Morning Briefing: Wheeler Looks to Finish Two Game Series Sweep

Good morning Mets fans! This afternoon, Zack Wheeler (2-2, 5.03 ERA) will face J.A. Happ (4-3, 4.80 ERA) as the Mets will look to complete the two-game series sweep at 1:10 p.m. at Citi Field.

Last night the Mets offense exploded for twelve runs and sixteen hits, as they defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 12-2 at Citi Field.

As per Anthony DiComo of, New York Mets’ outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has been nursing a mild strain of his right hip flexor.

From Tim Healey of Newsday, Mets’ GM Sandy Alderson said Cespedes, “is prepared to be realistic” about possibly spending some time on the disabled list and that he and the team plan on coming to a decision over the next few days.

According to Anthony Dicomo of, the Mets have bumped up Jacob deGrom’s next start a day from Saturday to Friday night at Citi Field against the Diamondbacks. Steven Matz will now pitch Saturday, and Noah Syndergaard will make his start on Sunday.
