Cespedes Hits Against Syndergaard in Simulated Game

There is no doubt that the New York Mets are missing the offensive firepower that outfielder Yoenis Cespedes brings to their lineup.

However, he did take a considerable step in that process today at Citi Field. As per a video from Tim Britton of The Athletic, Cespedes hit in a simulated game against Noah Syndergaard.

Syndergaard is also on the disabled list (strained finger ligament) but is expected to return to action this weekend.

In 37 games this season (152 plate appearances), Cespedes is hitting .255/.316/.474 with eight home runs, 28 runs batted in, and six doubles. After slashing just .233/.292/.437 through April, he was 11-for-39 in May before getting hurt.

Cespedes is expected to do some light running and fielding work tomorrow. He is not expected to play in any minor league rehab games.
