Mets Discussing Wheeler, Cabrera With Brewers

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the New York Mets are discussing right-handed starter Zack Wheeler and infielder Asdrubal Cabrera with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Rosenthal also notes that there is no indication of a deal being close between the two teams.

It was recently reported by Buster Olney of ESPN that the Mets were scouting the Brewers’ Double-A team.

Both Wheeler and Cabrera are getting interest from multiple teams as the trade deadline inches closer. Wheeler is a free agent after next season and Cabrera after the conclusion of the 2018 season.

The 28-year-old Wheeler has a 4.33 ERA, 3.69 FIP and 109 strikeouts in 114.1 innings this year for the Mets. The Brewers recently lost starter Brent Suter for the rest of the season.

Cabrera is hitting .277/.329/.488, .349 wOBA, 122 wRC+ on the season and could provide an offensive boost to a team who picks him up. The Brewers second basemen have just a 68 wRC+ this year.
