Jimenez was a third-round pick last year out of the University of Central Florida and started his first full pro season at High-A Brooklyn. But after going 12-for-97 (.124 batting average) over 24 games and getting injured, the organization demoted the 22-year-old to St. Lucie upon his return. He is the team’s No. 15 prospect on MLB Pipeline.

Chase Meggers – He was signed to a minor-league contract as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Oregon last July and went 16-for-58 (.276 batting average) in 19 games for St. Lucie.

Infielders

Elian Peña – He had two three-homer games in the DSL and showed smooth hands and good footwork at shortstop, per a scouting report on Baseball Savant. The evaluators believe he has “legitimate five-tool impact potential across the board.”

Eddinson Paulino – The 23-year-old hit 13 home runs in 360 plate appearances and posted a .626 OPS for Double-A New Hampshire (Blue Jays) last season. The Mets signed him as a minor-league free agent after Toronto opted not to put him on its 40-man roster.

Sam Robertson – He went 10-for-58 for St. Lucie after the Mets took him in the 17th round of the 2025 draft out of Northwest-Shoals (Alabama) Community College.

Kevin Villavicencio – The 22-year-old posted a .605 OPS in 83 games at St. Lucie last year and then a .590 OPS in 63 games in the Mexican Pacific Winter League.

Randy Guzman – He hit 10 homers in 75 games combined last year between St. Lucie and Rookie Ball. “He’s up there to hack,” per a Baseball Savant scouting report. “When he runs into a ball, he really runs into it with his strength.” His 90th percentile exit velocity at Low-A was higher than Konnor Griffin‘s in the same league. The Mets signed him for $10,000 out of the Dominican Republic in September 2022.

Outfielders

Sam Biller – He went 4-for-17 at St. Lucie after the Mets signed him as an undrafted free agent in August. He hit 13 home runs and posted a .978 OPS in 58 games at the University of Connecticut last year.

Simon Juan – He hit .222/.290/.340 with seven homers and stole 17 bases in 98 games at St. Lucie last season.

AJ Salgado – He hit .312/.418/.581 with 12 home runs in 64 games at UCLA last year and the Mets signed him as an undrafted free agent. He then went 19-for-72 with a home run and six steals in 23 games at St. Lucie.

JT Benson – The 24-year-old will be making his affiliated ball debut.

It is important to emphasize that these initial debuts don’t mean much, especially for an organization so skilled at developing players, because the players who are active are going straight into games before any long-term development by the Mets can have an impact. However, how they are doing is still, at the very least, interesting to look at.

Mitch Voit — INF — 1st round

A first-round pick at No. 38 overall, the Michigan University Product played in 22 games for Single-A St. Lucie to begin his professional career. He didn’t have a ton of success at the plate, hitting .235/.343/.294/.637 with one home run and two doubles. He did play better in his final 11 games than his first 11 games, hitting .302 with an .842 OPS with all three of his extra-base hits to close out the year.

What he did do well was steal bases, swiping 20 in 21 tries, an absurd number for just 22 games. He also made his fair share of defensive highlights and spent time at three spots in the infield. He mainly played second base, but got a handful of games at shortstop and one at third base. He also played some outfield in college, and his athleticism could help provide some big-time defensive versatility to his game.

Voit was a two-way player through his sophomore year of college, and has only focused exclusively on hitting for one season. In that season, he significantly improved at the plate. The hope is that, with more time devoted solely to hitting, he can unlock more of his potential, similar to how Nolan McLean and Carson Benge have elevated their game after dropping two-way status.

Antonio Jimenez — INF — 3rd round

The Mets didn’t have a second-round pick, which makes third-rounder Anderson their second selection of the draft. A significant underslot signing, Jimenez’s best trait coming out of the draft was his potential to hit for power at a middle-infield position. As is the story with many, there were some contact concerns to go with it.

In his first 26 games at Single-A, it’s oddly been the opposite. Jimenez only struck out 13.6% of the time, a well-above-average mark, while also running above-average contact rates. However, he didn’t hit the ball very hard, and didn’t elevate it much when he did. He produced just a .011 ISO, a product of one extra-base hit in 110 plate appearances.

Jimenez played mostly shortstop but also played a handful of games at third base, and has the arm strength and glove to stick at either spot.

Tyler McLoughlin — RHP — 10th round

For pitchers, especially in small sample sizes, stats like ERA don’t really matter. McLoughlin is the perfect example: he gave up two earned runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. That’s a 7.71 ERA! Ugly. But in such a small sample size, rate stats like ERA are far from relevant.

Instead, look at the stuff—it looked really solid. All three variations of his fastball looked good, and the slider and curveball looked good enough for this point in his development. There are things to work with here.

Truman Pauley — RHP — 12th round

Saying ERA doesn’t matter in small sample sizes cuts both ways. Pauley was great statistically, giving up one earned run in 4 1/3 innings, a 2.08 ERA. He actually never gave up a hit, but walked four.

Pauley’s stuff also plays. He got 18.9 inches of IVB on his four-seam, a plus number, and got good results from it. His slider also looked good, and it looks like he tested out a handful of other pitches too (or they were just tagged wrong). He just didn’t throw a lot of strikes.

Zack Mack — RHP — 16th round

Zack Mack, what a great name. He threw 1 1/3 scoreless in two games for St. Lucie and allowed just one baserunner on a walk.

His stuff didn’t jump off the page, and it looks like he’d be better served leaning into a sinker or cutter instead of the underwhelming four-seam. He also hit the IL at the end of the season.

Sam Robertson — INF — 17th round

Sam Robertson struggled in his cup of coffee with the St. Lucie Mets, no other way around it. He hit .172 with a .466 OPS and zero extra-base hits while striking out over one-third of the time. He drew a handful of walks, but other than that, there wasn’t really anything redeeming about his 20 games. The only thing to say, really, is it’s just 20 games.

Joe Scarborough — RHP — 19th round

Joe Scarborough pitched to a 27.00 ERA—yikes! In other words, he threw 2/3 of an inning and gave up two earned runs. He had walk troubles, issuing three free passes in his lone outing, but the stuff looked good.

He has a quality sinker. Yes, that’s basically all he threw, but the handful of other pitches he tossed looked solid. For a 19th-round pick, even one plus pitch, like that sinker, is a big win.

Garrett Stratton — RHP — 20th round

Stratton made it into one game this season and threw a clean inning, which (of course) is never a bad thing.

He only threw 10 pitches, and none of them were breaking pitches, so there’s really not much to go on here. For a pitcher making their professional debut, though, it’s not uncommon to see them just come throwing darts and only darts. We’ll get a look at the rest of the arsenal next year.

While his OPS sits at a modest .716, he’s batting .291 with a .344 on-base percentage – solid production for a player with his speed on the bases.

• RHP Brandon Sproat (4.24 ERA): 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K

After a rough outing last time, Brandon Sproat bounced back Tuesday with six innings of one-run ball, striking out eight (one shy of his season high) and generating 12 whiffs.

Eighteen-year-old Joel Lara surrendered his first earned run in Low-A ball. While command remains a concern (34 walks in 53 innings), his fastball touches 97 mph and he continues to miss bats.

The Mets Dominican Summer League teams wrapped up their season on Tuesday – DSL Mets Blue lost 7-2, while DSL Mets Orange won 9-8. Super prospect in the making, Elian Peña, wrapped up his impressive first year of professional baseball, slashing .292/.421/.528 (.949 OPS) and nine home runs in 55 games.

When you look at Voit, he is a player who went from being a pitcher at Michigan to eventually playing second base full-time this past season.

At Michigan this year, Voit had a slash line of .346/.471/.668 with 14 home runs, 60 RBIs, 14 steals, and an OPS of 1.140. That success allowed him to be named to the D1 Baseball All-America 3rd team this year. He was listed as the 63rd best prospect by MLB Pipeline, who talked about the improvements he made in his swing this year.

“Voit has significantly improved his approach, making better swing decisions and barreling balls more regularly. His right-handed stroke can get rotational at times and he can get pull-happy, but he also hits the ball hard and has feel for launching balls in the air. His power plays from the left-field line to right-center and could produce 15-20 homers per season.”

Voit began his collegiate career as a third baseman and a closer (five saves in 19 appearances, 3.25 ERA). In 2024, he joined the Michigan rotation (5.49 ERA in 10 starts) in addition to playing first base and in the outfield. Before the 2025 season, he had to undergo internal brace surgery on his elbow, which caused him to solely focus on hitting this year as he moved over to second base.

One draft analyst who was high on Voit’s skills coming into the MLB Draft was Tyler Jennings of Just Baseball.  He mentioned that a big key for the junior this year was that he cut down on his strikeout rate and increased his walk rate, which is a great sign in his development as a hitter.

One of the things that will help Voit in his transition to professional baseball is his ability to play different positions. He told Baseball Prospect Journal back in June that his versatility is something he is very proud of.

“My versatility as a position player is really important…Whatever team I’m on, it helps everybody. My dependability with the bat is a strength, especially in important moments when you need a spark or need someone to come through in the clutch.”

Voit echoed those thoughts in his post-draft meeting with the media, where he viewed himself as a winning player.

“I’m a winner plainly put. Do anything that it takes for the team to win. I just go out there and love the game, enjoy the game, and play to win. That’s my goal and everything else falls in line. 

“I have so many things that I use to help me win at any given moment, whether it’s the ability to slow my heart rate down in a big situation and come through for the team, or whether it’s always being a spark in the lineup, or always being a lockdown defender. Something I got to showcase a lot more of this year is my ability to run the bases and use that to my advantage.” 

With Voit looking to be more of a hitter at this stage of his career, it will be interesting to watch how his power tool emerges to go with the potential he has in wreaking havoc on the bases. The slot value listed for this pick is $2.57 million.

In Round 3, the Mets would stay in the infield by going with Jimenez. He just finished his sophomore year at UCF after transferring from Miami (Florida). The 21-year-old does still have two years of draft eligibility left. With the Mets having the second-lowest bonus pool ($5,465,900), they must think they have a great chance of landing a player of Jimenez’s talent. The slot value for this pick is $752,000.

With the Golden Knights this past season, Jimenez shone in Big 12 play. In 55 games, he had a slash line of .329/.407/.575 with 11 home runs, 51 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, and a .982 OPS. As our own Jack Ramsey wrote, Jimenez’s strong swing gave him the ability to get extra bases at a consistent rate.

“Jimenez has a sweet swing from the right side, posing a legitimate power threat while being able to utilize his speed to generate extra base-hits where there otherwise might not be. Overall, he tallied 27 total extra-base hits in 55 games for UCF. Jimenez also shows a willingness to use the entire field, including the opposite field.”

As for his best tool, MLB Pipeline (172nd-ranked prospect) says that it is Jimenez’s defense that stands out at shortstop.

“Jimenez’s standout defensive tool is his easily plus arm that works from anywhere on the infield. He has decent actions and a chance to stick at shortstop with an overall improved defensive game, though he can get a little too flashy at times.”

The Mets’ director of amateur scouting, Drew Touissaint, spoke after Night 1 and talked about how they believe Jimenez can stick at shortstop as he progresses in his professional career.

Jimenez began his collegiate career at the University of Miami before transferring north to UCF for his sophomore season. A larger shortstop, Jimenez is an incredible athlete with great range, good speed, a solid glove for the position, and a great arm. Jimenez stands at 6’1″ and 200lbs, both throwing and hitting from the right side. Jimenez was the somewhat rare draft-eligible shortstop. There is still considerable room for Jimenez to continue to grow into his frame. At 21, 15-20 pounds remain for Jimenez to add to his muscle through his minor-league career.

The Hialeah, Florida native anchored the UCF lineup through Big 12 play this year, slashing .329/,407/.575 (.982 OPS) with 11 homers and 11 stolen bases. He drove in 51 runs, typically hitting in the lower half of the order and cleaning up the heart of the order. He excelled in a position that allowed him to drive in runs and display his above-average raw power.

Jimenez was also a staple on the up the middle of the diamond, playing exclusively shortstop for the Knights. Jimenez has the range to play either side of second base, but his plus arm allows him to play shortstop effectively. His arm also gives him a decent chance to remain at shortstop long-term.

The 21-year-old has a solid eye, walking 25 times during his sophomore season. The strikeout bug did ail him to an extent, punched out 46 times during the season. Jimenez is said to struggle with breaking pitches that fall out of the strike zone, but is incredibly well-suited at mashing fastballs.

MLB Pipeline ranked Jimenez as their 172nd-ranked player. On his offensive profile, they scout that “his swing works particularly well on pitches middle-in, and he’ll show off at least above-average raw power to his pull side, getting to it consistently in games this year.”

Despite only being a sophomore, Jimenez was one of the best collegiate bats in the country. He posted one of the highest OPS marks in the Big 12, one of college baseball’s premier conferences. Of note, 2024 first-round selection Carson Benge and 2023 third-rounder Nolan McLean are Big 12 products. Jimenez, overall, was one of the best shortstops in all of college baseball in 2025 and still has considerable room to grow.

The signing bonus value of the 102nd selection is $752,000. As a reminder, the Mets’ bonus pool sits at $5,465,900, the second smallest in the draft. Given that Jimenez is only a sophomore, there is no guarantee that he will sign with the Mets. He can return to school for his junior year in Orlando and still have two seasons left while also being draft-eligible for both seasons.
