Game Recap: Lowly Mets Fall to Lowly O’s 6-3

The New York Mets (50-67) were defeated for the third straight time this season by the Baltimore Orioles (36-84) tonight at the score of 6-2.


Jason Vargas  had a solid outing against the Orioles tonight. Vargas pitched six innings, only giving up two earned runs, and struck out one batter. His performance tonight unfortunately earned him a no-decision.

Vargas was relieved in the seventh inning as right-hand pitcher Bobby Wahl  that was acquired in the Jeurys Familia trade with the Oakland Athletics came in to pitch.

Wahl struggled in his appearance giving up two earned runs including a go-ahead home run to Chris Davis to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead.

Paul Sewald came into the seventh with two runners on base and only gave up one hit which brought in another run to score for the Orioles making it 4-2.

Sewald continued to pitch into the bottom of the eighth. He gave up a two-run homer to shortstop Tim Beckham to add on to the deficit making it a 6-2 game.

Tyler Bashlor came in to get the final out of the eighth inning stranding two runners at base to get out of the inning.


In the top of the fifth inning, Mets were trailing 1-0 with runners at first and second with two outs.Kevin Plaweckiwas up to bat and came through with an opposite field base hit to bring in the tying run to tie it 1-1.

Next batter, Amed Rosario lines a base hit into center field to bring in the go- ahead run to make it a 2-1 lead.

Brandon Nimmo in the ninth hit a lead-off triple to start the inning, then next batter Todd Frazier gets on base with a throwing error and Nimmo scores the third Mets run.

The Mets offense left six runners on base and were three for nine with runners in scoring position.

On Deck

Tommorow the Mets will be playing the finale of the two game series against the Baltimore Orioles. Zack Wheeler will be on the mound as he looks to continue his impressive run as he opposes right-hand pitcher Dylan Bundy. Game time will be at 7:05 p.m. EST.
