Cherington Won’t Interview For Mets GM Position

Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets will not be interviewing former Red Sox GM Ben Cherington for the vacant GM position.

Many in the industry had considered Cherington a favorite to land the job if he so desired, but according to Martino and his sources, he will not even get an interview as it has been reported that he is happy in his current role in Toronto.

Cherington has been serving as the VP of Baseball Operations for the Toronto Blue Jays since December of 2017 under Mark Shapiro, who has also been mentioned as a candidate to join the Mets’ front office.

Ben Cherington, 44, served as the Boston Red Sox GM from the end of the 2011 season until 2015 after Theo Epstein decided to join the Chicago Cubs. Cherington won one title (2013) during his time as GM with them.
