Mattingly said owner Bruce Sherman and general manager Kim Ng gave him the blessing to leave the team, though he isn’t planning on retiring. In his seven years at the helm in Miami, Donnie Baseball has gone 437-583 (.428), winning NL Manager of the Year in the 2020 season for guiding the team to the postseason.

Max Scherzer was solid on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing four hits, one run, and one walk with seven strikeouts. With the Braves also winning, the Mets hold a 1.5-game lead heading into an off day today. They welcome the Marlins to town for a two-game series starting Tuesday.

Starling Marte underwent a CT scan on his right middle finger, which showed progress in its healing. He will continue baseball activities as tolerated.

The Rays are planning to activate Tyler Glasnow on Wednesday according to manager Kevin Cash. The fireballing righty underwent Tommy John Surgery last summer. He will be limited to about 45 pitches against the Guardians.
