The Mets were unable to get their bats going for the second straight day and Carlos Carrasco struggled in his return from the injured list as they dropped the series finale to the Nationals, 7-1. A Jeff McNeil error opened the floodgates for a four-run Washington rally in the third inning, ending Carrasco’s day after just 2 2/3 innings. He threw 54 pitches and was tagged for six hits and two walks. Trevor Williams pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing a two-run homer to César Hernández. With the Braves defeating the Marlins, the Mets’ lead in the NL East is trimmed to just one game.

The Mets are now in Pittsburgh to begin a three-game series with the Pirates, a start of a six-game road trip. Taijuan Walker (10-3, 3.45 ERA) will take the mound against right-hander Mitch Keller (4-10, 4.43 ERA). While they currently sit in last place in the NL Central, the Pirates won four of the seven matchups between the two teams last year and the Mets are only 29-35 all-time at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 pm.
