six shutout innings this past week and there’s no reason to think he won’t continue down this path of just making it look easy.

The final week of the minor league season is here, with the Syracuse Mets rounding out a disappointing season with a series split. In Double-A, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies advanced to the Eastern League Championship Series and then lost Game 1 to the Erie SeaWolves. To win their first title since 2014, the Rumble Ponies will have to win two consecutive games in Erie. Game 2 is scheduled for September 26 and Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for September 27.

Here are the biggest developments throughout the organization, including a clutch homer from Jett Williams and a statement start from Dominic Hamel.

Triple-A Syracuse

The Syracuse Mets split their six-game series at home against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Syracuse finishes its season with a 61-85 record.

He hit just .173 with a .603 OPS on the season, but he did post a .974 OPS in his first 21 career Triple-A games.

Tidwell’s night started out strong, as he struck out five SeaWolves across three scoreless innings. The SeaWolves, however, got the best of Tidwell in the next two innings. Ben Malgeri got the SeaWolves on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI double. Erie then took the lead in the top of the fifth after Trei Cruz smacked an RBI triple and Jake Holton blasted a two-run homer to make it 4-3. Tidwell was only charged with three earned runs.

Binghamton’s bullpen also struggled. Benito Garcia, Joander Suarez, and Wilkin Ramos allowed five earned runs in 2 2/3 combined innings which led to the Rumble Ponies’ eventual 9-6 loss.

Despite losing, the Rumble Ponies’ offense was on fire against Wilmer Flores. Kevin Parada singled in the first inning to give Binghamton an early 2-0 lead, and Rhylan Thomas tacked on another run in the second with a ground-rule double to make it 3-0. Flores was pulled after those two innings and was charged with three earned runs.

The biggest offensive moment of the night came in the bottom of the sixth. Down 6-3, Gilbert blasted a three-run homer of left Lael Lockhart to tie the game. Those would be the last runs of the night scored by the Rumble Ponies.

With their loss on September 25, the Rumble Ponies have their backs against the wall. They need to win two consecutive games on the road to win the 2023 EL title, which Binghamton hasn’t won since 2014.

Players of the Week

Offense – Jett Williams, SS/OF Binghamton

Williams had a rough string of games upon first being called up to Double-A in early September, hitting .227 with a .581 OPS in Binghamton’s final regular season series. He could not be contained for long, as he launched a three-run homer that put Game 1 of the Division Series out of reach. He reached base twice via the walk, a staple of his game from the moment he became a professional ballplayer. Williams also displayed his eye in the championship series. He went 0-for-1 but walked four times and scored two runs.

Williams will turn 20 during the off-season and will most likely start the 2024 season at Double-A. Having earned two promotions during this past season, it is entirely reasonable to expect to see Williams at the Triple-A level at some point in 2024. He is unquestionably one of the Mets’ most exciting prospects, and it will be interesting to see just how much of his superb 2023 season he will be able to replicate moving forward.

Pitching – Dominic Hamel, P Binghamton

Hamel delivered a shutdown outing in Game 2 to help the Rumble Ponies clinch a spot in the Eastern League Championship Series, allowing just five baserunners across 7 2/3 scoreless innings. Hamel has not allowed a run in 21 2/3 innings on the mound in September, an exceptional run of form that has helped catapult Binghamton into the upper echelon of the Eastern League.

Hamel spent the entire 2023 season at the Double-A level and should start the 2024 season with Triple-A Syracuse. Entering his age-25 season, Hamel will most likely make his major league debut at some point next season. With a 3.85 ERA and 160 strikeouts across 124 innings this season, there’s plenty of anticipation about what he can do at that top level.

Triple-A Syracuse

The Syracuse Mets split their six-game series away at the Worcester Red Sox. Syracuse has a 58-82 record entering their final series of the season next week.

Jaylen Palmer hit a home run in three straight games this series. He has an .866 OPS and five home runs in his first 15 Triple-A games.

Mike Vasil struck out 10 batters over six strong innings of two-run ball on Thursday. He lowered his Triple-A ERA to 5.48, and he has 130 strikeouts in 120 innings on the mound this season–over 30 innings more than he had all of 2022.

Double-A Binghamton

The Rumble Ponies won four of six games at home against the Reading Fightin Phils. Binghamton finishes the regular season with a 74-61 record and begins their three-game divisional series matchup against the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday.

Drew Gilbert went 7-for-15 with one triple, two doubles, four walks, three runs, and three RBI. He finished the regular season with 18 homers and an .868 OPS, hitting .325 with a .984 OPS in 35 games with Binghamton.

Luisangel Acuña went 2-for-17 with two stolen bases. Acuña finished the regular season with a .294 average and 57 stolen bases, but he hit just .243 with a .621 OPS in 37 games with Binghamton.

Jeremiah Jackson went 5-for-18 with one double and two stolen bases. Jackson finished the regular season with 22 homers and a .768 OPS, posting an .801 OPS in 37 games with Binghamton.

Jett Williams went 5-for-22 with one double, two RBI, five runs scored, and one stolen base. He also struck out 10 times and drew two walks in his first six career Double-A games.

Kevin Parada went 2-for-14 with one double. He hit .185 with three homers in 14 games since a late-season call-up to the Rumble Ponies.

Blade Tidwell struck out nine batters across five scoreless innings in his start on Tuesday. He followed that up by allowing two runs in just 1/3 of an inning of work on Sunday. He had a 4.72 ERA in eight Double-A starts and a 3.57 overall ERA this season with 153 strikeouts in 116 innings.

Christian Scott pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out five in his start on Wednesday. He finished the season with a 2.57 ERA across 19 starts with 107 strikeouts in 87 2/3 innings and a 0.86 WHIP. He’ll start the first game of the playoffs.

Joander Suarez struck out nine batters across five scoreless innings of work on Thursday. He has pitched 18 consecutive scoreless innings to begin his Double-A career and he finished the season with 137 strikeouts in 108 1/3 innings.

Dominic Hamel pitched five scoreless innings and struck out eight batters in his start on Friday. He did not allow a run in 14 innings on the mound in September and finished the season with a 3.85 ERA and 160 strikeouts in 124 innings. He’ll pitch Game 2 of the playoffs.

Organizational Leaders

Batting

AVG – Luisangel Acuña (BNG) – .294

OPS – Jett Williams (BNG) – .876

HR – Luke Ritter (SYR) – 27

SO – Dominic Hamel (BNG) – 160

WHIP – Christian Scott (BNG) – 0.86

Players of the Week

Offense – Drew Gilbert, OF Binghamton

Gilbert has had by far the most success of any of the prospects acquired by the Mets at this season’s deadline, and he had yet another outstanding week to round out his regular season. He hit nearly .500 and reached base 11 times across the five games he played in, recording three extra-base hits including his third triple of the year. He hit .325 with a .984 OPS in 35 games with the Rumble Ponies, and he looks to be in top form entering the Double-A postseason.

As one of two high-profile prospects acquired in the Justin Verlander trade, there was quite a lot of pressure on Gilbert to perform right out of the gates. Despite that, it is fair to say that he has surpassed those lofty expectations with superb play both at the plate and in the field. The 22-year-old outfielder will likely start the 2024 season at Triple-A with a legitimate shot at being promoted to the major league roster by the end of next season.

Pitching – The entire Binghamton starting rotation

The Rumble Ponies rotation as a whole deserves top billing here for just how dominant they were throughout the series. The starting pitcher in each of the first five games of their series pitched a scoreless outing, combining for 22 scoreless innings and 35 strikeouts. Three of those starters went five innings, and none of the five allowed more than three hits.

The Binghamton roster has nearly every top arm in the Mets’ system, and even at less than full strength they were able to put together this incredible run of starts. The rotation is firing on all cylinders, and they will need to keep up that form going into a pivotal postseason matchup against an incredibly strong Somerset Patriots squad.

Upcoming Schedule – September 19-24

Triple-A Syracuse – vs. Scranton/WB

Double-A Binghamton – vs. Somerset Game 1, @ Somerset Game 2 and Game 3 (if applicable)

Mike Vasil allowed six runs across five innings of work during his start on Friday. He has a 5.71 ERA in 14 Triple-A starts.

Double-A Binghamton

The Rumble Ponies have been the team to watch the last month of so, and they won three of five games away at the Hartford Yard Goats. Binghamton has clinched their spot in the postseason as the second-half winner of the Northeast division of the Eastern League.

Drew Gilbert went 4-for-15 with two home runs, three RBI, and five runs scored. He had a multi-homer game on Thursday, and he has a .945 OPS with six home runs in 30 games with Binghamton.

Luisangel Acuña went 6-for-21 with two home runs, one double, one stolen base, four RBI, and six runs scored. Acuña hit his first two homers for Binghamton in Wednesday’s game, and he is hitting .260 with a .668 OPS in 33 games since being acquired.

Kevin Parada went 5-for-18 with two home runs, one double, and five RBI. He has 14 homers on the year, including three in 10 games since being promoted to Double-A.

Jeremiah Jackson went 7-for-21 with two home runs, two doubles, five RBI, and four runs scored. Jackson has an .833 OPS with seven home runs in 32 games with Binghamton.

Joander Suarez threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader, striking out four batters and issuing just one walk. Suarez has begun his Double-A career with 13 consecutive no-hit innings, and he has not allowed a hit in his last 17 innings on the mound.

Dominic Hamel pitched three hitless innings in his start on Friday, striking out five batters and issuing one walk. He has a 4.01 ERA across 119 innings this season.

Christian Scott tossed two scoreless innings and struck out three in his start on Wednesday. It was his first game action since firing 6 1/3 scoreless innings in a start on August 12th.

Blade Tidwell allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings of work in his start on Tuesday. He has a 4.97 ERA in six Double-A starts.

High-A Brooklyn

The Cyclones won four of six games at home against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Brooklyn finished with a 38-28 record in the second half but missed out on a postseason spot due to a tiebreaker, ending their season.

Jett Williams went 7-for-23 with one home run, two triples, one double, four runs, and five walks. Williams hit .299 with a 1.018 OPS in 36 games with Brooklyn, and he was called up to Double-A following the conclusion of Brooklyn’s season.

Ryan Clifford went 3-for-17 with one home run, one double, and four RBI. Clifford finished the year with 24 homers and an .854 OPS, but he hit just .188 with a .683 OPS in 32 games with Brooklyn.

Stanley Consuegra hit three homers in the series to give him 23 on the year. He hit 13 homers in the 2022 season and had just 19 homers in three seasons prior to the start of this year.

Jordany Ventura allowed three runs (two earned) and struck out seven batters in 8 2/3 innings across two starts. He posted a 3.86 ERA in 10 starts with Brooklyn.

Layonel Ovalles allowed three runs in five innings of work in his start on Friday. He had a 3.38 ERA in his two starts after a late-season call-up to High-A.

Low-A St. Lucie

Nolan McLean pitched two scoreless innings in relief in Saturday’s game. He was also in the lineup for two games in the series, going 1-for-7 with two runs scored and two walks.

Organizational Leaders

Batting

AVG – Luisangel Acuña (BNG) – .300

OPS – Jett Williams (BRK) – .892

HR – Luke Ritter (SYR) – 27

SB – Luisangel Acuña – 55

Pitching

(Among qualified players)

ERA – Tyler Stuart (BNG) – 2.20

SO – Dominic Hamel (BNG) – 152

WHIP – Christian Scott (BNG) – 0.85

Players of the Week

Offense – Jeremiah Jackson, UTIL Binghamton

Jackson has been extremely solid since being acquired from the Angels in the Dominic Leone trade, and all of his skills were on full display this week. He had four extra-base hits including two home runs, he drove in five runs, and he scored four more. Jackson has 22 homers on the year, with seven of those coming in the 32 games he has played for Binghamton.

Jackson has bounced around the diamond as a defender, making at least six starts at second base, shortstop, and third base with Binghamton. He probably projects as a utility infielder with plus power and solid speed (25 stolen bases this season), a player archetype that teams can never have too many of. The 23-year-old Jackson will most likely start the 2024 season in Triple-A with a shot at making the major league roster at some point next year.

Honorable mentions go to Jett Williams for yet another outstanding week as well as earning a promotion to Double-A, to Danny Mendick for having an 11-hit series, and to Luisangel Acuña for blasting his first two homers as a member of the Mets organization.

Pitching – Joander Suarez, P Binghamton

Suarez has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for two consecutive weeks, and for good reason. He followed up six hitless innings in his Double-A debut with a seven-inning no-hitter this past week, pushing his consecutive hitless innings streak to 17. Suarez has had a storybook beginning to his Double-A career, and he will have at least one more start this season to see just how far he can push that hitless streak.

The 23-year-old Suarez is having a breakout year in his fifth professional season, and he has placed himself squarely in the conversation of most intriguing Mets farmhand pitchers. It remains to be seen just how much of his current success is sustainable, but it has been supremely fun to watch in real-time.

Honorable mentions go to Christian Scott for pitching two scoreless innings in his return from the injured list and to Dominic Hamel for firing off three strong scoreless innings in a rain-shortened start.

Upcoming Schedule – September 12-17

Triple-A Syracuse – @ Worcester

Double-A Binghamton – vs. Reading

None of the usual suspects did much to stand out in what was a down week for every team except for the surging Rumble Ponies. As a result, other players who might not have as much acclaim were given the chance to step up and fill in the gaps. Here are the biggest developments, including a triumphant return to the organization for Daniel Palka, Drew Gilbert staying hot, and an electric Double-A debut for Joander Suarez.

Triple-A Syracuse

The Syracuse Mets lost all six games of their series away at the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Syracuse is currently on a seven-game losing streak and has a 52-77 record on the year.

Daniel Palka went 8-for-22 with three homers, two doubles, five RBI, and five runs scored. Palka spent the 2022 season with Syracuse and showed out in his first game action since being signed as a free agent at the beginning of last week.

Carlos Cortes went 2-for-3 with two homers, six RBI, and two walks in Tuesday’s game. He is up to a career-high 15 homers on the year to go along with an .839 OPS.

Mike Vasil allowed five runs in 1 2/3 innings of work on Friday. He has a 5.28 ERA in 13 Triple-A starts and an overall ERA of 4.54 through 23 starts.

Double-A Binghamton

The Rumble Ponies swept their six-game series at home against the Harrisburg Senators. Binghamton is riding a seven-game winning streak and is second in its division with a 32-23 record in the second half of the season.

Drew Gilbert went 5-for-20 with one double, two stolen bases, and five walks. Gilbert is hitting .323 with a .921 OPS in 26 games for Binghamton.

Luisangel Acuña went 6-for-22 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and three runs scored. Acuña is still looking for his first homer as a Rumble Pony, although he does have a staggering 54 stolen bases on the year including 12 in 28 games with Binghamton.

Kevin Parada went 3-for-22 with one home run and five RBI in his first series as a Double-A player. Parada is up to 12 homers on the year.

Blade Tidwell pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out six batters in his start on Tuesday. He has a 3.86 ERA through his first five Double-A starts.

Joander Suarez had a masterful debut for the Rumble Ponies on Thursday, firing six hitless innings and racking up six strikeouts. Suarez was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for his performance, marking the second straight week that a Rumble Pony received the award (Tyler Stuart).

Dominic Hamel struck out 11 batters across six scoreless innings in his start on Friday. It was the third time this season that Hamel has recorded 11 strikeouts in a start, and he has a 4.11 ERA on the year.

Jordan Geber pitched six scoreless innings in his first Double-A start of the year on Saturday. Geber has a 5.22 ERA through 13 appearances (seven starts).

High-A Brooklyn

The Cyclones lost four of six games away at the Greenville Drive. Brooklyn is tied for the top spot in their division with a 34-26 second-half record entering their final series of the regular season.

Jett Williams went 3-for-18 with one home run, one stolen base, and six walks. Williams is hitting .298 with a 1.003 OPS in 30 games with Brooklyn.

Ryan Clifford went 3-for-5 on Sunday, crushing his 23rd homer of the year and driving in three runs. However, he went just 1-for-16 in the five games prior and is hitting just .190 with a .687 OPS in 27 games for Brooklyn.

Alex Ramírez hit his seventh homer of the season on Saturday. Stanley Consuegra had two triples in the series and also hit his 20th homer of the year.

Layonel Ovalles allowed one run and struck out six batters in 5 2/3 innings of work in his High-A debut on Friday. He has a 4.53 ERA in 23 appearances (19 starts) this season.

Robert Colina struck out 10 batters across six scoreless innings of work on Saturday. He reached double-digit strikeouts for just the second time in his career, and he has a 3.72 ERA in 67 2/3 innings on the mound this season.

Low-A St. Lucie

The St. Lucie Mets lost three of four games away at the Tampa Tarpons. St. Lucie has a 41-82 record this year.

Marco Vargas went 3-for-12 with a stolen base. Ronald Hernandez went 0-for-9 with four walks.

Nick Morabito went 3-for-10 with one double and six stolen bases. He had four steals in Friday’s game and has 21 steals in 53 games this season.

Nolan McLean allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings of work on Friday. The third-round pick in this year’s draft, who was drafted as a two-way player, is also hitless in his first two at-bats at the Low-A level.

Organizational Leaders

Batting

AVG – Luisangel Acuña (BNG) – .301

OPS – Jett Williams (BRK) – .880

HR – Luke Ritter (SYR) – 27

SB – Luisangel Acuña – 54

SO – Dominic Hamel (BNG) – 147

WHIP – Christian Scott (BNG) – 0.86

Players of the Week

Offense – Daniel Palka, 1B/DH Syracuse

All of the top prospects had rather pedestrian performances, so the honor this week will go to Palka for crushing it in his return to the Mets organization. He had five extra-base hits in the six games he played including three homers, and he provided Syracuse with essentially all of its offense in what was ultimately a listless series for the team.

Palka had 27 homers for the White Sox in his first year in the majors back in 2018, but he hasn’t appeared in a major league game since 2019. It is unlikely that there is much of a future for Palka with the Mets’ organization beyond Syracuse. However, the sudden emergence of DJ Stewart has proven that no one should be counted out to make an impact on the major league roster down the stretch of this disappointing 2023 season, including Palka.

Honorable mentions go to Nick Morabito for recording a four-steal game, as well as to Carlos Cortes for setting a new career high in homers with his two long balls.

Pitching – Joander Suarez, P Binghamton

Suarez had about as good of a Double-A debut as one could ask for, pitching six hitless innings and allowing just one baserunner on a walk. He earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors, and he will have a few more starts this year to establish himself in an immensely talented Binghamton rotation.

It took the 23-year-old Suarez until his fifth professional season to reach Double-A, but he’s finally having the sort of season that will have Mets brass hopeful for the future. He has a 4.76 ERA on the year with 124 strikeouts in 96 1/3 innings, and although his walk rate is sky-high, he’s allowed just six home runs. Suarez hasn’t struggled too much with walks in the past, so if he can get his command under control while preserving his strikeout stuff, he could be a name to watch moving forward.

Honorable mentions go to Dominic Hamel for tying a career high with 11 strikeouts over six scoreless innings, as well as to Jordan Geber for pitching six scoreless innings in just his second career Double-A start.

Upcoming Schedule – September 5-10

Triple-A Syracuse – vs. Rochester

Double-A Binghamton – @ Hartford

High-A Brooklyn – vs. Wilmington

Low-A St. Lucie – vs. Daytona

Double-A Binghamton

The Rumble Ponies won four of five games away at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Binghamton has a 61-57 record this season.

Drew Gilbert went 6-for-19 with two homers, one double, and five RBI.
Luisangel Acuña went 8-for-21 with four runs scored, three RBI, and two stolen bases. Acuña has just two extra-base hits in 22 games since joining Binghamton, both doubles, but he continues to wreak havoc on the basepaths with 10 steals in that span.

Jeremiah Jackson went 7-for-21 with three homers and five RBI. He had a home run in each of the first three games of the series and has hit 20 homers on the year, including five in just 21 games with Binghamton.

Agustin Ruiz went 8-for-16 with three homers, one double, eight RBI, seven runs scored, and six walks. Ruiz was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for his incredible performance in the series, and he is up to 17 homers on the year.

Blade Tidwell pitched five scoreless innings and racked up six strikeouts in his start on Tuesday. It was by far Tidwell’s best start for the Rumble Ponies, and he has a 4.87 ERA through his first four Double-A starts.

Tyler Stuart allowed just two hits across six scoreless innings in his start on Wednesday, striking out six batters. Stuart was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for his efforts, and he has a 2.20 ERA this season through 21 starts at the High-A and Double-A levels.

Dominic Hamel allowed three runs across five innings of work on Friday. He continues to lead all Mets farmhands with 136 strikeouts on the year.

High-A Brooklyn

The Cyclones won four of six games away at the Asheville Tourists. Brooklyn has a 60-59 record on the year and has been the best team in the South Atlantic League North division in the second half with a 32-22 record.

Jett Williams went 9-for-25 with two home runs, one double, two stolen bases, six walks, eight RBI, and seven runs scored. Williams had multi-hit efforts in each of the first four games of the series, and he is hitting .326 with an astounding 1.061 OPS in 24 games since being called up to Brooklyn.

Kevin Parada went 5-for-24 with one home run, two doubles, and five RBI in his return to the Cyclones lineup following his IL stint. He has four homers in 21 games since joining Brooklyn and showed much better plate discipline with five walks in the series, but he is still hitting just .185 with a .665 OPS in 24 games with the Cyclones.

Stanley Consuegra homered in each of the first three games of the series and drove in seven runs across the six games.
OPS – Jett Williams (BRK) – .888

HR – Luke Ritter (SYR) – 27

SB – Luisangel Acuña – 52

Pitching

(Among qualified players)

ERA – Tyler Stuart (BNG) – 2.20

SO – Dominic Hamel (BNG) – 136

WHIP – Christian Scott (BNG) – 0.86

Players of the Week

Offense – Jett Williams, SS/CF Brooklyn

It’s more than reasonable to expect a prospect to struggle initially upon making the jump to a higher level of play, especially a prospect like Jett Williams who is still a teenager. However, Williams has done the exact opposite and has excelled since being promoted to Brooklyn. He showcased every one of his tools this past week, reaching base 15 times (nine hits and six walks), slugging two homers, driving in eight runs, and picking up two stolen bases. Williams’ season OPS is nearing .900, he has drawn 91 walks in 103 games, and he is within reach of having a 50-steal season.

Williams has demonstrated great power at the plate with Brooklyn, logging 13 extra-base hits through his first 24 games. There really does not appear to be many weaknesses in his game, and one would imagine that he will only continue to improve as he gets more experience against professional pitching under his belt. Williams may not be the most high-profile prospect that the Mets have, but he has surely been the most electric.

The honorable mentions list is rather long this week, an encouraging sight for sure. Ronny Mauricio reached base 15 times in Syracuse’s series and collected five extra-base hits. Drew Gilbert continued his tear by crushing two homers and driving in a run in all five games he played. Jeremiah Jackson and Stanley Consuegra each hit three homers this week, while Agustin Ruiz earned Eastern League Player of the Week honors after posting a 1.761 OPS in Binghamton’s series with three homers of his own.

Pitching – Tyler Stuart, P Binghamton

Stuart was coming off two of his worst starts of the season entering his turn on the mound on Wednesday, and he managed to turn in one of his most dominant performances of the year. He allowed just two baserunners across six innings of work, striking out six batters and issuing no walks. He was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week as a result, the first weekly award he has received in his career.

As he has done most of the season, Stuart is leading all qualified minor league pitchers with a 2.20 ERA. His stuff is not super overpowering (112 strikeouts in 110 2/3 innings), but he has been exceptional at working around baserunners and limiting damage. He has allowed more than two earned runs in just three of his 21 starts this season and has had five scoreless starts of at least four innings. Stuart has rocketed up prospect rankings this season and has shown no signs of slowing down what has been a meteoric rise for the 2022 sixth-round pick.

Honorable mentions go to Mike Vasil for continuing a strong run of form in August with another great outing, as well as to Blade Tidwell for recording his first scoreless outing at the Double-A level.

Upcoming Schedule – August 29-September 3

Double-A Binghamton – vs. Harrisburg

High-A Brooklyn – @ Greenville
