In this weekly feature for MMO, I’m going to look back at the previous week’s games and share some interesting data and information that I’ve collected through various websites such as Baseball-ReferenceFanGraphs, and Baseball Savant. It’ll be a mixture of facts, stats, analytics, and general analysis.

Let’s get into the seven days between June 5 and June 11.

Mets vs. Dodgers

The Mets’ 5-4 win in extra innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers was the first time they had won a game on the road against the Dodgers after trailing in the eighth inning since July 22, 2007.

Trevor Williams tossed five innings of two-run ball without allowing a walk against the Dodgers. He became the first Mets starter to allow no more than two earned runs while not walking a batter against the Dodgers on the road since Jacob deGrom on May 10, 2016.

Mets. vs. Padres

Eduardo Escobar hit for the cycle in the Mets’ 11-5 win against the San Diego Padres on the road. He became just the 11th player in Mets history to hit for the cycle, and first since Scott Hairston on April 27, 2012.

Escobar became just the fifth Venezuelan-born player to hit for the cycle, and the first since Pablo Sandoval on September 15, 2011.

Along with hitting for the cycle, Escobar also drove in six runs for the Mets. The only other Met to hit for the cycle while driving in six runs was Kevin McReynolds on August 1, 1989.

Carlos Carrasco tossed seven innings of two-run ball, striking out 10 while not issuing a walk. He became the first Mets pitcher age 35 or older to not allow a walk while striking out double-digit batters since R.A. Dickey on August 9, 2012.

Carrasco recorded 19 swings and misses over his seven innings of work. That’s the highest total he’s recorded in a game since September 25, 2020 (20 whiffs).

Mets vs. Padres

The Mets fell to the Padres by a score of 7-0. Mets pitchers only allowed one extra-base hit to the Padres (a Jurickson Profar solo home run in the first inning). It was the first time the Mets had given up at least seven runs while allowing no more than one extra-base hit on the road since August 26, 2017, against the Washington Nationals.

Mets vs. Angels

Pete Alonso stole his second base of the season and seventh for his career. He has yet to be caught stealing in 429 career games. Since caught stealing became an official stat in 1951, only four players have stolen at least seven bases without getting caught in their first 429 games: Dave Bergman; Jeff Baker; Zack Cozart; Alonso.

David Peterson piggybacked off Tylor Megill’s first start back since he went on the IL, and recorded nine swings on his slider with five swings-and-misses (56% whiff rate). Peterson’s slider whiff% on the season is 52.7 percent, which is the fourth-highest mark among pitchers who have generated at least 50 swings against their sliders this season.

Brandon Nimmo went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, walk, and 3 RBI in the Mets’ 7-3 win. Nimmo became the first Mets hitter to record a double, homer, walk, and drive in three or more runs out of the leadoff spot since Asdrúbal Cabrera on April 27, 2018.

The Mets’ 7-5 win on Friday night was their 39th win in their first 60 games of the season. The only other Mets club with a better record through the first 60 games of a season was the 1986 team (44 wins).

Jeff McNeil recorded his 21st multi-hit game of the season. The last time a Met had more than 21 multi-hit games through the club’s first 60 games of a season was José Reyes in 2011 with 29 games.

Mets vs. Angels

Pete Alonso played in his 60th game of the season and hit his 17th home run and drove in his 55th run in Saturday’s 11-6 loss. He joined Mike Piazza (2000) and Carlos Beltrán (2006) as the only Mets to hit at least 17 homers and drive in 55 or more runs in their first 60 games of a season.

Saturday was Alonso’s 430th career game. His 123 home runs are the second-most homers hit in a player’s first 430 games; Ryan Howard is the leader with 133.

Mets pitchers allowed 11 extra-base hits to the Angels (four doubles, two triples, and five home runs). It was the first time the Mets had allowed 11 or more extra-base hits in a game since July 26, 2022, against the Atlanta Braves.
