The Mets will try to escape Seattle with a win. Monday night the Mets looked listless, scoring only two runs and losing in their 12th extra-inning game of the year. Last night the Mets just got outplayed by the Mariners. The vibes were heading in a positive direction, but that momentum is quickly evaporating!

Game Notes

Francisco Alvarez went 2-f0r-3- with two doubles and an RBI in his first rehab game on Tuesday for Triple-A Syracuse. He caught five innings, too.

Jorge Polanco went 0-for-3 with a walk in the Syracuse game.

Before tonight’s game, the Mets optioned Jonah Tong to Triple-A and recalled righty Joey Gerber.

Three Things To Watch For

Carson Benge, save us! Benge went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, and all 3-RBI’s last night for the Mets. It was the fourth time in the last six games that he reached base at least twice. It was the second time in the last four games that he reached based three times. Benge is fully coming into form over the last month.

The free-swinging Mets. On Monday night the Mets struck out 12 times, with A.J. Ewing and MJ Melendez each having two strikeouts. Everyone else in the lineup, including Vientos who was a pinch hitter, had one strikeout. Yesterday the Mets struck out 11 times with Jared Young striking out three times. The only players who didn’t strikeout where MJ Melendez (pinch hitter) and Luis Torrens, who didn’t have an at bat. Not a great trend! The Mets are actually the 11th lowest for strikeouts, so the last two days are a bit of a departure from the norm.

Freddy Peralta’s Fastball. Peralta’s fastball is in the 89th percentile in run value. He’s using it about the same amount of last year (slightly more than 50% of the time). Hitters are making contact, they’re aren’t ripping it though. His fastball has a .222 BA, the lowest of his most used pitches but a .248 xBA, which is near the highest for his pitches. The slugging is low, sitting at .317. Batters are hitting his changeup with a .362 SLG and his curveball with a .568 SLG.

Let’s go Mets!

Stop me if you have heard this one before. The Mets went out to the West Coast without an off-day before travel and left their bats in New York. The pitching was strong and was able to send the Mets into extra innings before losing. The Mets are going to be extremely happy after this road trip when almost all of their remaining 100-or-so games are in the same time zone.

Hopefully the Mets were able to rest up today, ready to reset the series against the Mariners tonight.

Logan Gilbert has pitched 68 1/3 innings over 12 starts this season with a 3.69 ERA, 3.98 FIP, 1.112 WHIP and a 106 ERA+. In the month of May, Gilbert was either terrific, allowing no runs in three starts, or rough to watch, allowing 11 runs in his other two starts. In his last two starts, he has allowed no runs on seven hits over 11 2/3 innings while striking out 12 batters.

Game Notes

Francisco Alvarez went 2-for-3 with two doubles and caught six innings in his first rehab assignment tonight. He had knee surgery less than three weeks ago.

Josh Naylor isn’t starting tonight due to back spasms.

Three Things To Watch For

Huascar Brazobán: For the fifth time this season, Brazobán will open things up for the Mets. Over 25 games, Brazobán has tossed 29 innings with a 1.86 ERA, 3.21 FIP, 0.966 WHIP and a 215 ERA+. In his last outing he struck out the side in his one inning of work. He’s making a strong case to be an All-Star this season.

Marcus Semien. The Mets struggled to hit yesterday, but not Marcus Semien! Semien went 1-for-3 with a home run. Over his last three games he has gone 5-for-9 with a double, two walks and two home runs. It feels like Semien has started to turn a corner. Tonight he’s going to face a pitcher who has seen a lot and has struggled a lot against. Hot streak vs career data, who wins?

Walks and Strikeouts. The Mets are at their absolute worst when they strikeout and fail to work walks. Last night the Mets had 12 strikeouts and worked zero walks. We’ve seen this multiple times throughout the season where they just don’t look competitive, and then that listless look compounds. We’ll be looking to see if that feeling from yesterday spills over into tonight’s game.

Let’s go Mets!

The Mets look to extend their winning streak to five games tonight as they head to the West Coast … again. The Mets had their first road trip in the Eastern time zone last week, but it could only last so long. Today, they start a road trip to Seattle, then head down to San Diego.

The Mets and Mariners are both catching each other on the upswing. The Mariners, who have struggled for a large portion of the season, have won eight of their last ten and six straight. They are two games over .500, have a +30 run differential, and are in first place in the AL West. The Mets are coming off a sweep of the Marlins and a winning record in May. Let’s start this trip strong!

Starting Pitcher: Austin Warren

The Mets announced yesterday that Monday will be a bullpen game, with Austin Warren getting the ball first. Warren has pitched 19 1/3 innings over 14 games with a 1.40 ERA, 2.87 FIP, 1.190 WHIP and a 288 ERA+. He has tossed more than an inning of relief in eight games and has pitched two innings four times. Warren’s season high is 41 pitches, and he has thrown 30+ pitches a total of three times.
Three Things To Watch For

Sean Manaea. Today feels like a Sean Manaea bulk game, although the Mets explicitly said bullpen game after yesterday’s game. Earlier in the week, the Mets announced that David Peterson was moving back to the bullpen and Sean Manaea was going to the rotation. I guess we’ll see which reality it is for Manaea tonight. Manaea has pitched in 12 games, totaling 34 innings with a 5.56 ERA, 3.66 FIP, 1.618 WHIP and a 72 ERA+. In his last two outings, he has allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings from seven hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Juan Soto. Soto continued doing Juan Soto things on Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a grand slam, breaking the game open and taking the pressure off of the Mets for the rest of the afternoon. Soto now has a 2.0 bWAR and 13 home runs. Over his last 15 games, Soto has hit eight home runs, slashing .382/.469/.873.

Carson Benge. Benge had a huge weekend, going 4-for-8 with two doubles, a home run, a walk and three runs scored. RHP Janson Junk (3-5, 4.80) vs. RHP Nolan McLean (2-4, 4.40)
SNY

Last week the Miami Marlins swept the New York Mets. Now the Mets have the chance to return the favor Sunday afternoon.

All eyes are on Nolan McLean. The Mets’ young pitcher has started to stack the tough starts. Over the last few outings he has flashed his usual electric stuff, however, he’s also had bumps that spiraled into massive innings for opposing batters. McLean has tremendous stuff and the Mets need the version of him that can give the bullpen a day off.

Mets Lineup

Carson Benge – RF

Bo Bichette – SS

Juan Soto – LF

Jared Young – DH

Mark Vientos – 1B

A.J. Ewing – CF

Brett Baty – 3B

Marcus Semien – 2B

Luis Torrens – C

Starting Pitcher: Nolan McLean

Nolan McLean has made 11 starts this season totaling 61 1/3 innings with a 4.40 ERA, 3.58 FIP, 1.092 WHIP, and a 90 ERA+. In his last two starts he has allowed 16 runs (13 earned) over nine innings.

His last start was emblematic of his recent struggles. He struck out the side in the first inning before things went off the rails in the next. Before those two starts McLean had a 2.92 ERA over nine starts. This will be McLean’s first start against the Marlins and no one on the Marlins roster have faced him in an official major league game.

Marlins Lineup

Starting Pitcher: Janson Junk

Janson Junk has tossed 60 innings over 11 starts with a 4.80 ERA, 4.06 FIP, 1.300 WHIP, and an 83 ERA+ this season. Junk had two rough starts in mid-May allowing a total of 15 runs from 18 hits over 10 2/3 innings. He rebounded in his last start allowing only one run, scattering eight hits over five innings on Monday.

The Mets have the following career numbers against Junk:

Bo Bichette 3-4

Vidal Bruján 0-0, BB

MJ Melendez 0-3, 2 K

Juan Soto 1-2

Jared Young 0-1, K

Game Notes

Jorge Polanco continued his rehab Saturday playing three innings for Binghamton (Double-A) at first base. According to Mike Puma of the NY Post, the Mets are hopeful he will return for the Seattle series.

Three Things To Watch For

Under the hood. McLean still has a 3.16 xERA (75th percentile) and .216 xBA (77th percentile). His strikeout rate is still top tier (29.6%; 92nd percentile). McLean has been hit hard more recently which has seen him drop to around the middle of the league in barrel percentage and hard hit rate, but he’s still in 81st percentile for average exit velocity.

David Peterson. The Mets announced before Friday’s game that David Peterson was moving back to the bullpen with Sunday being his first available day. Peterson had two successful starts in mid-May allowing three runs off 10 hits over nine innings. His last start was pretty poor, allowing six runs off 11 hits and three walks over five innings against the Reds. In 33 1/3 innings as a starter he has a 7.56 ERA. In 20 innings as a reliever he has a 2.25 ERA.

OPS watch. Saturday, Bo Bichette was getting close again to a .600 OPS with a .592 OPS. He went 0-for-3 with a walk, dropping his OPS down to .588. Semien has also been hitting around the .600 OPS line as well. Saturday he went 2-for-4 with a double, raising his OPS to .582. With a good week both hitters could finally cross that .600 line.

It wasn’t easy, but the Mets have won back-to-back games! The Mets scored four runs in the first inning last night, and the Marlins slowly clawed back throughout the game. In the eighth inning, the Marlins tied the game 7-7. In the bottom of the 10th, MJ Melendez hit a two-run walk-off home run. The Mets started the series against the Marlins on a high note, but they used seven pitchers to get there. This afternoon, they’ll try the impossible – win a game in a normal fashion.

In 17 games so far into his Major League career, A.J. Ewing is batting .268 (15-56) with seven runs, one triple, one home run, six RBI, eight walks, four steals, and a .359 OBP. He has safely reached base in 13 of his 17 games this year.

Three Things To Watch For

A.J. Ewing. Ewing has been a revelation for the Mets since being called up. Over his first 17 games, he is slashing .268/.359/.357 with a 106 OPS+. That’s fourth on the Mets when you include Jared Young (and when you don’t count Eric Wagaman, who has a 237 OPS+ after four at-bats). He is fourth on the team with four stolen bases. He’s 10th in walks, but if he walks three more times, he’ll be tied for 7th.

The Bullpens are Tied. The Mets used seven relievers Friday night. The only pitcher they didn’t use was Devin Williams, who wasn’t available after his long outing on Wednesday. The Mets announced before the game that they were moving Sean Manaea back to the rotation and David Peterson to the bullpen, making both pitchers unavailable yesterday (and today). Overnight, it was reported that the Mets were optioning Tobias Myers to bring up a fresh arm. The Marlins are in a similar position. Despite Max Meyer pitching six innings last night, they still used five relievers. They have three relievers on the team who haven’t pitched since Wednesday, but today’s starter probably cannot go beyond four innings.

OPS Watch. Bo Bichette keeps flirting with a .600 OPS. He’s sitting at .592 after a 1-for-4 night where he worked a walk and scored twice. In his last 11 games, Bichette has gone 13-for-45 with a double, three home runs, and three walks, slashing .289/.333/.511. It’s not the slash line we expected when signing Bichette, but much better than his season as a whole.

WPIX

The Mets finally snapped their five-game losing streak and welcome the team that started that streak to town for a three-game set. The Marlins swept the Mets last weekend behind strong pitching and the Mets’ quiet (almost silent) bats. The series ended with the Marlins hitting a walk-off grand slam against Devin Williams to win 4-0.

The Mets had a demon-exorcising game on Wednesday. Juan Soto hit his sixth home run in seven games. Eric Wagaman hit a home run, which was also his first hit as a Met. The club scored six runs off seven hits. The pitching held the Reds to four runs despite them recording eight hits and nine walks. Cincinnati loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but Williams was able to work his way out of the jam without allowing a run. Hopefully this allows everyone to relax and power through the Marlins this weekend.

Game Notes

Manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Francisco Alvarez begins a rehab assignment next week, and that he looks “pretty normal” just a little over two weeks removed from undergoing right meniscus surgery.

Mendoza added that David Peterson is set to move to the bullpen. Sean Manaea will take over his role as either a starter or the bulk reliever following an opener.

Three Things To Watch For

Juan Soto. Juan Soto is doing Juan Soto things. In his last seven games, Soto has gone 9-for-24 at the plate with six home runs, slashing an absurd .375/.423/1.125. In his last 12 games, he has gone 17-for-44 with eight home runs and seven walks, slashing .386/.471/.932. He is now slugging .594 on the season, which is the second-highest mark of his career. He also has a 180 OPS+, which is the second-highest in his career. If the Mets can turn it around this season, it’s going to be because of a Herculean effort from Soto.

Please, do not walk this way. The Mets walked nine batters on Wednesday and have walked 211 this season, which is the eighth-most in the majors. This was a struggle for the 2025 Mets as well, who allowed the seventh-most free passes in the majors.

Mark Vientos. In his last seven games, Vientos has gone 3-for-24 at the plate with one RBI and 7 Ks (.125/.160/.125). As Vientos continues to hit behind Soto, and while Soto continues scorch the cover off of the baseball, pitchers will start working around Soto to get to Vientos. Vientos is the only player in the lineup who has hit Meyer well. Maybe some magic happens tonight!

Let’s go Mets!

The Mets try to snap their five game losing streak tonight. The Mets went 5-1 against the Tigers and Yankees in their last homestand, giving hope that they could turn their season around. They then split a four game series against the Nationals. Then they got swept by the Marlins and are on the verge of getting swept by the Reds, erasing all of the gains from from their 5-1 home stand. This is a team that desperately needs a win.

Tong looked great in his major league debut last week, holding the Marlins hitless and scoreless over three innings while striking out two batters. He managed to do this in only 28 pitches.
Game Notes

Jorge Polanco started his rehab assignment on Wednesday afternoon with Double-A Binghamton. He went 1-for-2 with a single and a strike out as the DH.

The Triple-A Syracuse Mets already played today, too. They lost 8-4, but Kevin Parada continued his hot start in Syracuse with a hit, walk an RBI. He has a .979 OPS in five games with Syracuse.

Three Things To Watch For

Huascar Brazobán. Brazobán will open tonight for Jonah Tong. Over 22 games this season Brazobán has pitched 26 innings with a 1.73 ERA, 3.38 FIP, 0.923 WHIP and a 230 ERA+. In his last five games he has pitched 7 1/3 innings allowing one unearned run while striking out five batters (0.00 ERA, 2.53 FIP). The Mets are 2-1 in games that Brazobán opens.

Base runners. The Mets hitting woes continued last night. They have now scored eight runs in their last six games, maxing out a two runs scored in three of them. Yesterday the Mets managed to get only five hits and two walks while the Reds racked up 15 hits. It’s just demoralizing, but can also flip with one good game.

Juan Soto still exists though. Juan Soto stayed hot yesterday getting his 11th home run on the season, returning to the lineup after missing two games with an illness. he now has a .571 SLG, which is the highest in his career.

Let’s go Mets!

The Mets will try to end their four-game slide today as they take on the Reds for Game 2 of their series.
Chase Burns is off to quite the start this season. He’s tossed 59 innings over 10 starts with a 1.83 ERA, 3.36 FIP, 0.949 WHIP and a 234 ERA+. Over four starts in May he has allowed only two runs over 25 innings, both on solo home runs, while striking out 25 batters (0.72 ERA, 2.83 FIP).

This will be his first time facing the Mets, and no one on the Mets roster has faced him before in a major league game.

Game Notes

Joining Minter and Young on the roster, Eric Wagamam was also brought to the MLB squad.

Jonathan Pintaro and Nick Morabito were optioned to Triple-A, and Tyrone Taylor was placed on the IL. To make room for Minter, Luis Robert Jr. was placed on the 60-day injured list.

Three Things To Watch For

Veterans Leading. Bo Bichette and Marcus Semien both came through for the Mets yesterday. Bichette went 3-for-4 while Semien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Both veterans still have an OPS below .600. Hopefully, yesterday was the sign of something starting for both players. The Mets have dug themselves into a big hole, and they’ll need Bichette and Semien to start hitting consistently to dig themselves out of it.

Jared Young. Young was hitting the cover off the ball before he tore his meniscus. Over 11 games, Young went 7-for-20 with two doubles and two walks (.350/.391/.450). He accumulated 0.4 bWAR, which is actually 5th on the Mets for hitters right now (and says more about the bats on the Mets right now).

A.J. Minter. Minter has been out for a little more than a year recovering from lat surgery. Minter was a major signing for the Mets before the 2025 season looked great. Over 13 games, 11 innings, Minter had a 1.64 ERA, 1.95 FIP, 1.000 WHIP and a 256 ERA+. The bullpen has not been the Mets issue this season, but more quality arms can only help in the long run.

Let’s go Mets!

SNY

The Mets are coming off a terrible road trip after a sweep in Miami and hope to turn things around back home. In the last four games, the Mets have scored four runs and have lost the last three. On Sunday, the Mets fell apart in the bottom of the ninth, a game that was 0-0 going into that frame. Things are bleak, and last weekend’s comeback against the Yankees feels like a century ago.

The only thing that fixes this is winning games. For the Mets, that means scoring runs. It’s a dreary Memorial Day in Queens, but maybe the Mets’ bats can provide some sunshine.

Nolan McLean looks to bounce back from his last start, where he allowed nine runs, six earned, over 5 2/3 innings against the Nationals. It was a weird game and felt more fluky than anything else. Overall, McLean has made 10 starts in 2026, totaling 58 innings with a 3.57 ERA, 3.19 FIP, 1.034 WHIP and a 111 ERA+.
Three Things To Watch For

Fully demoralizing. There were some positive signs, like Ewing getting his third stolen base and Benge getting his ninth. The Mets have to get runners home this afternoon.

Marcus Semien. The Mets have to get Marcus Semien going at the plate. He’s hitting .214/.263/.297 with a 61 OPS+. His OPS+ has never been this low before, and his .560 OPS is by far the lowest in his career (.750 career OPS). In Miami, Semien went 0-for-10. In the eight games before that, he was starting to put things together, going 8-for-31 with a double, two walks and a home run.

Contain Sal Stewart. Sal Stewart is off to a terrific start this season, slashing .256/.352/.487 over 52 games this season with a 130 OPS+.
The New York Mets look to salvage the series and avoid the sweep this afternoon against the Marlins. Friday night the Mets lost 2-1. Saturday, the Mets lost 4-1. Going back to Thursday the Mets have scored only four runs. Hopefully, the Mets’ offense can wake up this afternoon in Miami.

Christian Scott has pitched 19 2/3 innings over five starts this season with a 4.12 ERA, 3.65 FIP, 1.475 WHIP, and a 97 ERA+. He also has 25 strikeouts this season (11.4 K/9).

Walks have been Scott’s growth area this season. Last time out he notched three of them, combined with four hits meant an early exit.

The only members of the Marlins to face Scott in a major league game are Xavier Edwards (2-for-2) and Otto Lopez (0-for-3, K).

Marlins Lineup

Game Notes

After originally being in the lineup, Juan Soto was scratched due to an illness late Sunday morning according to manager Carlos Mendoza.

Per manager Carlos Mendoza, infielder Jorge Polanco is taking live at-bats in Port St. Lucie Sunday and if he progresses well, could go on a rehab assignment “pretty soon.”

Three Things To Watch For

Get hits. The Mets have recorded three hits in each game of this series so far. Friday night, Juan Soto had two of them and Saturday, Mark Vientos had two of them. That’s just not enough to get runs across. We have seen this time collectively slump before, now it’s time for them to collectively break out of it.

Rough weekend for the kids. The rookies shouldn’t have to carry the Mets and at times this season they needed to. Friday night Benge went 0-3 with a walk. His outs were loud, with great plays being made in center field. However, yesterday, Benge went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Ewing had his first real rough game Saturday also going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Nick Morabito is still looking for his first major league hit going 0-for-7 with six strikeouts over three games this season.

Devin Williams. The Mets last used Williams in a save situation last Thursday where he allowed a hit and no runs against the Nationals. In 19 games this season, 16 2/3 innings, Williams has a 4.32 ERA, 2.31 FIP, 1.440 WHIP, and a 93 ERA+. In his last 10 games, 9 2/3 innings, he has a 0.00 ERA, 1.23 FIP and has struck out 12 batters. He’s in the 97th percentile for chase rate, 99th for whiff rate, 97th for strikeout rate, 90th for xERA, and 92nd for xBA.
