Morning Briefing: Wheeler, Mets Look For Series Win

Good morning Mets fans! The Mets will look to bounce back and take the rubber game as they send Zack Wheeler to the mound against Sal Romano tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. The game can be seen on SNY and heard on 710 WOR.

Yesterday, Jason Vargas was roughed up for the third straight start as the Mets were defeated by the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 7-2 on Tuesday night at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

The Mets announced Tuesday that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt from Triple-A Las Vegas. In a corresponding move, the team has sent down left-hander P.J. Conlon.

The New York Mets have traded RHP Matt Harvey to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for catcher Devin Mesoraco and cash, the team announced on Twitter.

In corresponding moves, the team placed Todd Frazier on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain, and to make room on the 40-man roster, they’ve moved Anthony Swarzak to the 60-day disabled list.

With Frazier going to the DL, the Mets are expected to call up INF Luis Guillorme for some added infield depth.

The New York Mets received some good news yesterday regarding starting pitcher Jacob deGrom. After a two-inning, 46-pitch simulated outing, deGrom told Matt Ehalt of The Record, “Feel like I’m good to go.”

Noah Syndergaard came away from another mediocre start over the weekend with a new desire to implement an old idea: elevate his fastball, not his pitch count.

Mets Triple-A Las Vegas outfielder Bryce Brentz fractured a bone in his foot and will miss 4-6 weeks, per Betsy Helfand.
