The New York Mets announced on Monday morning that Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez will participate in Old Timers’ Day on August 27 at Citi Field.

Martinez, 50, had a 3.88 ERA spanning four seasons with the Mets from 2005 through 2008. He was a two-time All-Star with the Mets including his first season when he finished with a 2.82 ERA and a major league best 0.949 WHIP.

In a move that drew universal praise from the Mets fan base earlier back in February of this year, the organization announced the long-awaited return of Old Timers’ Day, an event that last took place in 1994, with this year’s Old Timers’ Day taking place prior to the Saturday, August 27 game vs. Colorado.

The Old Timers’ Day player introductions will begin at 5 p.m. ahead of the scheduled 7:10 p.m. game vs. the Rockies.

Other players that had previously committed to being at the event include Howard Johnson, Ken MacKenzie, Billy Wagner, Frank ThomasRon SwobodaJon Matlack, Felix Millán, Mookie WilsonHoward Johnson, Bobby Ojeda, Robin VenturaTurk Wendell, Endy Chávez, Cliff Floyd and Daniel Murphy.
