Morning Briefing: It’s All About the Money

Good morning Mets fans! On Tuesday, Jeff Wilpon talked about the current state of the Mets payroll and said that money doesn’t necessarily translate into wins.

According to Matt Ehalt of North, Wilpon said, “I get where the fan perception is. We have a plan and because we believe in Sandy and the baseball department, we’re going to stick with that plan.”

Anthony Dicomo of has reported that the Mets and Jacob deGrom had preliminary talks this winter about a contract extension. However, talks never gained much traction and the sides mutually agreed to do an arbitration settlement.

According to Mike Puma of the NY Post, Sandy Alderson and members of the Mets front office will speak to season ticket holders sometime today. Puma noted that Jeff Wilpon will not be in attendance.

Puma also said that the Mets expect to bring 1-2 non-roster starting pitchers into camp.

As far as said third base goes, Puma heard the Mets still view Todd Frazier as a possibility. Mike Moustakas on the other hand, seems to be out of the question.

The Mets named Jim Cavallini the director of performance and sports science. Cavallini most recently worked with the Army at Fort Bragg. Brian Chicklo was also promoted to the role of head trainer.
