On Monday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today shared the results of the first round of MLB All-Star 2026 voting. As seems to always be the case, the first returns show a bit of a popularity contest, rather than voting the best players for the game.

On the Mets side of things, only Juan Soto and Bo Bichette are in the top 10 of their respective positions. Despite Soto having the third-best OPS in the National League at .944, he is ninth among outfielders in voting with 421,513. Bichette is eighth among third basemen with 107,385 votes.

The Mets were trampled 12-0 by the Reds in the first game of a three game set in Cincinnati on Monday. After a successful weekend series against the Braves, the Mets could not carry the momentum to the road, with freshly recalled Tobias Myers allowing seven earned runs across his 1 1/3 innings pitched. The Mets will be back in action on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET, with Kodai Senga back on the mound for the first time since April 26.

Will Sammon of The Athletic reported that Christian Scott was placed on the injured list with a hip injury. Jonathan Pintaro was recalled in his place.

The Mets announced a series of moves, including Myers being recalled, with Daniel Duarte being optioned to Triple-A.

It was a rainy Sunday, with two of the four Mets’ MiLB games being cut short. The organization went 2-2, with a few promising performances and some discouraging ones. Both St. Lucie (Single-A) and Brooklyn (High-A) picked up a win, while Syracuse (Triple-A) and Binghamton (Double-A) each lost.

Jonah Tong struggled for a second straight outing since his demotion back to Triple-A. After a mixed-bag cup of coffee with the Mets, he allowed four runs on eight hits across five innings of work on Sunday, something he will certainly look to improve on moving forward.

Mitch Voit was the star of the afternoon among the top 10 prospects, going 3-for-4 in Brooklyn’s offensively powered win, adding to what has been an impressive June for the young middle infielder.

The 21-year-old was the catalyst behind an excellent Brooklyn win, who are looking to climb back into contention.

His last 10 games have been rough for the 18-year-old, as he is slashing just .154/.320/.205 with 14 strikeouts. Juan’s home run gave the Mets the jolt they needed; however, three runs were all the team needed for a win.

The St. Lucie pitching staff was excellent on Sunday, allowing just one unearned run. Rodriguez, who earned the win, was the most impressive pitcher, striking out three of his nine batters. This year, he now has a 3.00 ERA, which is only that high due to a blowup outing in his last appearance on June 10, where he allowed five earned runs in 0.1 IP.

After the Mets went down in order in the top of the first, Scott took the mound. The young righty worked around a leadoff single, keeping the game scoreless through one.

In the top of the second, Jared Young led off with a solo home run that traveled 422 feet. Scott pitched another solid frame in the bottom half of the inning, working around another leadoff single, and the Mets led 1-0 after two.

In the top of the third, Torrens roped a one-out double into the left-center field gap, before advancing on a Carson Benge flyout to center. With two outs, Bo Bichette ripped an RBI triple down the line, extending the Mets’ lead to 2-0.

In the top of the fifth, Brett Baty led off with a single. After an MJ Melendez flyout, Luis Torrens blasted a 413 foot two-run home run to dead center field, extending the Mets’ lead to 4-0.

Scott was excellent in his 5 2/3 innings of work, allowing just three hits and zero runs. The start put him in line for his second consecutive, and second career, winning decision. Huascar Brazobán came on to bail Scott out of a first-and-third, two-out jam to keep the score at 4-0 after six innings.

Brazobán stayed on for the bottom of the seventh inning and worked a scoreless frame.

Luke Weaver replaced Brazobán in the bottom of the eight inning with the Mets still leading 4-0. The right-hander worked a scoreless inning, continuing his strong pitching as of late.

In the top of the ninth, A.J. Ewing singled and managed to steal two bases. With two outs, Baty singled, extending the lead to 5-0. The run was scored off of Mason Miller.

A.J. Minter entered in the bottom of the ninth inning, looking to close out a win for the Mets. The veteran left-hander would do just that, working around a Baty error in a scoreless inning.

Player of the Game: Christian Scott

Scott turned in what was potentially his best start as a pro. Although he was unable to get out of the sixth inning, the 26-year-old worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings, with just three hits and two walks, while striking out three. Scott may be the most consistent Mets starter at the moment, with his scoreless outing lowering his ERA to 2.50 across 36 innings.

On Deck

The Mets will resume action on Saturday at 10:10 p.m. EST in the middle contest of the three-game set against the Padres. Nolan McLean will take the mound, looking to steady the ship in what has been a rough period on the mound. The game will stream live on SNY, with radio on WCBS 880, and the Audacy app.

On Monday night, Mike Puma of the NY Post reported that RHP Kodai Senga will pitch Wednesday for Syracuse, and will throw about 85 pitches. The 33-year-old could potentially return to the Mets after that start, Puma noted.

Senga’s imminent return is good news for the Mets, as they are currently only giving three pitchers traditional starts without an opener. However, Senga will need to prove he is still able to pitch at a high level. Despite his velocity being up to begin the season, things quickly unraveled for Senga, who went on the injured list after posting a 9.00 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP in his five starts between March and April.

Should his final rehab start go well, Senga will be given one more opportunity to pitch effectively at the big-league level for the Mets.

Sunday was a day of offense for one, and almost none for the rest. The organization went 2-2, with a few promising performances and some discouraging ones. Both Syracuse (Triple-A) and Brooklyn (High-A) picked up a win, with Syracuse’s being particularly impressive, while Binghamton (Double-A) and St. Lucie (Single-A) each lost.

There have been two prospects making noise in Syracuse over the past week-plus. Ryan Clifford has been a major power threat, with six home runs in his past 11 games, while the generally underperforming Kevin Parada has suddenly found his stride.

It seems that a call to Triple-A has done wonders for the 24-year-old Parada, who, since being drafted 11th overall in 2022, has severely underperformed his lofty expectations. However, since being called to Syracuse, he is batting nearly .400 with an OPS over .900 in seven games. A very welcoming sight for a prospect many deemed to have passed his timeframe for a jump to the big leagues.

Before Clifford’s 416-foot, 110.7 mph blast in the fifth, Kevin Parada kept his elite stretch of hitting since his promotion, diving in a pair of runs in the fourth. Since being promoted to Triple-A, the catcher is batting .385 with a .914 OPS, seemingly finally turning a corner in his development.

Ross had a nice outing, something that has not necessarily been easy to come by in 2026 for the Mets’ No. 17 prospect, lowering his ERA to 7.15.

As has been the case for much of the season, Binghamton struggled to hit the baseball in Sunday’s contest. The number four Mets prospect, Reimer, struggled as he has for the majority of the season, striking out twice, with his batting average dropping to .207. The troubling aspect of Reimer’s game over the past 10 games is his lack of power, mustering just two extra-base hits over the stretch while striking out 12 times.

The pitching for the Rumble Ponies on Saturday was superb, with the staff not allowing an earned run. All of their runs allowed came on a throwing error in the seventh inning. Mets’ eighth-ranked prospect Santucci delivered a superb outing, striking out five over his five innings, lowering his season ERA to 4.30. The only blemish on the outing was his inability to get past the fifth inning, something he has only done twice in his 10 starts this season.

High-A

However, the season-long struggles for the offense continue to persist heading into June. Of the nine batters in the lineup on Sunday, just four have batting averages above the Mendoza line, and just two have an OPS higher than .700. After a two-hit day yesterday that included a home run, Mitch Voit, the Mets’ sixth-best prospect, did not follow his offensive outburst with much. However, he has been heating up as of late, having nine hits, including three extra-base hits, over his last 10 contests.

If he can keep his strong pitching performances going, he could reach Double-A by the end of the season.

Despite poor play from the team, several Mets players are on track for a return to play in the coming weeks. Carlos Mendoza shared in a video from SNY Mets that Francisco Lindor has started baseball activities, although there is still no timetable for his return.

In more immediate news, there is a “good chance” that Jared Young will be activated on Tuesday, and a possibility that LHP A.J. Minter could follow the same track.

Jorge Polanco went through a full workout on Monday, and will possibly begin a rehab assignment this week. Francisco Alvarez is hot on his heels, as the catcher has already begun baseball activities and appears to be on track to beat his eight-week timetable.

Kodai Senga is getting closer to a return to play, as the righty threw a bullpen on Monday and the goal is for him to make a rehab start on Thursday.

Finally, there is still no update on Luis Robert Jr.

On Monday night, the Mets defeated the Nationals 16-7 in 12 innings. After a closely contested contest throughout, a 10-run top of the 12th inning gave the Mets a commanding lead 10-run lead. The breakout was much needed for an offense that underperformed through the first month-plus of the season.

On Monday, the Mets announced that their No. 13 ranked prospect, Zach Thornton, is being called up to the big leagues per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. He will start in place of the injured Clay Holmes, who would have been Wednesday’s starter in Washington.

This season, Thornton has been good in seven starts across Double-A and Triple-A, working to a 3.16 ERA. The 24-year-old’s last outing may have influenced the decision, pitching six one run innings, allowing just three hits while striking out nine. If Thornton can perform in his debut, he could very well stay around long-term given the timeline of Holmes’ injury.

The Mets’ No. 5 prospect, RHP Jack Wenninger, lasted just 2.1 innings in his start for Syracuse (Triple-A). The early exit was due to four walks and two runs, tying his shortest outing of the season to date.

On the other hand, Binghamton’s (Double-A) Jacob Reimer (the Mets’ fourth-best prospect per MLB Pipeline) broke out, going 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. The performance was hopefully a sign of things to come for the previously struggling 22-year-old, having struck out 38 times in his 113 at-bats this season.

The Syracuse offense solidly started the day, scoring three runs in the first six innings. In the field, Morabito made a spectacular catch in center field in the second inning, robbing a would-be two-run home run. In the top of the sixth, Hernánez singled in a run to give the team a 3-2 lead heading into the later innings. However, after that run, the Mets (Triple-A) would fail to score for the remainder of the contest, going just 2-for-11 with RISP.

As previously mentioned, Wenninger struggled in his outing on Sunday. With talks of the Mets potentially calling up a young arm to replace the injured Clay Holmes, a strong outing may have made Wenninger’s case for a call to the big leagues. However, plagued by command issues, the young righty was pulled after raising his ERA to 1.51. The most notable performance in the loss came from Lambert, who struck out the side in the fifth inning, his fastest pitch reaching 99.8 MPH. The flamethrower will be a major league candidate if he can string together a few more dominant performances.

As previously mentioned, Reimer stole the show for Binghamton in Sunday’s win. The third baseman did everything at the plate, showing off his power, speed, and plate discipline, which have been an issue in the first stretch of the season. His sixth-inning, three-run home run proved to be the difference in the game. The rest of the squad joined Reimer in his power display, totaling three home runs, including Vincent Perozo‘s first at the Double-A level. Pairing the power with going 3-for-10 with RISP, the offense made up for a poor pitching performance in a high-scoring win.

Sunday’s game began dreadfully for the Rumble Ponies’ pitching staff. Girton, who until Sunday’s start had been very solid, allowing more than two earned runs in just one start and a 3.81 ERA, imploded. His six earned runs brought his ERA up over a point, to 5.01. However, the rest of the staff responded as well as could be expected, allowing just one run while striking out nine over the final five innings.

It is hard to find many positives in Brooklyn’s (High-A) offensive performance on Sunday, as has been the case the entire season. Accumulating just four hits while going 1-for-12 with RISP resulted in yet another losing effort for a team that now sits 18 games below .500.

Mets No. 7 prospect Elian Peña got the day off for St. Lucie on Sunday after a 1-for-4 performance on Saturday. However, his absence did not hold the offense back from getting the job done. Benson, who has a .292/.370/.667 slash line in May, went hitless leading off in place of Peña, while Mets’ No. 23 prospect Guzman scored two of the three runs for St. Lucie (Single-A). Young, who was recently assigned to St. Lucie for his rehab assignment, walked while not recording a hit, signaling he still has work to do before rejoining the big league club.

• LHP Nicolas Carreno: 5.0 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, W

The Mets (Single-A) pitching staff was superb on Sunday. 19-year-old Carreno continued his excellent beginning to the season, lowering his ERA to 1.93 on the season in 28.0 IP with 42 strikeouts. The other 19-year-old Obispo matched Correndo’s level of play, going three scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 2.45, while only walking one. Hitters are batting just .209 off the young pitcher; if he can keep the walks down, he will continue to rise in the prospect rankings.

Holmes began his start in strong fashion, setting down all three Yankees in a scoreless top of the first inning with two strikeouts, the only blemish coming on catcher’s interference to back-to-back American League MVP Aaron Judge.  The Mets went down in order in the bottom of the inning, leaving the game scoreless after one.

After two strong innings from both Holmes and Schlittler, the Yankees struck first in the top of the third on an RBI double by Cody Bellinger. The scoring did not end there, as a second double, this time driving in two, by Jazz Chisholm Jr. made it 3-0 Yankees in the middle of the third inning. 

After the Mets failed to score in the bottom of the third, the Yankees loaded the bases with two outs for Judge. However, Holmes jammed the slugger, resulting in a lazy flyout, and escaped the inning unscathed.

Holmes was taken out of the game after 4 1/3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. Manager Carlos Mendoza revealed after the game that he suffered a fractured fibula on a line drive off the bat of Spencer Jones, which will keep him out for an extended period of time.

Austin Warren replaced him, and allowed the inherited runner to score to make it 4-0 Yankees.

Warren stayed on for the top of the sixth inning and set the Yankees down in order, lowering his season ERA to 0.71. The Mets came to bat in the bottom of the sixth, where they once again went down in order, mustering just one hit over six innings.

Tobias Myers replaced Warren in the top of the seventh, where the right-hander worked a scoreless inning. In the bottom of the inning, Juan Soto  finally got the Mets on the board when he hit his 250th career home run. A two-out Brett Baty walk knocked Schlittler out of the game, and a Marcus Semien infield single brought the tying run to bat. However, an A.J. Ewing flyout would strand the pair, with the score standing at 4-1 Yankees after seven.

Myers returned for the top of the eighth, where he was once again effective, pitching a second scoreless inning in relief. His season ERA dropped down to 3.25 as a result.

Craig Kimbrel relieved Myers in the top of the ninth, where he was rudely greeted by a Ben Rice solo home run. However, the veteran would limit any further damage, keeping the Yankees’ lead at 5-1.

In the bottom of the inning, Soto lead off with a walk. A Mark Vientos double play would erase the runner, before MJ Melendez tallied a two-out single. Brett Baty singled in Melendez after he took second on defensive indifference. However, a Semien lineout would spoil a rally opportunity for the Mets.

Player of the Game: Juan Soto

Despite going just 1-for-3 with a walk at the plate, Soto was responsible for the only Mets run of the game. His seventh inning home run off of Schlittler was the 250th of his career, becoming the 42nd fastest player in MLB history to reach the milestone. It was Soto’s sixth long ball of the season, and his second in as many days.

On Deck

The Mets will resume action on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. EST in the middle contest of the three-game set against the Yankees. The Mets will use an opener, likely setting up David Peterson for a bulk relief appearance. The game will stream live on FOX, with radio on WCBS 880, and the Audacy app.

On Monday night, Will Sammon of The Athletic reported that the Mets were calling up their No. 2-ranked prospect A.J. Ewing.

The move comes after the well documented struggles and injuries of the Mets, currently holding the worst record in all of Major League Baseball. With Luis Robert Jr. out, the Mets are in need of consistent center field play, and this move looks to pair that with a youth movement.

Ewing has been tearing the cover off of the ball so far this season across two levels. The 21-year-old is slashing .339/.447/.514 with 13 extra base hits, 11 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. His patient approach mixed with elite speed should help the Mets get more traffic on the base paths, and a paring with Carson Benge in the outfield will provide defensive consistency.
