Don Mattingly and the Marlins have agreed that this year will be his last season as the team’s manager. Mattingly said owner Bruce Sherman and general manager Kim Ng gave him the blessing to leave the team, though he isn’t planning on retiring. In his seven years at the helm in Miami, Donnie Baseball has gone 437-583 (.428), winning NL Manager of the Year in the 2020 season for guiding the team to the postseason.

The Mets scored early and often, banging out 19 hits in a 13-4 beatdown win over the A’s in their series finale in Oakland. Seven of the nine starting position players in the Mets’ lineup recorded multiple hits, and everyone in the lineup reached base. Pete Alonso went 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and five RBIs, giving him a new franchise-record 128 RBIs on the year. Max Scherzer was solid on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing four hits, one run, and one walk with seven strikeouts. With the Braves also winning, the Mets hold a 1.5-game lead heading into an off day today. They welcome the Marlins to town for a two-game series starting Tuesday.
Starling Marte underwent a CT scan on his right middle finger, which showed progress in its healing. He will continue baseball activities as tolerated.

The 27-year-old has battled injuries and struggled badly ever since he finished as the runner-up to Shohei Ohtani in the Rookie of Year vote in 2018. This year, Andújar has hit just .229/.250/.281 with one homer in 100 plate appearances.
The Rays are planning to activate Tyler Glasnow on Wednesday according to manager Kevin Cash. The fireballing righty underwent Tommy John Surgery last summer. He will be limited to about 45 pitches against the Guardians.

2016: The Mets and Marlins play the first game in Miami following the tragic death of star pitcher José Fernández. Leading off the bottom of the first inning, Dee Gordon steps into the batter’s box right-handed for the first pitch. He then turns around and hits his first homer of the season off Bartolo Colón in a 7-3 Marlins victory.
2018: In the final start of his magnificent season, Jacob deGrom throws eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits and walking none with 10 strikeouts against the Braves to earn his 10th win of the season. He lowers his ERA to a minuscule 1.70 for the season. Michael Conforto and Dominic Smith both hit homers, and Seth Lugo secures the 3-0 victory with a clean ninth inning.
