Bruce Unavailable Tonight, Likely Out Friday

As Jay Bruce continues to battle nagging injuries, as well as his ongoing struggles at the plate (and in the field), the New York Mets have decided to give the right fielder a couple of days off.

As per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the team will keep the beleaguered veteran out of the lineup tonight and tomorrow night against the Arizona Diamondbacks as he attempts to recover from a lower back/butt/hip injury.

Bruce, 31, signed a three-year, $39 million deal to come back to the Mets this past off-season and has dramatically underperformed.

Over the course of his eleven-year career, Bruce has a .247/.318/.466 slash line with 162-game averages of 31 home runs, 31 doubles, and 94 runs batted in.

This season Bruce is hitting just .216/.297/.327 with three homers and seventeen runs batted in through 61 games (208 at-bats).

Brandon Nimmo will start in right field tonight, with Jose Bautista getting the start in left.
