DeGrom Activated, Baumann Optioned To Triple-A

Tim Healey of Newsday reports that Mets have optioned Buddy Baumann to Triple-A Las Vegas to make room for Jacob deGrom‘s activation from the 10-day DL.

The left-hander did not make an appearance for the team in his time with the club as last night’s game was rained out and he technically had to serve a one-game suspension from 2017 on Friday night, therefore he was ineligible to appear in the game.

With the lefty already having served his suspension now, he could very well become an option to be recalled in the coming days as Jerry Blevins will be going on the paternity list.

It would make sense for Baumann to replace the lefty-specialist as the team would not have one otherwise.

The former seventh-round pick has a 3.58 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 10.1 K/9 in 27.2 major league innings that spread over three seasons for the Padres.

Of note, in his brief major league career, he has held lefties to a .163/.321/.256 slash line in 54 plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Jacob deGrom will make his first start back from the disabled list today against the Philadelphia Phillies after missing one start with a hyperextended right elbow.
