We had some great discussions with Ty about his time in New York and being the last Met with a postseason hit, the announcement of the minor league players union, playing in the World Baseball Classic and Olympics for team Israel, and more!
How surprised was Kelly over the news of the minor league union? Very, but in a great way:
“It’s incredible, but also very surprising to me [that it happened so soon]. Before last year I remember people asking when I thought the guys would get housing, and I was like maybe in a couple of years it will happen and they will come around on it, and it was like boom they’re getting housing next year. Then earlier this year if you would have asked me when the minors would be unionized I would have said hopefully in five years from now we can start to get everyone together and get on the same page, and then boom again it’s just happening all at once now…it’s truly crazy.”
