The New York Mets are having one of their more accomplished seasons in recent memory this season. After adding Max Scherzer, Starling Marte, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar in the offseason, it seems as if this team had finally felt complete.

While we witnessed Marte, Alonso, and McNeill receive their All-Star nods for the incredible seasons that they’re having. It was the one player who didn’t receive the recognition that has seemingly flown under the radar.

Francisco Lindor is having his best season as a Met and is being overlooked by so many. Lindor was coming off a season where he struggled to find his place in the big apple. He had 104 hits, 20 home runs, and 63 RBIs in his first year as a Met while ending the season with a .230 batting average.

Many questioned if the Mets’ $300 million man would be able to bounce back in a city that could dim the lights on the brightest of stars. After the hiring of Buck Showalter and the addition of the new weapons around him in the lineup, it looks like Lindor has found his comfort zone with the franchise.

Lindor started the season on a test until he slammed a hotel door on his finger causing an injury that would set his play back a bit. He struggled a bit throughout June as he had a batting average of .202 while only hitting 4 home runs and notching 14 RBIs.

Fortunately, the finger has seemingly gotten better and Lindor has refocused himself to find his footing once again. In July, Lindor did a complete 180 as he finished the month with a .320 batting average.

He’s collected a hit in this 20 out of 21 games while currently riding a 9-game hitting streaking. Francisco has also homered in back-to-back games this week against the National as he hopes to carry this momentum towards a pivotal matchup against the Atlanta Braves.

In Lindor’s last 10 games at the plate, he’s been hitting close to a .430 batting average while hitting 4 home runs along with 9 RBIs. He currently has 19 home runs in the season which means he’s on pace to surpass Asdrubal Cabrera for the most home runs, 23, in a season by a shortstop in Mets history.

He’s also on pace to pass Jose Reyes for the most RBIs in a season by a Mets shortstop. Reyes finished the 2006 season with 81 RBIs which would mean that Lindor is currently 7 RBIs shy of the goal as he has 74 RBIs.

If Francisco Lindor and the Mets can finish the season on top of their division then the baseball world may be forced to acknowledge the greatness that has come from Lindor this season.
