Mickey Callaway has announced that Zack Wheeler will start on Wednesday night against the Miami Marlins, meaning Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz and Wheeler are about to make a rotation turn together for the first time ever!

On starting Wheeler over both Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo, Callaway said both Gsellman and Lugo have become too valuable in the bullpen, so the Mets prefer to leave them there.

Callaway told reporters Jason Vargas’s simulated game went well on Saturday. He said the Mets are not sure what the next step is, but it will be Thursday. Vargas will need to pitch in an actual minor league game before returning to the majors.

After last night’s conversation on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball about Alex Rodriguez wanting to be a Met, Bobby Valentine tweeted out, “I always wanted A-Rod to be a Met. Wow. What a difference.”
