Diamondbacks Close to Acquiring Eduardo Escobar

Ken Rosenthal and Dan Hayes of The Athletic reported that the Minnesota Twins were close to trading infielder Eduardo Escobar to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports says that the two teams have an agreement in place for the versatile Escobar.

The Twins will receive righty Jhoan Duran and outfielders Gabriel Maciel and Ernie De La Trinidad from the D’Backs according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo. MLB Pipeline had Maciel as the Twins No. 11 prospect and Duran at No. 19.

Escobar, a free agent after the season, is hitting .274/.338/.514 with a career-high 37 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs and 63 RBI in 97 games for the Twins.

The 29-year-old has played 77 games at third base, 21 at shortstop and one at second base this season. He has 3 DRS at third base where he is likely to play for the D’Backs after Jake Lamb went down with an injury recently.

Escobar has already posted a career best 2.6 WAR in 2018 and has played every position but first base during his eight season major league career.

The Diamondbacks are one of the teams that have shown interest in Mets pending free agent Asdrubal Cabrera.
