After the New York Mets offense struggled to score runs in the first two games of their series with the Cincinnati Reds, the offense used two-out hitting in the third inning as part of a nine-run, 15 hit game in a 9-1 win to prevent a sweep. Pitching-wise, the Mets didn’t get much out of Tobias Myers and Kodai Senga in the first two games, but Nolan McLean had his best outing in a bit with seven strong innings and looking like the pitcher the Mets hope he can become. The Mets are now 33-41 on the season.

Nolan McLean Has Best Outing in a Month

Heading into Wednesday’s game, McLean had pitched to a 6.38 ERA over his last five starts and walking 16 batters. In his last start against the Atlanta Braves, he only went four innings and walked four batters. Against the Reds, McLean finally looked like his dominant form that made him a name to watch coming into the 2026 season. He utilized his fastball and sweeper very well, especially the fastball. 27% four-seam fastball in the outing, and 26% sinker. He struck out nine in seven innings with only just one walk. McLean’s command was as strong as it’s been in a while. It was an outing the Mets needed from McLean after the struggles of Myers and Senga, and one McLean himself needed as he was a stopper for the Mets in the win.

Offense Comes Up Big with Two-Outs

Compared to the first two games of this series, this game was a different story for the Mets with runners on base. The Mets took advantage of a mistake by the Reds to start things off. Luis Torrens tried to advance to third on a ground out by Carson Benge, and first baseman Nathaniel Lowe had Torrens, but third baseman Sal Stewart dropped the ball, and the inning continued. New York caught a break, and after a two-out walk by Bo Bichette, Juan Soto hit a blooped single to score the Mets first run of the day.

Marcus Semien then lined a base hit into left field to drive in Bichette to make it 2-0 Mets. Another RBI from Mark Vientos made it 3-0. Three two-out RBI hits for the Mets in the inning. The Mets then tacked on four more runs in the top of the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly by Vientos, another pair of two-out RBIs from Francisco Alvarez and AJ Ewing as the Mets went ahead 7-0. Ewing’s was a two-out, two-run double. Soto, Bichette, and Alvarez each had a three-hit day. After the Mets went 2-for-11 with RISP on Tuesday night, and 1-for-12 on Monday night, the Mets 7-for-13 with RISP in the win on Wednesday.

AJ Ewing Shines with the Glove Again

Ewing both contributed at the plate and on defense, and it was his defense that really helped turn the tide of the game and what could’ve been a disastrous inning. In the bottom of the third inning, the Mets made a pair of mistakes. Vientos let a throw by Zach Short get by him on a Jose Trevino ground ball. Matt McLain then doubled on a line drive that got under the glove of Soto that was ruled a double. McLean then hit Edwin Arroyo to load the bases. JJ Bleday lined a ball to right-center that Ewing dove and robbed him of an extra base-hit and what could’ve been a bases clearing double. Trevino scored, but Ewing’s stellar defense kept the Mets in-front as McLean got Stewart to ground into a force out to end the inning.

Player of the Game: Nolan McLean

McLean was simply dominant in the win with nine strikeouts over seven innings.

On Deck

The Mets will head to Philadelphia for their first series of the season with the Phillies. The Mets will send Sean Manaea to the Mets on Thursday night against Aaron Nola. The game will start at 6:40 p.m. EDT and broadcast locally on SNY and WHSQ 880am.

The Mets’ offense had a chance in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the eleventh double play of the season by Francisco Alvarez ended the game.
Offense Sputters Again & Wastes 9th-Inning Chance

Scoring two runs or fewer has been the theme of the Mets’ offense and season to this point. It happened again on Saturday against the Braves’ left-hander. The Mets tried to counter with a righty-heavy lineup by subbing left-handed hitters Jared Young, Brett Baty, and A.J. Ewing for Eric Wagaman, Videl Bruján, and Vientos. That didn’t help matters. The Mets offense notched four hits against Pérez, and the Mets finally got something going in the sixth inning after Bo Bichette doubled with one out. The Braves relieved Pérez for Dylan Lee to face Juan Soto with the Mets down 2-0. Soto popped out on the first pitch he saw, but Vientos drove in Bichette with an RBI single to left field. Lee would strike out Marcus Semien to end the inning.

The Braves bullpen, however, would halt the Mets, and New York wouldn’t show any rally until the ninth inning. Against closer Raisel Iglesias, Soto hit what looked like a leadoff home run, but Mike Yastrzemski challenged it for fan interference. The umpires overturned the play because it did not go over the wall. Soto instead went to second base for a double. Vientos would strike out swinging. Semien worked a walk with one out to bring Alvarez up as the winning run to the plate. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Alvarez grounded a sinker back to Iglesias for the double play to end the ballgame. The Mets’ offense went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position on the day.

Manaea With Another Solid Outing

On the positive side, Manaea continues to pitch very well. On a start where the Mets needed length from Manaea after Nolan McLean only went four innings and struggled again on Friday night, Manaea went six innings and struck out six and allowed two earned runs. Both runs were scored by Eli White, who hit an RBI triple and a home run off Manaea. Part of a three-hit day for White. Still, Manaea saved up the bullpen after it was used for the rest of the game on Friday. It was the first time all season Manaea went six innings, and the first time since Game 3 of the 2024 NLDS that he reached that mark.

Pulchritudinous Defense

While Carson Benge had a hitless day at the plate, he shined playing center field on Saturday, and he did it in back-to-back innings. In the sixth, Ozzie Albies drove a ball to left-center, and Benge made a leaping catch to rob him of a double. Then, in the seventh, Benge was able to recover on a fly ball hit by Austin Riley to make a diving catch.

Player of the Game: Sean Manaea

While Bo Bichette had a two-hit day and continues to take positive steps, Manaea’s six-inning, six-strikeout performance helped the Mets’ bullpen and kept them in the game.

On Deck

In the series finale on Sunday, the Mets will send Freddy Peralta to the mound against Bryce Elder. The game will be telecast locally on WPIX and broadcast on WHSQ 880AM at 1:40 pm EDT.

If there’s one thing the New York Mets could really use right now, it’s for Bo Bichette to fully get going. It seems every time he gets on a bit of an encouraging stretch, it doesn’t sustain.

On Friday night, against the National League East Division-leading Atlanta Braves, Bichette had one of his finest performances as a Met. He launched two home runs, including a grand slam, that led the Mets to a 7-5 win. Nolan McLean struggled again, but the bullpen hung on in the end. The Mets are now 31-38 on the season.

Bichette With a Six-RBI Night

On fireworks night at Citi Field, Bichette started the festivities with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning off Braves starter Spencer Strider to get the Mets on the board first. Juan Soto followed that with a home run, making it back-to-back jacks to start things off for the Mets. One inning later, the Mets loaded the bases with two outs with hits from MJ Melendez and Luis Torrens before Carson Benge reached base on a hit-by-pitch. Bichette stepped in and cleared the right field wall for an opposite-field grand slam that put the Mets up 6-2. Bichette added a sacrifice fly later in the game to make it 7-2 New York. He now has three home runs in his last two games.

Nolan McLean With Another Tough Outing

The one big negative coming out of the win was the performance of McLean, whose struggles as of late continued. The Mets were hoping his start in San Diego would get him back on the right track, but a four-inning, four-walk performance, including a second inning where he threw over 40 pitches, was not the start he or the team was looking for.

In that second inning, McLean allowed the Braves to score twice to tie the game after the Mets’ offense gave him a quick 2-0 lead. Three walks and two hits were allowed by McLean in the frame, but that included a fielding error by Jared Young at first base on a pick-off attempt that allowed Ozzie Albies, who drew the first walk of the inning, to reach second base. Dominic Smith would drive him in with a single.

McLean was struggling and loaded the bases with nobody out. This was where the best part of McLean’s night came, though; he struck out Austin Wynns, got Mauricio Dubón to pop out and Michael Harris II to ground out to keep the game even at 2-2.

Devin Williams Record First Four-Out Save Since 2023

With McLean’s outing being short, Carlos Mendoza had to ask his bullpen to pick up the slack. Cionel Pérez gave the Mets 1 1/3 innings, while Huascar Brazobán threw 1 2/3 innings of his own with four strikeouts. Brooks Raley struggled in the eighth by allowing three hits and two earned runs to make it 7-4. Mendoza subsequently called on his closer, Devin Williams, to get him four outs, something the former All-Star hadn’t done since 2023 when he was in Milwaukee. He allowed an RBI single to Eli White in the eighth but got Rowdy Tellez to fly out to end the threat.

In the ninth, Williams had to work for his save as Dubon sent him on a 14-pitch at-bat that ended in a single. Williams, though, would strike out Harris and Matt Olson to end the game. It was Williams’ tenth save of the season.

Player of the Game: Bo Bichette

Bichette had his best game as a Met with two home runs and six RBIs, leading the Mets to the win.

On Deck

The Braves will pitch Martin Perez on Saturday, while the Mets have yet to announce a starter, though the expectation is that it will be Sean Manaea. First pitch is at 4:10 pm EDT, and the game will be telecast locally on SNY and broadcast on WHSQ 880AM.

In game one of the New York Mets’ latest trip out west, their offense went back to sleep again as they were held to just two hits (both solo home runs) by Seattle Mariners pitching in a 3-2 loss at T-Mobile Park. A walk-off base hit by Cole Young off A.J. Minter in the bottom of the tenth inning to sink the Mets. That came after the Mets wasted their ghost runner chance. The positive was that Sean Manaea put up a solid outing out of the bullpen. The Mets fall to 26-34 on the season.

Mets Offense Held to Two Hits

It seems to be a theme for the Mets’ offense, or it’s just who they are at this point. After an encouraging series offensively over the weekend against the Miami Marlins, the hope was that they could carry that over on this six-game road trip out west. However, against the Mariners’ pitching, one of the best in baseball, it was going to be tough, and it proved to be a tall task on Monday night. Solo home runs by Jared Young and Marcus Siemian were all they could muster up against Mariners starter Emerson Hancock. Hancock was effective early with four perfect innings before allowing the home run to Young in the top of the fifth. The Mets struck out seven times against Hancock.

Against the Mariners’ bullpen, the offense was no-hit for the remainder of the game. In the top of the ninth against Andres Munoz, MJ Melendez reached base on a hit-by-pitch that was nullified by Brett Baty grounding into a double play.
Brooks Raley Allows Key Home Run

Brooks Raley took the ball in the seventh with the Mets up 2-1. Hoping to hand the ball off to Luke Weaver for the eighth. However, the lefty allowed a game-tying home run to Josh Naylor. It was the second home run Raley has allowed this season. Prior to the home run by Naylor, Raley had gone four consecutive appearances without allowing a run.

In what was an odd game, the first hit of the day that wasn’t a home run from either team came in the seventh inning when Raley allowed a single to Cole Young after Naylor’s game-tying homer.

Manaea Gives the Mets Length

With David Peterson back in the bullpen for the time being after he struggled again as a starter, the Mets are giving Manaea more of a chance to prove he can still be an effective starter. New York threw a bullpen game today, opening with Austin Warren. Manaea would come in as the long man. Manaea came in after Warren hit Randy Arozarena to start the second inning. From there, Manaea pitched well in five innings of work with his only blemish being a home run he allowed to Colt Emerson in the bottom of the third inning.

Aside from that, Manaea went five innings and struck out four to keep the Mets in the game, and he handed the ball off to Raley with the Mets up 2-1. It was the third consecutive good outing for Manaea out of the bullpen. Mendoza said after the game that it was the best he’s seen Manaea pitch this season.

Player of the Game: Sean Manaea

Manaea pitched very well and struck out five Mariners batters in what the Mets hope is an encouraging sign for their left-hander.

On Deck:

The Mets’ offense will face another top pitcher from the Mariners, Logan Gilbert, on Tuesday night. New York has yet to announce a starter for the game. First pitch is at 9:40 pm EST, and the game is televised locally on SNY and broadcast on WHSQ 880 AM.

For Scott, it was the first win of his major league career, and the Mets’ offense gave him some backup with six runs. The bullpen had another strong day and got the remaining 12 outs to secure the win for Scott. The Mets are now 25-33 on the season.

Scott Notches First Career Win

Right now, the Mets’ starting rotation is in flux. Clay Holmes is injured, Freddy Peralta and Nolan McLean are struggling, and David Peterson‘s struggles have resulted in him going back to the bullpen. With that, the Mets need Scott and Jonah Tong to step up. Coming off one of his better outings of the season last weekend against the Marlins, Scott was impressive again. He pitched five good innings with eight strikeouts and allowed five hits and one earned run. Scott utilized his sweeper really well, throwing it 37.5% of the time. He also threw his fastball 40.6% of the time. Scott has 13 strikeouts in his last two outings.

Senger Hits First Career Home Run

Scott wasn’t the only one on the Mets who got a first for their career in the game. Catcher Hayden Senger, who had only one hit since coming back to the major leagues after the injury to Francisco Alvarez, took a slider away for his first home run of the season over the left field wall. Senger, who turned 29 years old in April, hit six home runs in the minor leagues this season. The team was waiting for Senger to demonstrate the power they knew he had. It was also just a feel-good moment as manager Carlos Mendoza, a longtime minor leaguer who never got a chance at the high level as a player, had a big smile on his face when Senger got back into the dugout after the home run.

Benge, Ewing Impress Mazzilli

Before they were inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame, Mazzilli and Valentine spoke to the media, and one of the highlights was Mazzilli speaking about the two rookie Mets outfielders. “I love watching Ewing and Benge play”, Mazzilli said, “They have all the tools, they’re exciting. I think there are some good things ahead for those young kids. They’re impressive.” Right on cue, Benge and Ewing showed exactly why Mazzilli is a fan. Ewing made a great running catch in the fifth inning to preserve a win chance for Scott. Benge not only made a nice catch of his own on defense but also had a three-hit day at the plate and scored a run.

Mets Game Notes

Marcus Semien notched two hits, including an RBI single. Juan Soto continued his hot streak with an RBI single. Jared Young slammed his first home run of the season. Mark Vientos ripped a double off the wall in left field that gave the Mets a 2-0 lead early in the game. Cionel Perez, Huascar Brazoban, Austin Warren, and Devin Williams all pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Player of the Game: Christian Scott

With eight strikeouts in five innings, Scott earned the first win of his major league career. His comeback from Tommy John surgery continues.

On Deck:

Nolan McLean will take the mound again on Sunday afternoon, looking for a crucial bounce-back performance after a couple of clunkers in a row. The Marlins will start Janson Junk. First pitch is set for 1:40 pm EST and will be televised locally on SNY and broadcast on WHSQ 880am.

Weaver, especially, had the gutsiest performance by any Mets pitcher this season as he battled out of a bases-loaded and nobody-out jam. David Peterson was solid out of the bullpen as he went four innings and struck out eight.
Weaver began his outing by striking out Amed Rosario on a foul tip changeup. He struck out Trent Grisham on three pitches. Then followed by getting out of the jam on a force out by Anthony Volpe, keeping the Mets in the lead at 5-3. After the Mets scratched out a run in the bottom of the seventh, Weaver threw a scoreless eighth inning by getting Ben Rice to ground into a double play and Judge to fly out.

Soto Has a Big Day

Soto may not have had an RBI or a home run like on Friday night, but he was productive in other ways in Saturday’s win. He reached base four times in the win with two hits and two walks, and scored from first base on an RBI double by Mark Vientos. Soto also notched his second and third stolen bases of the season in the eighth inning.

Three RBIs For Vientos

Vientos has been an RBI machine for the Mets over the last 13 games with 12. On Saturday, he added three more to this stretch. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Vientos lined a double down the left field line to plate two. That put the Mets up 5-2. Then Vientos’s RBI groundout in the seventh inning extended the Mets’ lead to 6-3.

Benge Notches Three-Hits

While the topic of conversation about Benge will be his defense after he made his second defensive blunder in as many days, he continues to swing the bat well at the plate. He had three more hits, a double and two singles, and scored two runs. His third hit came on an infield single after his error and after getting a pep talk from manager Carlos Mendoza.

Player of the Game: Luke Weaver

Tough one to choose after the big days from Soto and Vientos. Weaver’s effort and performance give him the nod for the win. Getting out of the bases-loaded jam and giving the Mets two shutout innings to preserve a win.

On Deck

Freddy Peralta takes the mound for the Mets on Sunday against the Yankees’ right-hander Elmer Rodríguez. The game will be telecast locally on SNY and broadcast on WHSQ 880am at 1:40 pm EDT.

Another loss, and another anemic outing from the New York Mets offense as they dropped the second game of this three-game series to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1. Clay Holmes and the bullpen kept the Mets in it. However, the offense only notched three hits on the day and failed to produce against Arizona starter Merrill Kelly. Thirteen consecutive Mets batters were retired to close out the game. The Mets are now 15-23 on the season.

Mets Offense Still Searching for Answers

The Mets are missing key pieces in the lineup, such as Francisco Lindor, Luis Robert Jr., and Jorge Polanco, but even still, the futility of the offense is jarring. On Saturday against Kelly, a pitcher with a 9.95 ERA coming in, New York did very little. They allowed Kelly to pitch his best game of the season, and he looked like his old 2022-2023 form. The only run of the game came with two outs in the top of the second inning. Brett Baty launched a double that scored Marcus Semien from first base to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead.

However, from there, the Mets only got one hit the rest of the game, a Tyrone Taylor double in the fifth inning. After that double, Kelly intentionally walked Soto, and Bo Bichette flew out to end what was the Mets’ last real chance at a rally, as Bichette’s uncharacteristic struggles with runners in scoring position continue. From there, the Mets never saw a runner reach base again.

Juan Soto’s Bat Has Cooled Down

Juan Soto, despite missing some time with a calf injury, got off to a hot start with a.338 batting average, a slugging percentage of .538%, and an OPS of 980 over his first 18 games. Over his last six games now, Soto has just two hits, and on Saturday, despite being intentionally walked, he was left hitless for the fourth time in these last six games. He just hasn’t looked comfortable at the plate lately.

A cool-down period for an even hitter like Soto is understandable considering how good his start was. Still, with the Mets floundering in last place and needing wins, plus the hitters they have out with injuries and no true timetable set for their returns, they need Soto’s bat to get hot again as quickly as possible.

Holmes Battles Through for Another Solid Outing

It wasn’t an easy outing on this day for Clay Holmes. He had to fight through some early jams, and in the third inning, the Diamondbacks broke through. Holmes had two outs and nobody on until back-to-back singles by Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo. Followed by a walk to Adrian Del Castillo. With the bases loaded, Ildemaro Vargas singled to drive in Carroll and Perdomo before Holmes got Nolan Arenado to fly out to prevent more damage.

Holmes made it into the sixth inning before he allowed a two-out single to Arenado. He was then taken out of the game for Austin Warren. Overall, Holmes struck out six and suffered a hard-luck loss due to the Mets’ offense not giving him much support.

On Deck:

The Diamondbacks will pitch Eduardo Rodriguez in the series finale on Sunday. While the Mets will throw a bullpen game with Huascar Brazoban getting the start. The game will be telecast locally on SNY and broadcast on WHSQ 880AM at 4:10 pm EST.

Through the first 35 games of the 2026 season, the Mets sit at 13-22. They field what is among the worst records in all of Major League Baseball, with one of the worst-performing offenses in the game right now.

They’ve seen their season take a huge hit with a 12-game losing streak and being swept at home by teams such as the Athletics and the Colorado Rockies. There are areas to improve, and New York has been no stranger to early in-season trades in recent memory.

Let’s dive into what the front office can do right now to improve the club.

Brad Penner-Imagn Images

Finding Another Veteran Starter

While the starting pitching has been a bright spot in an otherwise dismal start for the Mets, that rotation could still use another veteran. With the struggles of Kodai Senga and David Peterson, New York has already turned to other options to fill that void. Peterson has been coming out of the bullpen, and the Mets called up Christian Scott as he gets another chance. They are also still waiting on Jonah Tong. A veteran might be what they need right now.

Luis Severino has been a topic of reunion, but the Athletics currently sit in first place in the AL West, so an early in-season trade for Severino seems unlikely at the moment.

Erik Fedde of the Chicago White Sox would be an intriguing option. Fedde has both started and come out of the bullpen for the White Sox and has pitched to a 3.42 ERA.

When the Rockies recently swept the Mets, Michael Lorenzen and Jose Quintana, another former Met, pitched well and could be had for a trade eventually.

Jonathan Hui-Imagn Images

Offensive Help

To the biggest concern of the Mets: the offense. Put simply, they’ve been dreadful, ranking toward the bottom of most offensive categories.

It doesn’t help that the injury bug has bitten the offense. Juan Soto missed two weeks with a calf injury. Then, on the same day Soto returned to the lineup, Francisco Lindor injured his calf and will be out for a significant amount of time. Jorge Polanco, whom the Mets signed to fill the void at first base, tried to play through an Achilles injury before finally going on the injured list with a wrist issue. Luis Robert Jr is currently day-to-day with a back injury. Lindor’s replacement, Ronny Mauricio, fractured his thumb over the weekend, too.

As of now, New York is hoping players such as Brett Baty and Mark Vientos step it up after early-season struggles. Carson Benge has hit well lately. A lot of the Mets’ offense depends on players simply playing better—Bo Bichette, Marcus Siemian, Lindor, Baty, and Vientos to name a few.

In terms of bats the Mets could add soon, there’s someone like Luis Arraez, who could play both second base and first base and give Polanco more at-bats at designated hitter when he returns. Arraez is batting .308 so far in 2026 with 40 hits. The San Francisco Giants are at the bottom of the NL West and are trying to compete, so they can wait until the trade deadline.

A Power Bat

Power is certainly one thing the offense is lacking. It’s not for a lack of talent, but the home run just hasn’t hit the Mets’ offense so far. A player that the Mets saw over the weekend and could help them in the power department is Jorge Soler. Soler has seven home runs and could be a big right-handed power bat at designated hitter, especially if the Mets continue to see Vientos struggle at the plate.

Will The Mets Be in Position to Make a Trade?

Teams can make an early in-season trade before the deadline. For the Mets, they may not be able to afford to wait until August 3. The Mets might have to pull the trigger now on a trade to improve elements on the team before the season really starts slipping away. That’s the position the Mets are in right now, playing below their capabilities.

Bad and weird things keep happening to the 2026 New York Mets, and those themes continued in their 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night.

Austin Warren almost pulled a rabbit out of the hat, but still, he allowed a game-winning single to Oswald Peraza. There was a play that should’ve been challenged by the Mets early in the game that ended up costing them a run. Their best hitters did not come through on multiple occasions. Even Nolan McLean did not exactly pitch his best and went four innings. They all led to another game the Mets could’ve won, but for more than one reason, they didn’t. They seem to play the same game every day. The Mets also lost Ronny Mauricio to a fractured thumb.

The Mets Don’t Challenge

In the first inning, after retiring the first two batters he faced, Nolan McLean allowed back-to-back singles to Nolan Schanuel and Jorge Soler, bringing up Jo Adell. Adell singled to right field, and Austin Slater actually threw out Soler as he tried to go to third base before Schanuel reached home plate. However, the home plate umpire ruled that Schanuel scored before the tag, and the Mets decided not to challenge. The play was reviewable, and if they had challenged, New York would’ve surely won and erased the Angels’ run. Alas, they did not, and Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead that they never should’ve had.

Bichette (Twice) & Soto Come Up Short in Big Spots

McLean allowed two more runs to score in the fourth inning, bringing the Mets down 3-1. For a while, the Mets had no answer for Angels starter Reid Detmers, as Bo Bichette‘s RBI single in the third inning was all the Mets could muster until the seventh inning, when New York started a rally. Mark Vientos started things off with a double. After a Marcus Semien single, Andy Ibáñez drove in Vientos with a sacrifice fly. Tyrone Taylor would tie the game with an RBI single of his own. Mauricio beat out an infield single by sliding into first base (which fractured his thumb in the process) to load the bases for Bichette and Soto.

Despite his RBI single from earlier, Bichette would have multiple big opportunities to put the Mets ahead. On the first occasion, he grounded into a forceout at home plate. Soto stepped up next and struck out swinging on a slider in just a four-pitch at-bat. The second shot for Bichette came with first and second and nobody out in the top of the tenth inning; he grounded into a double play. The Angels walked Soto, and then Alvarez would pop out to end the Mets’ tenth inning. With numerous starters out with injuries, the Mets need their big free agent signing from the last two offseasons to carry the load, and on Saturday night in big spots, they failed to do so.

No MVP Performance for Warren On This Day

With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the tenth inning, the Mets called on Warren again in a big spot. He walked Soler, and then a single by Adell loaded the bases up with no outs and put Warren in a jam. He almost worked a miracle. A short line out to Carson Benge by Josh Lowe did not score the runner from third, and a short fly out to Benge by Vaughn Grissom got Warren one more out away from getting this game to the eleventh inning.

With two strikes, Oswald Peraza took a Warren curveball to left field for the game-winning hit. Two strikes and two outs, Warren was that close to getting out of it, but as has been the case so far in 2026, the Mets can’t get either the big hit or the big out.

Player of the Game: Tobias Myers

After McLean went only four innings, Tobias Myers gave the Mets 2 2/3 innings to keep them in the game, as he continues to be a reliable arm out of the bullpen.

Ronny Mauricio To The IL

Just one day after his heroics on Friday night, Mauricio now joins what is becoming a laundry list of everyday players on the Mets’ injured list, along with Francisco Lindor, Jorge Polanco, and Luis Robert Jr. Even Mike Tauchman could’ve made the roster if he hadn’t gotten hurt shortly before opening day. Manager Carlos Mendoza announced after the game that Mauricio fractured his hand on the slide to first base and will now go on the injured list, shortening the Mets’ depth even more.

On Deck

In the Sunday rubber game, the Mets will send Clay Holmes to pitch against the Angels’ Jack Kochanowicz. Game time is set for 4:07 pm and will be televised locally on SNY and broadcast on WHSQ at 880am.

The New York Mets have now lost ten in a row after losing to the Chicago Cubs 4-2 on Saturday. Freddy Peralta pitched solidly, but he’d probably like to have his last two at-bats back as they resulted in walks and opened the door for the Cubs to break through a 1-1 tie game. Brooks Raley allowed a three-run home run to Carson Kelly, and the Mets’ offense once again had no answer. New York is now 7-14, they’ve lost ten straight for the first time since the Art Howe era in 2004, and the struggles continue.

Peralta Pitches Well, Up Until the End

The Mets acquired Peralta in the offseason to be a top-of-the-rotation pitcher. Their ace. Part of that job is to stop the bleeding, and the Mets right now are bleeding heavily. Peralta gave them a great outing against the Athletics last Sunday, but New York’s offense was shut down and wasted his performance. On Saturday, Peralta gave the Mets 5 2/3 productive innings, with the only blemish being a solo home run allowed to Ian Happ in the second inning. Peralta threw over 30 pitches in that inning. In the sixth inning with two outs and nobody on, Peralta got two strikes on both Happ and Seiya Suzuki. However, he was unable to finish them off and walked both of them. The Happ walk on a changeup that missed low in the dirt, and Suzuki on a slider that missed low and outside.

Raley Falters

The Mets’ bullpen has been roughed up during this losing skid, and Raley fell victim to it in this game. Manager Carlos Mendoza took Peralta out at 93 pitches, with left-handed hitter Moises Ballestros coming up. Cubs skipper Craig Counsell countered with Kelly, who took a first-pitch cutter from Raley deep for a three-run homer. It was Raley’s first home run he’s allowed since 2023. Part of the struggles the Mets have had since last June has been pitchers not getting the last out when they need it. On Saturday, it once again showed its ugly head.

Vientos Homers, but Still Not Much Scoring for Limited Mets Bats

The 4-2 loss was more or less the same story for the Mets’ offense. Mark Vientos notched his second home run of the season with a towering 434-foot bomb in the top of the second inning. That gave New York a 1-0 lead. They were able to scratch out a run on a throwing error by Nico Hoerner in the eighth, but one batter later, Vientos would ground out with runners on base to end the Mets’ rally. New York has 21 hits in this series, but that’s only resulted in six runs. The Mets went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in this game. On Friday, their offense went 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

On Deck

The Mets will turn to the struggling David Peterson on Sunday, as the Cubs will pitch Javier Assad. Game time is at 2:20, and it will be telecast on SNY and broadcast on WHSQ 880am.
