Palm Beach 7, St. Lucie 3

St Lucie’s six game winning streak was snapped tonight by the Palm Beach Cardinals.  St Lucie’s starter Angel Cuan pitched six solid innings in the loss. Cuan allowed one unearned run in the second inning, and surrendered a solo home run to Stephen Piscotty in the fourth inning. St. Lucie was leading 3-2 in the seventh when Cuan exited the game. While Cuan was not dominant, he pitched effectively enough to deserve the win. Unfortunately, the St. Lucie bullpen couldn’t hold on to the lead.

Estarlin Morel entered the game in relief of Cuan with a man on base and quickly yielded a RBI double to the first batter he faced. However, Morel was able to escape the inning without allowing any more runs.

The Palm Beach Cardinals took the lead in the eighth off St Lucie reliever Randy Fontanez.  Fontanez allowed three runs in the inning, which put the game out of reach for St. Lucie.

Offensivley, Dustin Lawley was St. Lucie’s lone producer. In the fourth inning, Lawley put St Lucie on the board with a RBI triple off the centerfield wall. In his next AB, Lawley crushed a two-run home run to left field that put the Mets up 3-2.  Lawley finished only a double short of the cycle.  The rest of St. Lucie’s lineup went a combined 2-for-26.

Matthew Bowman pitched six innings and struck out seven to earn his first win in his Florida State League debut as the Mets defeated the Daytona Cubs 13-3 on Tuesday.

The Mets(20-11) won their fourth straight game and have won the first three games of the series between the two teams.

Bowman allowed three runs and six hits and issued just one walk.

The Mets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Dustin Lawley hit a solo home run to left to make it 1-0. Travis Taijeron lined a home run to right to extend the lead to 2-0. Charley Thurber ripped an RBI triple to right to extend the lead.

Aderlin Rodriguez drilled his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot to left in the fifth.

The Mets pulled away with an eight-run seventh inning, highlighted by Thurber’s bases clearing three-run double.

The Mets will host the Cubs(16-15) on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the series finale. Alex Panteliodis will make his second start with the Mets.

Tampa 7, St. Lucie 3

Continuing a suspended game from last night, the St. Lucie Mets started the game down a run and never came back, losing to the Tampa Yankees by a final score of 7-3.

Domingo Tapia had the start yesterday, however after pitching one inning, the game was called due to rain and lightning. His day officially ended with the Mets prospect surrendering one run on no hits while walking one. He would take a tough loss in this one, but he technically had a no-hitter going? Yeah…no.

Marcos Camarena came on in relief, or rather to start the suspended game, and had a meltdown in an inning. After allowing five of his six batters to reach base, he was lifted for Estarlin Morel who, after walking in a run, retired the side. In the fourth, Morel was less effective as he served up a two-run bomb to Mason Williams to make it a 6-1 game. Gary Sanchez came up to bat in the seventh against Wanel Vasquez and doubled home the Yankees’ seventh and final run of the ballgame. Not a great day for St. Lucie pitching all around.

The offense wasn’t much too write home about either with the exception of a few moments. Native New Yorker Cam Maron drove home the first St. Lucie run on a two out knock in the fourth. In the top of the sixth, Rylan Sandoval scored from third on a Dustin Lawley RBI groundout. Finally, in the ninth, in a futile attempt at a late inning rally, T.J. Rivera reached on a fielding error with two outs to score Maron and make it 7-3, but that would be all she wrote.

The other game of Wednesday’s double-header and series finale with the Tampa Yankees was postponed.

Noah Syndergaard hurled six effective innings on Tuesday night, but the St. Lucie bullpen gave up two runs over the final three innings as the Charlotte Stone Crabs topped St. Lucie, 3-2.

In the first, second, fourth, and sixth innings – Syndergaard set the side down in order. He allowed only three hits and the only run that crossed under his watch was due to a passed ball. This was probably the sharpest we have seen Noah Syndergaard look since he joined our organization. The six innings matched a career-high.

St. Lucie (12-7) got on the board in the fourth inning. Matt Reynolds led off with a double and later scored on a Travis Taijeron ground out.

Charlotte (8-11) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after Kyeong Kang led off with a single scored on a passed ball with no outs. They also added a run in the seventh and a run in the eighth to take a 3-1 lead.

St. Lucie pulled within one after Dustin Lawley launched a solo home run to left field. Alberto Cordero knocked a one-out double to give the Mets a chance. But with two outs and the tying run on third, T.J. Rivera flew out to right field.

Fort Myers 14, St. Lucie 2

It was a rough night for St. Lucie on Friday, where they allowed 14 runs, and their offense was stifled by Fort Myers’ pitcher D.J. Baxendale.

Angel Cuan started tonight for St. Lucie and gave up a lead-off homerun to Adam Pettersen on the third pitch of the game. Cuan yielded an RBI single to Pettersen in the top of the third inning, but in the bottom half, Travis Taijeron responded by blasting a solo home run to left field to make the score 2-1.

It all unraveled for Cuan in the fourth inning, however, where he gave up seven earned runs and three home runs in the inning. Estarlin Morel pitched in relief of Cuan and allowed two runs while retiring only one batter. Morel was ejected for throwing a pitch high and inside that almost hit Fort Myers’ third baseman Kennys Vargas.  Manager Ryan Ellis was also ejected. Wanel Vasquez came in and induced a grounder to the second baseman to finally put an end to the inning. The Miracle scored a total of nine runs in the inning. It was over for St. Lucie at that point, with the score standing at 11-1.

St. Lucie will look to rebound tomorrow in the final game of the series against Fort Myers.  The pitching matchup will be Domingo Tapia vs. Tom Stuifbergen.

Twas a good night for those following St. Lucie as the Met offense down south backed up some strong pitching from Hansel Robles for a commanding 13-3 victory.

Hansel Robles continued a string of solid work so far in St. Lucie with a good start on Tuesday night, going six innings while allowing three runs off  four hits and three walks. He struck out three batters and allowed a two-run home run in the sixth inning. His only run was allowed on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, right after he allowed a runner to advance due to a wild pitch. All in all, it was a good night for Robles – even if he met the bare minimum for a quality start.

The real story of the game, of course, was the St. Lucie offense. Cam Maron did the early damage with a two-run triple in the third inning, but the best was yet to come. A five-run fourth inning was sparked with a lead-off home run by Aderlin Rodriguez, and followed by RBIs from the likes of Cam Maron (again), Matt Reynolds, TJ Rivera, and Brian Harrison. Rivera walked home a run, Maron and Reynolds singled, and Harrison lifted a sacrifice fly.

The sixth inning was even huger for the Mets, which was capped off by a Dustin Lawley grand slam. St. Lucie banged out thirteen hits in this game overall, so it was a great night. Every starter picked up at least one hit.

St. Lucie 3, Bradenton 4

The Florida sun wasn’t the only thing bringing the heat down in Bradenton this evening. Noah Syndergaard made his second start for St. Lucie, and was giving the sun a run for his money after having his fastball clocked in the mid-90s during tonight’s loss. Syndergaard pitched five innings, surrendering two runs before turning the reigns over to Estarlin Morel. More than half of Syndergaard’s outs came from his eight strikeouts. The one eye sore was Syndergaard’s four walks, but due to his eight strikeouts, his strikeout to walk ratio was still excellent.

Offensively, the Mets were led by T.J. Rivera and Gilbert Gomez who both had two hits on the night. St. Lucie jumped out to an early two run lead in the top of the first inning, but they were unable to hang on to it. They scored a run in the seventh to jump back out in front, but Bradenton scored a pair of their own runs in the bottom half of the inning, and never let go of that one run lead. Morel picked up the loss for St. Lucie, after giving up two runs on four hits. Cam Maron, Matt Reynolds and Travis Taijeron also added hits for the Mets in the loss.
