Game Recap: Mets Lose Previously Suspended Game 2-1 to Cubs

The New York Mets (58-74)  lost the suspended game against the Chicago Cubs (78-53) by a score of 2-1 in the 11th inning at Wrigley Field.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom pitched brilliantly on the mound tonight vs. the Cubbies.

The right-hander pitched eight innings, struck out 10 batters, and gave up only one earned run. He also lowered his ERA to 1.68.

Seth Lugo pitched a scoreless inning in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Paul Sewald came in for the Mets and it did not go well. After letting the leadoff hitter reach, he threw away a bunt and that put the Cubs in a prime position to win the game. Naturally, the Cubs won minutes later.

Hitting:

In the top of the sixth inning, deGrom helped himself in the run support department by driving in the first run of the game with an opposite-field single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.

The Mets were 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.

Amed Rosario continues to stay hot in the leadoff spot as he went 3-for-5.

On Deck:

The Mets and Cubs are currently playing another game today. Jason Vargas has the ball for the Mets against Alec Mills. The game will air on SNY and can be heard on WOR.

Dilip Sridhar added today’s portion of the game recap.
