No. 10: Mitch Voit, 2B

B/T: R/R, Age: 21
Height: 6-0, Weight: 201 lb
Acquired: Drafted in the 2025 MLB Amateur Draft (1st round; 38th)
Position: 2B/SS/3B
2025 Stats (A): 99 PA, .235/.343/.294 (.638 OPS), 1 HR, 8 RBIs, 20 SB
ETA: 2028

Player Profile

The New York Mets drafted infielder Mitch Voit out of the University of Michigan in the 2025 MLB Draft. Voit had an explosive final season with Michigan, slashing .346/.471/.668 (1.140 OPS). He walked (40) more than he struck out (34) and drove in 60 runs via 14 homers and 35 extra-base hits. This was an improvement on his 2024 season with Michigan, where he had a .945 OPS and struck out 61 times compared to only 23 walks.

Interestingly, prior to an injury that needed offseason surgery, Voit pitched in 2023 and 2024 for Michigan. He topped out at 93 mph and also featured a slider, curveball, and changeup. He had a 3.25 ERA in 2023 before that figure ballooning to 5.49 in 2024. He is just focusing on hitting going forward.

Voit, the 38th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, made his professional debut in 2025 with Single-A St. Lucie. He struggled at the plate through 85 at-bats, slashing .235/.343/.294 (.628 OPS). He was only able to muster three extra-base hits. Voit did, however, impress on the bases, stealing 20 bags with only one caught stealing. He only had 19 stolen bases across his collegiate career.

It will be a big first full professional season for Voit in 2026. It looks like he will begin the 2026 season with High-A Brooklyn.

Standout Stat

Voit’s 95% stolen base success rate after making his professional debut with Single-A St. Lucie was impressive. As mentioned, he had only 19 stolen bases across his college career and stole 20 in 99 plate appearances in his first taste of professional action.

No. 9: Will Watson, RHP

B/T: R/R Age: 23
Height: 6-1, Weight: 180 lb
Acquired: Drafted in the 2024 MLB Amateur Draft (7th round)
Position: RHP
2025 Stats (A/A+/AA): 121.1 IP, 28 G/23 GS, 2.60 ERA, 142 SO, 58 BB
ETA: 2027

Player Profile

Will Watson’s final season of collegiate baseball was played with Southern California in the then Pac-12 Conference. Watson’s 3.93 ERA across 50 1/3 innings that season was enough to get him drafted by the New York Mets in the seventh round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Watson had a cup of coffee with Single-A St. Lucie to end that 2024 season, allowing one run with three strikeouts across 2 2/3 innings.

In 2025, his first full professional season, Watson quickly made his way through the ranks of the organization, beginning in St. Lucie (Single-A) and ending the season with Binghamton (Double-A). After 39 1/3 innings with a 3.66 ERA and 43 strikeouts, he was promoted to High-A Brooklyn. With the Cyclones, Watson posted a stellar 1.70 ERA across 63 2/3 innings, striking out 77. He then ended the season in Double-A Binghamton, posting a 3.44 ERA across 18 1/3 innings with 22 strikeouts.

Across those three levels of appearances, Watson primarily served as a starter (28 appearances with 23 starts). Watson began as a relief pitcher at NCAA’s Division III level in 2022 (1.82 ERA across 34 2/3 innings) before slowly transitioning to a starter’s role with USC in 2024.

A key for Watson will be decreasing the walk rate. After issuing 27 walks across 50 1/3 innings with USC in 2024, he lowered it to a 11.6% BB% in 2025. Continually decreasing that figure will be big in his development.

Standout Stat

Among 236 pitchers to throw at least 50 innings in High-A last year, Watson’s 1.70 ERA ranked sixth-lowest.

Elian Peña.

No. 8: Elian Peña, SS

B/T: L/R, Age: 18
Height: 5-10, Weight: 180 lb
Acquired: International free agent
Position: SS/2B
2025 Stats: (DSL): 221 PA, .292/.421/.528 (.949 OPS), 9 HRs, 33 RBIs, 21 SB
ETA: 2030

Player Profile

The New York Mets dished out a $5 million bonus to Elian Peña, giving him the largest bonus for a Latin American during the 2025 signing period. In what started out as a very encouraging 2025 season started very poorly as Peña started his professional career 0-for-26, but finished with a bang, hitting .342 to end the year.

Overall, despite the slow start, Pena still posted a .949 OPS and a .421 on-base percentage across 221 total plate appearances for Mets Orange of the Dominican Summer League. He walked just as much as he struck out (36 each) and stole 21 bases (caught stealing four times).

Notably, Peña posted a three-home run game twice in 2025. According to Brendan Samson, “Peña became just the third player since 2005 to tally two three-homer performances in the same season before turning 20 years old, joining Travis Denker (2005) and Joey Gallo (2013).” Additionally, “Peña is the only player to notch two three-homer games in his first season as a professional since such stats started being archived in 2005 — and just the sixth player 18 or younger to record even a single three-homer game over that span.”

Positionally, Baseball America projects Peña to move over to third base at some point due to, “questionable hands and range.” He played second base and shortstop in 2025. Peña will make his stateside debut in 2026.

Standout Stat

Among 304 qualified hitters in the Dominican Summer League last season, Peña’s 149 wRC ranked 12th.

Jack Wenninger Photo by Ed Delany of Metsmerized

Player Profile

Jack Wenninger began his college career with Murray State in the Ohio Valley before transferring and concluding his career with Illinois in the Big-10 Conference. The New York Mets drafted him in the sixth round of 2023.

Wenninger’s first full professional season was 2024, when he split time between Single-A and High-A, posting a 4.30 ERA across 115 innings. He struck out 140 over that time. Wenninger took a huge leap in 2025, breaking out, as he posted a starling 2.92 ERA across 135 2/3 innings with 147 strikeouts. The analytics backed up his strong season, as he posted a 3.05 xFIP alongside a 2.92 ERA.

Wenninger relies on a mid-90 mph fastball and an elite changeup/splitter to get batters out. He also features a slider and a new-look curveball. Importantly, Wenninger excels at throwing strikes as his 7.6% BB% is well below the minor-league average.

Player Profile

Jacob Reimer hit .265 in his first full professional season in 2023, but lacked power as his .375 slugging percentage showed. Unfortunately, he missed all but 25 games in 2024 due to a hamstring injury. Healthy, Reimer broke out in a big way in 2025.

With High-A Brooklyn, Reimer posted a .887 OPS across 229 at-bats in 2025. He was subsequently promoted and finished the season at the Double-A level, continuing his strong play at the next level with a .843 OPS. Overall, he drove in 77 runs with 17 homers and 32 doubles.

To continue growing, Reimer will need to cut down on his strikeouts. He struck out 112 times across 444 at-bats, 25% of the time, which is on the higher end of the average in the minor leagues. Reimer also committed 16 errors at third base in 2025.

Standout Stat

Reimer’s 77 total RBIs across the High-A and Double-A levels ranked 62nd among 3,620 minor leaguers at any level last season.

Like a wide number of people in the Northeast, the Subway Series came south for the winter.

On Sunday, the New York Mets and New York Yankees faced off in Port St. Lucie. The two teams, while not having their full rosters, still had a few key contributors in the lineup on hand for the game. And for the Mets, Freddy Peralta was set to take the mound, providing fans another good look at one of the best pitchers on the roster.

How did things transpire? And what were some of the main talking points of the day? Follow along as we dive into all of it!

Carlos Mendoza Speaks to the Media

Ahead of the game against the Yankees, manager Carlos Mendoza said that the plan is for Freddy Peralta to go “55 pitches” or three innings on the mound. He also stated that the team is looking to “ramp up” the rest of the pitchers in the coming days.

Asked about Carson Benge playing center field, Mendoza said that he wants to put him in positions that could happen if he is with the team. He added that they are getting him reps there, along with Mike Tauchman, so that they can be comfortable. And when asked about Benge’s chances of making the Opening Day roster, Mendoza said that it is a nice competition, but also said “we’ll see” with a smile.

Additionally, Mendoza said that right-handed pitcher Robert Stock will undergo surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome and called the injury “very unfortunate.” He also added that left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell experienced shoulder discomfort and will not start tomorrow against the Marlins.

On a more positive note, Mendoza said that they are aiming for center fielder Luis Robert to get into MLB spring training action by Thursday and said that presumptive closer Devin Williams is, “in a really good spot.” He also praised the pitching of prospects Ryan Lambert and Jack Wenninger, along with starter Kodai Senga.

Freddy Peralta and Lineup Find Success Against Yankees

Things did not start in the smoothest fashion for Freddy Peralta against the Yankees, but they ended on a major high note.

After a first inning in which he allowed two runs (one due to some bad luck), the Mets’ new ace locked in and shutdown the Mets’ cross-town rival for two consecutive innings. Using his fastball, change-up, and curveball trio, Peralta struck out the last two batters of the second inning and the first two batters of the third inning on six pitches. He eliminated any hard contact and kept the Yankee hitters guessing, allowing him to cruise through them.

Peralta, speaking after his outing on television, said that he felt “really good” during his outing and that everything was working the right way. In his press conference, Peralta said that after his first inning of work, he made an adjustment with catcher Francisco Alvarez. Working wth Alvarez, the standout pitcher shifted to using more change-ups and curveballs, causing him to “feel good” about the results. Additionally, Peralta spoke about what it has been like working with Alvarez.

“I had conversations with him before we got to spring training. Even back then, I knew he would be really good, because he makes you do well. Whether it is for yourself, for the team, or for everything. He showed me that he wants to win and that he cares about it. He cares about performance. That’s number No. 1 for a catcher. That’s very important, whether it is for us, for him, or for the whole team.”

Freddy Peralta cruised through the 3rd inning with ease. He struck out Escarra and Lombard Jr. on six total pitches, using his curveball as the knockout blow each time. He then forced Spencer Jones to ground out. Really good finish to the outing for Peralta. #Mets

On the hitting side of things, Brett Baty, Francisco Alvarez, and Carson Benge each had really good days at the plate.

The catcher, in two separate at-bats, laced singles to right field, with the second one being at 104.3 mph. Baty, who had a nice day against the Cardinals in Jupiter on Friday, continued rolling against the Yankees. The versatile infielder/outfielder notched a walk and had an RBI double in the third inning. Facing Ryan Weathers, a lefty, Baty smoked the ball at 103.8 mph the other way.

As for Carson Benge, the prized outfield prospect continues to improve every game, and today was no different.

In his first at-bat, Benge found a wicked hop in the grass, driving in a run with what ended up being an infield single. In his second at-bat, Benge smoked a ball to left field at 98 mph off left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers. And while it was an out, Benge’s third at-bat ended in a line drive to the left fielder.

Whether it has been his eye, contact ability, fielding, or base running, Benge has been providing value game in and game out for the Mets. In his postgame press conference, Mendoza highlighted this and called Benge, along with A.J. Ewing, “very exciting” players. If the right fielder keeps playing at this type of level, it is going to be very hard to keep him out of Queens for an extended period.

-Asked about Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing, Mendoza called them “very exciting.” Lauded their ability to impact the game in so many ways. Highlighted their two-strike approach, how they’re running the bases, and how they’re playing the field.

Other Notes

A.J. Ewing is a really strong prospect. He had yet another hit today, scorching the ball the other way to give the Mets what ended up being a decisive lead.

Jacob Reimer smoked a double at 106.5 mph today. His transcendence up prospect rankings should continue this year.

Jorge Polanco was smoking the ball today, even if it did not find grass. He had a home run robbed on a 101.4 mph ball to deep right field.

Kodai Senga and Jack Wenninger both had encouraging outings on Saturday for the New York Mets. Senga’s velocity ticked up and Wenninger was lights out as the Mets defeated the Cardinals 3-2.

Off the heels of recovering from a hamstring strain last season, Senga was back on the mound for his first start of spring on Saturday. He threw 2 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits and struck out two. His first strikeout was on an 87 mph slider. Overall he threw 50 pitches (34 for strikes).

While he did give up two long balls Saturday, what right-handed starter and the Mets were happy about is his up-tick in velocity. Senga clocked a fastball at 98.9 mph and averaged around 96.7 mph on his fastball overall, an up-tick from last season. Home runs aside, it was a productive spring outing for Senga and the Mets were pleased.

Senga spoke to the media following his outing on Saturday. He said, “This outing was really good. I think it’s pretty clear when I’m not feeling great, the velo doesn’t tick up like that,” he noted.

Jim Rassol-Imagn Images

He stated one of the most important things he did was making some mechanical changes. “Battling back from that injury in 2024, getting myself, getting my body right to where I need to be so that I can perform and I feel like I’m there right now.” Senga said he still has a lot to prove this season coming into the season. He talked about how it’s either you perform or you don’t, and for him, he hasn’t performed to his peak yet.

After Senga, and some other strong performances out of the bullpen, Jack Wenninger closed out the day emphatically for New York. He threw three shutout innings, giving up just three hits and he struck out five as he continues to make a great case for himself ahead of the camp break.

Notably, Wenninger got 11 swings-and-misses on 25 swings, seven of which came on his splitter. He also touched 97.4 mph, a great sign for his velocity as well for the Mets’ No. 7 prospect.

He now has a 2.70 ERA over the course of 6 2/3 innings this spring. The right-handed pitcher has 10 strikeouts to go along with the two earned runs.

The New York Mets continued their spring training schedule on Sunday at Clover Park against the Houston Astros. Clay Holmes made his final start prior to heading to represent Team United States at the World Baseball Classic. In the contest, the Mets and Astros were tied at three until the bottom of the ninth inning when Yonatan Henriquez walked it off for New York.

The aforementioned Holmes threw four innings of one-run ball. He allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out for over those four innings of work. Through two spring appearances, Holmes has thrown 7 2/3 innings allowing four hits and three runs to go along with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Behind Holmes, the Mets only allowed two more runs. Notably, top prospect Jack Wenninger struggled mightily with his control. Across two separate appearances in the same game, Wenninger threw 1 2/3 innings allowing two runs due to the five walks he gave up.

Elsewhere, Bryce Conley, Anderson Severino, and Matt Turner combined to string together 3 1/3 innings of scoreless ball.

Offensively, the Mets were relatively quiet. The scoring came in the game’s fourth and seventh innings prior to the walk-off in the ninth. In the fourth, Tyrone Taylor hit a solo homer, his second of spring training. Then, the red-hot Cristian Pache lined a ball to center field with two outs to bring around Christian Arroyo who walked earlier in the inning. In the seventh, Chris Suero hit a ball over the left-field fence. Suero had a .837 OPS in High-A prior to getting a promotion to Double-A in 2025.

To close the scoring in the ninth, Austin Barnes led off the inning with a double to the gap. Jackson Cluff was able to move the runner to third base via a dribbler right at the plate. Following that, Yonatan Henriquez lined a ball over the second baseman into left field with two outs to bring home the game-winning run. Henriquez, 21, spent 2025 between the Single-A and High-A levels posting a respectable .746 OPS to go along with 35 stolen bases.

Player of the Game: Cristian Pache

Cristian Pache continued his strong spring training with a run-scoring hit as well as a walk, reaching base in each of his at-bats. Pache is now 8-for-11 with a 1.182 OPS this spring.

On Deck

The Mets are off on Monday before playing two exhibition games against Nicaragua and Israel, respectively, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Spring training action will resume Thursday, March 5 against the Washington Nationals. The game is set to take place at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The New York Mets’ pitching staff was nearly unhittable in Sunday’s spring training opener against the Miami Marlins. The Mets utilized seven pitchers who combined to give up just two runs (one earned) on two hits, three walks, and combined to strikeout nine.

Former KBO arm Brandon Waddell started the game for the Mets. He threw two perfect frames with three strikeouts.

Waddell spoke to the media after the game and said the plan is for him to stay stretched out and pitch multiple innings during his spring outings.

He was followed by Carl Edwards Jr. who shutdown the side in the third before finding himself struggling a bit in the fourth inning.

He gave up a lead-off walk to start the frame before retiring the next two he faced. He then walked Griffin Conine and was charged with a balk with Connor Norby at the plate to advance the runners. Edwards ultimately allowed one of the Mets’ two runs in the game.

Joe Jacques, who the Mets signed as a free agent in October, and invited to major league camp, pitched the sixth. He gave up the other run in the contest, this time earned.

Huascar Brazobán pitched the fifth and retired the side in order with two strikeouts.

Likely minor-leaguers Austin Warren, Ben Simon, and Aaron Rozek finished out the afternoon for the Mets, each pitching one inning, respectively. Warren struck out two in a perfect frame in a great inning of work. Simon gave up just one walk and Rozek allowed just one hit, but the last three pitchers on the day did not give up any runs as they closed out the day with three scoreless frames.

It was a great start to the spring for the Mets’ pitchers.

The New York Mets’ spring training slate begins on February 21 against the Miami Marlins. During that time you will see several different players get some time with the club. Several of those individuals will be non-roster invitees which the Mets have been signing throughout the offseason.

Non-roster invitees are players that are not on a team’s 40-man roster but are invited to spring training to participate and fight for a potential 40-man roster spot.

Here is the current list of non-roster invitees the Mets are expected to have according to Fangraphs:

Jackson Cluff, INF

Jose Rojas, OF/3B

Jose Ramos, OF

Cristian Pache, OF

Robert Stock, RHP

Carl Edwards Jr., RHP

Nick Burdi, RHP

Joe Jacques, RHP

Anderson Severino, LHP

Kevin Herget, RHP

It remains to be seen if any of the above will make an impact for the Mets in 2026, let alone remain with the team through spring training. Regardless, it is always worthwhile to keep track of some of the different names you will surely see throughout the spring.
