The Mets look to build off last night’s win in Miami tonight behind Corey Oswalt. Last night, Zack Wheeler continued his resurgence allowing only two runs over seven innings off four hits while striking out eight (both runs coming in his last inning) and Seth Lugo/Drew Smith pitched a clean sheet behind him. The offense responded by scoring six runs off 13 hits including a three hit day by Rosario and Jackson and a two hit day by Flores and Frazier.

The Mets will get another look at Corey Oswalt who is 1-2 over 33.1 innings from seven games and six starts recording a 5.13 ERA, 5.40 FIP, 1.050 WHIP and 74 ERA+. He’s coming off an average start against the Braves where he allowed three runs over six innings and since July 4, he has posted a 3.81 ERA over 26.0 innings. His only really bad outing this year, off weird rest, came in Miami on June 29 where he allowed six runs over 2.2 innings. The Marlins have the following numbers against him:

  • Anderson 1-for-2
  • Castro 1-for-2
  • Dietrich 0-for-0, 2 BB
  • Realmuto 1-for-2
  • Riddle 1-for-2, HR

The bats will look to continue the hits from yesterday against Dan Straily who is 4-5 over 18 games and 93.0 innings with a 4.35 ERA, 5.45 FIP, 1.387 WHIP and a 86 ERA+. His last time out he allowed two runs off one hit over 5.1 innings, which was a rebound from his previous start where he allowed 8 runs, five earned over 3.1 innings. In April he had a good start against the Mets where he allowed one run over six innings and then at the start of July he allowed three runs over seven innings. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

RHP Franklyn Kilomé, who the Mets acquired in the Asdrúbal Cabrera trade, struck out 10 over 6.2 innings for Binghamton (AA) at Reading last night. Kilomé has a 2.95 ERA (six earned runs/18.1 innings) with 20 strikeouts in three starts with Binghamton.

Austin Jackson has had back-to-back three-hit games and has three hits in three of his last four games. Has gone 17-for-36 (.472) with three doubles, two homers and nine RBI since joining the Mets on July 27 with a .513 OBP and a .722 slugging percentage (12 games). Jackson leads the majors with a .472 batting average and is third with a .513 OBP since July 27 (min. 20 at-bats). He is 12-for-his-last-20 (.600) and has reached base safely in eight of his nine starts.

Amed Rosario tied his career-high with three hits last night. It was the seventh time in his career he’s had three hits in a game, fifth time this season. Rosario has three RBI in his last two games. Rosario is tied for second in the NL with five stolen bases since the All-Star break. He has been successful in 10 of his last 12 stolen base attempts. Rosario is the ninth Met overall with a double-digit stolen base output before his age-23 season. Overall, he is tied for seventh in the majors with six triples.
