It’s been a turbulent 2018 season for New York Mets youngster Dominic Smith though he’s making the most of his recent opportunity at the major league level.
On Wednesday night, he went 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer. The 23-year-old Smith is now 6-for-18 with two doubles and two homers since being recalled again from Triple-A Las Vegas.
He’s also homered in three of his last five major league starts (3 of 4 at first base) and is 8-for-24 in his last two MLB stints.
The former top prospect has played a solid first base recently despite having to venture out to left field every once in a while where he’s clearly not a fit.
Jay Bruce, another potential Mets first baseman in 2019, homered as well on Wednesday. He went 1-for-3 with the grand slam and is now hitting .275/.362/.569 since coming off the disabled list.
