The New York Mets’ offense continues to be extremely inconsistent and that flashed once again on Sunday at Citi Field. The Mets were shutout for the second time over the last three days, 1-0, and were consequently swept by the Athletics. With the loss, New York drops to 7-9 on the young season.

Freddy Peralta toed the rubber for the Mets and turned in a very strong outing. There was some turbulence early on, as Peralta allowed a solo home run to Nick Kurtz in the third and traffic on the bases saw his pitch count balloon to 73 through four innings. However, he fought through and, overall, went six innings and allowed only four hits and the one run. Peralta struck out six and walked three. His ERA sits at a respectable 3.86 on the season.

A notably play defensively, and one of the reasons why Peralta only allowed one run was a spectacular diving play by centerfielder Carson Benge. Benge got a great jump on a ball Denzel Clarke muscled out to centerfield in the fourth inning and took away a potential two-out hit. If the ball found the grass, two Athletics would have scored pushing the score to 3-0. However, Benge gave his team a chance as the game prolonged.

Following Peralta, Sean Manaea showcased terrific stuff. Manaea worked the remaining three innings and struck out four. He was perfect over his three innings of work, not allowing a single base runner. He did this while still averaging less than 90 mph on his fastball.

Offensively, it was more of the same for the Mets. They only mustered four hits en route to being shutout for the second time in the series against the Athletics. Sunday marked the eight time this season the Mets have scored three runs of fewer.

Player of the Game: Sean Manaea

One of the rare bright points, along with starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, was the performance of Sean Manaea in relief. Manaea finished the game off with three perfect innings and four strikeouts. Despite still averaging below 90 mph on his fastball, he flashed one of his better performances in quite sometime.

On Deck

The Mets quickly head out west for a showdown with the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The first of three games in Los Angeles is set for a 10:10 pm ET first pitch on Monday. The projected pitching matchup is David Peterson versus Justin Wrobleski. The Mets will travel to Chicago following the series in Los Angeles.

SNY

The good news is the New York Mets’ offense produced Saturday. The bad news is they didn’t outscore some troublesome pitching.

The Athletics jumped out to a 7-1 lead against the Mets on Saturday. Throughout the middle innings of the game, the Mets started to mount a comeback, bringing it all the way to 7-6. Then, New York stumbled again and eventually lost 11-6. Now, the Mets will attempt to avoid the sweep this afternoon and snap their four game losing streak.

Starting Pitcher: Freddy Peralta

Freddy Peralta is the first pitcher on the Mets to make four starts so far this season. Over his first three starts, 15 innings, he has a 4.80 ERA, 3.55 FIP, 1.133 WHIP, and a 77 ERA+.

He looked great on April 1, holding the Cardinals to one run over 5 1/3 innings while striking out seven. Last time out he allowed three runs over 4 2/3 innings against the Diamondbacks.

Peralta had a strong start against the Athletics last season, holding them scoreless over five innings, scattering seven hits and a walk. The Athletics have the following career stats against Peralta:

Lawrence Butler 1-3, K

Shea Langeliers 0-3

Jeff McNeil 0-7, 2 K

Starting Pitcher: Aaron Civale

Aaron Civale has allowed three runs from six hits and two walks over 10 innings this season. Last season, Civale pitched with the Brewers, White Sox, and Cubs totaling 18 starts and 23 games overall. He pitched 102 innings with a 4.85 ERA, 4.63 FIP, 1.265 WHIP, and an 88 ERA+.
His last outing of the season was against the Mets where he allowed one run on two hits over three innings of relief. The Mets have the following career stats against him:

Francisco Alvarez 0-2, K

Brett Baty 1-2, HR, K

Bo Bichette 5-18, HR, 2 BB, K

Game Notes

Prior to Sunday’s game, the Mets recalled RHP Joey Gerber and designated RHP Luis Garcia for assignment.

Both Luis Robert Jr. and Francisco Alvarez have preplanned off days Sunday.

Three Things To Watch For

Peralta’s interesting outcomes. Peralta has a 51.4% groundball percentage this year, the highest in his career. His fly ball percentage is 24.3%, by far the lowest in his career. His ground ball/fly ball ratio is 2.11, and it has only been above once (1.04) and that was back in 2023. Each of the last two seasons it was exactly 0.82. His xFIP is 2.58, which is the lowest in his career by a long shot. But the actual results so far this season have been mixed.

Mets stolen base update. The Mets were incredibly successful at stealing bases last year, and a huge part of that was due to their first base coach Antoan Richardson. They ended last season fifth in the league. This year they are 14th with 10 stolen bases, but there’s only five stolen bases separating 6th to 14th. Carson Benge has been a huge part of the Mets total number, already stealing five bases this season. Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto combined for 69 stolen bases and together they only have one so far this year. Even with two of the more prolific base stealers on the team down, the Mets are still making it happen.

Bo Bichette. Bichette did everything he could for the Mets Saturday going 2-for-3 hitting a home run and walking twice. He now has a five game hitting streak and has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games. In his last 10 he is hitting .333/.391/.452 which is a lot better than his season line of .250/.300/.328.

Kodai Senga delivered arguably worst start of his career Saturday in the New York Mets’ 11-6 loss to the Athletics on Saturday. In his third outing of the season, Senga only lasted 2 1/3 innings after giving up seven earned runs on eight hits (two home runs). He walked two and struck out just three after 72 pitches (40 strikes).

After giving up a leadoff hit in the first, Senga retired the next three he faced. But the first inning was the only one he made it through unscathed as things unraveled for the right-handed starter in the second.

Senga gave up back-to-back hits in the second and then after a strikeout, walked the next two he faced walking in a run. He allowed one more run in the inning before shutting things down. A lead the Mets grabbed in the first inning was short-lived as New York trailed 2-1 after two.

The third is where things went even further down hill for Senga and forced manager Carlos Mendoza to go to the bullpen. Senga gave up four straight-hits, including a double, two-run home run, and two singles. After recording his second strikeout of the day, he then gave up his second home run of the inning and it was a big three-run home run to give the Athletics seven runs.

That was all for Senga as Mendoza called in Huascar Brazobán out of the bullpen to relieve Senga. In his postgame availability, Mendoza said that Senga just didn’t have much and it all started with his command.

“He just didn’t have it (fastball command). He kept going to that sinker just to see if he could get back in counts or get strikes, but he just didn’t have a feel for his pitches,” said Mendoza. “A few forkballs there, ball out of the hand, just overall getting behind because the command wasn’t there,” said Mendoza.

Senga said after the game the biggest thing was not being able to control very many pitches near the strike zone or over the plate. He took the blame for letting the team down and spoke about how he didn’t do his job as a pitcher to get the Mets off on the right foot.

“In times like this, I think it’s really important as a starting pitcher to get the team off on the right foot,” said Senga. He ended by saying, “I wasn’t able to do that today, so that’s very regretful on my end.”

Through his first three starts, Senga owns a 7.07 ERA. He has thrown 14 total innings, giving up 11 earned runs on 17 hits (two home runs), with seven of those 11 runs being given up Saturday against the Athletics. Senga was a major wildcard entering the season given his performance and physical struggles in 2025. Saturday was not a good sign for how 2026 may go.

The Mets’ plan for Tommy Pham is to have him join Triple-A Syracuse soon to face better competition. Pham has been with Low-A St. Lucie getting reps in after not being with a team during spring training. The Mets signed Pham, who had previously been with the team in 2023, to a minor league deal on Opening Day. He could soon see himself part of the equation on the major league team with Juan Soto on the injured list.

Notably, the game was Jeff McNeil‘s first as a visitor at Citi Field.

After two innings of shutout baseball, the A’s broke through off of Holmes in the top of the third inning. Although the Mets’ righty generated a ground ball with a double play in order that could have ended the inning, a slow turn by Francisco Lindor led to an RBI single by Shea Langeliers in the subsequent at-bat. Another groundout to first ended the inning, but not before the A’s took a 1-0 lead.

Former Mets second-round pick J.T. Ginn was nearly spotless in his four innings of work for the A’s, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out four. The Mets’ scoreless streak reached 12 innings when Ginn was pulled from the game after just 68 pitches.

In the top of the sixth inning, Holmes was removed from the game due to left hamstring tightness with one out and a runner on first base. He finished with 5 1/3 IP, 5 H, 1

R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K. Tobias Myers entered in relief of Holmes, setting the next two A’s down in order to keep the score 1-0.

The Mets threatened to break their streak of 13 consecutive scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth. After back-to-back singles by Lindor and Bo Bichette, Jared Young hit a sharp ground ball to first base that led to Lindor being tagged out at third. However, after Luis Robert Jr. grounded into an inning ending double-play, the streak lived on.

Myers’ strong start to the season continued in the seventh and eighth innings, setting the first eight A’s he faced down in order. Depending on what happens with the Holmes injury, Myers could be in line for extended innings in the coming weeks along with Sean Manaea.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Carson Benge shot a one-out single down the left field line. After a Lindor fielder’s choice advanced Benge to second, Bichette struck out on a curve ball by Scott Barlow.

In the top of the ninth, Myers returned for a fourth inning of work, but things did not go as well as the first three. After the A’s got the leadoff man to second after a single and a Benge error, McNeil slashed a single to extend the A’s lead. Another hit led to the A’s having runners at second and third with nobody out. After retiring the following batter via groundout, Denzel Clarke cashed in both base runners with a two-RBI single, as the A’s lead ballooned to 4-0. Richard Lovelady relived Myers, and got the Mets out of the inning with a double-play.

The Mets failed to score in the bottom of the ninth as their scoreless streak reached 17 innings. The final score was 4-0 Athletics.

Player of the Game: Clay Holmes

Despite exiting early from his start, Holmes was excellent once again in the Mets’ loss. With his 5 1/3 innings of one-run baseball, his season ERA now sits at 1.50. Not bad for a second-year starter.

It’s been a weird last two games for the Mets. Wednesday, they just lacked a spark, allowing five runs in the first two innings and eventually losing 7-2 after scoring two runs late in the game. Thursday, the Mets got on the scoreboard early thanks to a Luis Robert Jr./strong>. solo shot, but couldn’t pile on. Things fell apart late, and the Mets lost 7-1. The vibes were good during the four-game winning streak, and now they are down again.

It’s the start of the season, though, and as quickly as things can look bad, they can turn around in an instant. Hopefully tonight is the night!

Holmes has allowed only two runs over 12 2/3 innings from seven hits and five walks while striking out nine batters. He has an early season 1.42 ERA, 3.94 FIP, 0.947 WHIP and a 261 ERA+. Grounders have been his strong suit this year. So far, he has a 65.7% ground ball rate, good enough to rank in the 95th percentile in baseball (per Baseball Savant) and has paired it with a 33.7% chase rate (74th percentile).

The Mets traded J.T. Ginn alongside Adam Oller to the Athletics for Chris Bassitt in 2022. Bassitt was a workhorse on the Mets, helping lead them to one of their best regular seasons in franchise history with 101. Ginn would make his major league debut in 2024 and ended up starting 16 games for the Athletics in 2025. Last season, he totaled 90 1/3 innings over 23 total games with a 5.08 ERA, 4.62 FIP, 1.392 WHIP and an 85 ERA+. His 2025 debut came against the Mets, where he held them to one run over 5 1/3 innings while striking out six in Sacramento. This season, he has allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings spread over two starts.

The Mets have the following career numbers against Ginn:

Brett Baty 1-2

Francisco Lindor 1-2, BB

Jorge Polanco 0-2, K

Game Notes

President of baseball operations David Stearns told reporters on Friday that the Mets are optimistic Juan Soto‘s calf injury won’t be a long-term issue, and that he’s progressing as expected.

Manager Carlos Mendoza also stated that Polanco underwent an MRI on Thursday, which showed no structural damage to his Achilles, and that he is expected to avoid being placed on the injured list while battling through bursitis. He played in three-straight games for the Mets before being benched in the series finale against Arizona.

Three Things To Watch For

The return of Jeff McNeil. McNeil was drafted by the Mets in 2013 and made his major league debut in 2018, putting up a 3.0 bWAR in his rookie year. He would go on to become a two-time All-Star and led the league in hitting one season (2022) over eight years with the Mets. The Mets broke apart their old core this past offseason, and that included trading McNeil. He is currently hitting .258/.343/.290 over 35 plate appearances with the Athletics this season. McNeil’s competitive nature was a major hallmark of his Mets career, and if anyone is going to get a “bump” of adrenaline facing his old team, it’s probably him.

Get off to a hot start! Yesterday, the Mets got off to a hot start with a solo homer by Robert Jr., and then collectively did nothing. The Mets need a game where they start scoring runs early, and keep scoring runs throughout the game to break out of their current funk. Ginn has a 6.14 ERA in the first inning. He then settles down until about the fifth inning.

Pile on the Athletics. The Athletics are currently No. 24 in the majors with a .645 OPS. For context, the Mets are No. 12 with a .682 OPS. Last season, the Mets were No. 6 (.753) and the Athletics were No. 8 (.749). They’re struggling too!

Let’s go Mets!

The history of the Mets in the Fall Classic involves some of the most memorable events ever to occur on baseball’s greatest stage. There’s the culmination of a miraculous season and a miraculous comeback that led to a second title, but their three other appearances have also produced milestones that remain special to the franchise.

10. Marathon in Oakland

Game 2 of the 1973 World Series against the A’s was (for 23 years) the longest played by time. It remains one of the craziest as well. This game lasted four hours and 13 minutes and featured a fair share of miscues on both sides. Even the umpires were prone to mistakes, none more famous than a missed call when Bud Harrelson tried to score on a fly ball to left field.

Fortunately for the Mets, they salvaged a split with a 10-7, 12-inning victory. The blinding sun did no favors to fielders trying to make otherwise routine plays. Not even Willie Mays, in his final appearance, was immune. The A’s Mike Andrews contributed two errors in the late stages, which led to him being forcibly dismissed by owner Charles O. Finley.

9. Subway Series Victory

After coming agonizingly close to beating the Yankees in the first two games in The Bronx, the Mets could claim a win once the series got back to Shea Stadium. The Yankees, as usual, didn’t make it easy.

The Mets rallied to tie it in the sixth on a Todd Zeile RBI double. Then, in the eighth, Zeile singled and Benny Agbayani drove him home with a go-ahead double. Bubba Trammell added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly. John Franco earned the win and Armando Benítez closed the door, snapping the Yankees’ incredible 14-game World Series winning streak.

8. Carter’s Two Homers

The Mets evened the ’86 World Series with the Red Sox behind two home runs from their future Hall of Fame catcher, Gary Carter, who was making his first World Series appearance after 13 big-league seasons. The first blast came in the top of the fourth against Sox starter Al Nipper, and the second was a mammoth shot over the Green Monster on a curveball from reliever Steve Crawford.

Carter’s three RBIs and multi-homer game were the driving force behind the Mets’ 6-2 victory at Fenway Park.

“All I got on my mind is getting that World Series ring,” he said in the postgame interview. Carter was ensured he’d get that ring a few days later.

7. Wright Has the Power

He had spent 12 seasons waiting to make the Fall Classic. He had spent many months just hoping to be healthy. In his first World Series at-bat in New York (and the first World Series game at Citi Field) with a runner on base, David Wright sent a towering drive over the left-center field fence and sent the crowd into a frenzy. Wright’s classic swing put the Mets on top, 2-1. New York went on to capture their lone win of the series, 9-3, with Wright tacking on two more RBIs in the sixth with a single to center.

6. Dykstra Provides a Spark

Being down 2-0 in the series following a pair of losses at home, the Mets were in desperate need of a quick start in Boston. How’s a leadoff homer in the top of the first? Lenny Dykstra went deep against Red Sox starter Oil Can Boyd on the third pitch of the game.

Dykstra’s homer kicked off a four-run inning and helped swing the momentum in New York’s favor. Bob Ojeda took it from there, delivering a wonderful start against his former team as the Mets cruised to a 7-1 victory.

5. Seaver, Swoboda Save the Day

The Mets’ ace didn’t pitch like one in the 1969 World Series opener with the Orioles. He did on this afternoon, however, with New York holding a 2-1 series edge.

Tom Seaver went all 10 innings and allowed just a run on six hits. But he had some help. With the Mets up 1-0 in the ninth and runners on the corners, Brooks Robinson drove a sinking liner to right field. Ron Swoboda was not a great defender, but he was here. In fact, he made a catch that’s still unbelievable. His diving, backhanded grab before the ball touched the ground prevented the O’s from taking the lead.

The Mets won in the bottom of the 10th on a controversial error made on a J.C. Martin bunt, giving New York the chance to close it out at home.

4. Agee Takes Over

Is it possible for one player to win a game by himself? The Mets’ center fielder put that question to the test in the first World Series game at Shea Stadium.

Tommie Agee was known best for his glove, and he showcased that with two incredible catches. In the fourth inning with men on first and third, Agee made a backhanded running catch at the 396-foot mark on a ball off the bat of Elrod Hendricks. Then in the seventh, with the bases loaded and Nolan Ryan pitching, Agee dove by the warning track in right-center and hauled in a liner by Paul Blair.

Those two defensive gems overshadowed his leadoff home run against Jim Palmer. Agee saved five runs and created one for his own team in a 5-0 Mets victory.

3. “The Dream Has Come True”

The Mets were supposed to be World Series champions from the beginning of the 1986 season. They fulfilled that promise. The way in which they did it showed that for all their dominance, they had character and resolve when it mattered most.

For all the dramatics that played out in Game 6, the winner-take-all Game 7 was anything but a sure thing for New York. Boston jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held it into the sixth. That’s when the Mets’ offense finally got to Bruce Hurst. It loaded the bases for Keith Hernandez, who delivered the biggest hit of his career when he drove in two with a single to center. New York went on to score eight runs over the final three innings — including MVP Ray Knight‘s seventh-inning homer off Calvin Schiraldi and Darryl Strawberry‘s cherry-on-top blast in the eighth.

Jesse Orosco prevented the Red Sox from evening it in the top half of the inning, holding the tying run at second. He got the final three outs in order and initiated a celebration that was some six months in the waiting.

2. The Miracle is Complete

In April 1969, humans were hundreds of thousands of miles away from setting foot on the moon just as the Mets seemed far away from a World Series title. By October 15, both distances had been covered and both feats had been achieved.

With the Orioles up 3-0 and poised to take the series back to Baltimore, Cleon Jones was hit by a pitch (the famous “shoe polish” tactic from manager Gil Hodges). Donn Clendenon belted his third homer of the series to pull New York to within a run.

Al Weis, emblematic of the unlikely nature of the Mets’ unexpected success, delivered in the seventh with a game-tying home run — the only round-tripper he hit at Shea all year — to finish off a fabulous .455 batting average over the five games. Two doubles and two Oriole errors in the eighth led to a 5-3 Mets lead.

It was an advantage the Mets’ superb big-game pitcher would protect. Jerry Koosman allowed just one hit over the final six innings while his hitters mounted their comeback. The final out came off the bat of Davey Johnson and landed in the glove of Cleon Jones in left field.

1. Game 6

It’s been talked about, shown, and debated a million times over (at least). In film, in books, and in spoken word, October 25, 1986, is among the greatest days in the history of the universe for Mets fans and (for a while) among the worst for Red Sox fans.

Wally Backman and Hernandez flew out to start the bottom of the 10th with New York down two runs. It brought Boston within one out of its first title since 1918 and the Mets to within one out of their season being a colossal disappointment.

The rest is a sequence of events that remains unbelievable. A Gary Carter single, a Kevin Mitchell single, a Ray Knight single, a wild pitch by Bob Stanley, all leading up to Mookie Wilson‘s grounder.

Good morning, Mets fans!

On Wednesday, the Mets finished off their seven-game homestand with a bang.

After a Brett Baty two-run homer off of Zack Wheeler, offense was hard to come by as it was knotted at 2-2 going into the eighth. The Mets’ defense continued to keep them in the game, as Juan Soto gunned out Nick Castellanos at the plate in the eighth inning, eventually sending the game into extras. The culmination of the Mets’ perfect homestand would come with a Starling Marte bloop single into center field, scoring Pete Alonso and securing a 4-3 win for New York. For a full game recap, click here!

This win made the Mets 12-1 to start the season at Citi Field, marking their best home record to start a season in team history.

New York has an off day on Thursday as they travel down to D.C. to kick off a four-game set against the Washington Nationals. Kodai Senga, Clay Holmes, Tylor Megill and Griffin Canning are the expected starters for that series.

Senga delivered his strongest outing of the season, tossing 6 2/3 shutout innings while allowing just four hits and two walks, striking out four. He became the first Mets starter to pitch into the seventh inning this year, giving a well-used bullpen some breathing room.

Meanwhile, Severino held his own against his old team, surrendering only one run on four hits over 5 2/3 innings, with six strikeouts and three walks. A.J.
The Mets got to Severino for one run before adding more against the Athletics’ bullpen. In the seventh, reliever Noah Murdock hit Tyrone Taylor, and Luisangel Acuña reached on a fielder’s choice. Francisco Lindor followed with an RBI double to push the lead to 2–0. The eighth saw a trio of walks to Soto, Nimmo, and Vientos that brought home another run, followed by Taylor’s triple and a balk that made it 4–0.

The offense exploded in the ninth. Mark Vientos, who drove in two on the day, added one with a double before scoring on a ground-rule double by Luis Torrens—set up by center fielder Seth Brown losing the ball in the sun. Brett Baty notched his first career triple and first RBI of the season, then came home on an error off Taylor’s bat, giving the Mets a commanding 8–0 advantage.

Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, and Luis Torrens each tallied multiple hits, as the Mets finished 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.

Player of the Game: Kodai Senga

Kodai Senga had his best start of this young season so far, pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out four on four hits and two walks. A healthy and productive Senga would go leaps and bounds for a team looking to make their mark in the National League this season.

Statistic of the Game: First Starter To Go Into Seventh

On top of Kodai Senga’s solid performance, he is the first Mets starter of 2025 to go into the seventh inning. This is big for the Mets, as they won’t have a day off until the following homestand and a staff that can save innings from the bullpen is crucial.

On Deck

The Mets are right back at it as they head to Minnesota to take on the Twins at Target Field. Clay Holmes (1-1, 4.30 ERA) toes the slab for the Mets, while Joe Ryan (1-1, 2.65 ERA) gets set on the mound for the Twins. First pitch is at 7:40 pm ET eastern and will be broadcast on SNY and Audacy Mets Radio 880 AM.

RHP Kodai Senga (1-1, 1.80) vs. RHP Luis Severino (0-2, 4.74)
WPIX

The New York Mets’ pitching has kept the Mets in every game this season, but the bats have struggled to come through. Saturday was another lackluster game for the Mets’ hitting with runners in scoring position, leading to a 3-1 loss. The Mets still have a chance this afternoon to win their fourth consecutive series before leaving Sacramento.

It’s a second straight game where the Mets will face off against a pitcher who used to be a Met. Saturday’s starter J.T. Ginn was drafted by the Mets before the Mets traded him for Chris Bassitt. Sunday, Luis Severino gets to start against his old team. Severino signed a massive three-year, $67 million deal with the Athletics to kick off their busy offseason.

Mets Lineup

Francisco Lindor – SS

Juan Soto – RF

Pete Alonso – 1B

Brandon Nimmo – LF

Mark Vientos – DH

Luis Torrens – C

Brett Baty – 3B

Tyrone Taylor – CF

Luisangel Acuña – 2B

Kodai Senga has allowed four runs (two earned) over 10 innings this season from eight hits and three walks while striking out 12. Most of the strikeouts came in his first start (eight) but also all of the runs did as well. He’s tossed exactly 77 pitches in each start.

He made a start in Oakland back in 2023 where he allowed four runs from seven hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings. It was his first rough outing in the majors, but he also wasn’t close to the pitcher that we saw by the end of the 2023 season.

The Athletics have the following career numbers against him:

Shea Langeliers 1-2, HR, K

Max Muncy – 2B

Luis Severino is already making his fourth start of the season Sunday. Over his first three, he has allowed 11 runs (10 earned) over 19 innings from 17 hits while striking out 15 (4.74 ERA, 5.41 FIP, 1.263 WHIP, and an 81 ERA+). His first start of the season against the Mariners was great; six shutout innings. All 10 runs he’s allowed have been in his last two starts, both of those starts at home. He’s allowed four homers in those starts.

Part of his success with the Mets in 2023 was his HR rate; 1.1 HR/9, one of the better rates of his career and way down from his 2.3 in his last year with the Yankees. The Mets have the following numbers against Severino:

Brett Baty 2-2, BB

Game Notes

A few different players continued their rehab stints for Single-A St. Lucie:

Jeff McNeil: 1-for-3, 2 SO

Francisco Alvarez: 0-for-4, BB, SO

Jared Young: 1-for-3

Drew Gilbert: 2-for-4, 2B, RBI

Mets pitching prospect Nolan McLean for Double-A Binghamton today: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 81 pitches (47 strikes).

Three Things To Watch For

Pitch counts for Senga. Senga has been limited to under 80 pitches in first two starts as the Mets start to ease him back in to the rotation. The Mets also desperately need a pitcher to get into the seventh inning and start to give the bullpen some relief. Because of Senga’s injury history, he’s not the best candidate to force into pitching deeper into a game if the pitch count says not to. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how many pitches Senga throws on Sunday.

Strikeouts. The Mets scored seven runs on Friday night, but had 12 strikeouts and ultimately went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Saturday, they had 10 strikeouts, but they were concentrated across four players. Pete Alonso and Starling Marte each struck out three times. Brett Baty and Tyrone Taylor each struck out twice. The Mets ended up leaving eight runners on base.

Juan Soto is getting on base. Juan Soto added two more walks yesterday, bringing his season total to 12. He’s tied for fourth in the league trailing Marcell Ozuna (16), Kyle Tucker (15) and J.P. Crawford (13). Pete Alonso, currently third in baseball with 18 RBIs, is generally feasting on Soto being on base.
