Morning Briefing: Machado Comes Off the Board

Good Morning Mets Fans!! There are 36 days left until Opening Day!!

At 12:24 P.M. Jeff Passan of ESPN sent out a tweet that floored every baseball fan alive. The San Diego Padres had signed the co-star of the free-agent market, shortstop/third baseman, and greatest fielder alive Manny Machado.

Machado, 26, was handed a record-shattering 10-year, $300 million deal with an opt-out after year five. With Fernando Tatis Jr.steadily moving up the pipeline, the Padres could own the best left-side of baseball in a few years. With Machado, the Padres’ offense should be a force to be reckoned with. Stay Classy, San Diego

Meanwhile, the Mets are ecstatic that Machado didn’t land in the NL East with one Mets official saying: “Now let Harper sign with the Giants and call it a winter.”
