Morning Briefing: Stanton Rumors are Heating Up

The Giancarlo Stanton rumors are finally starting to get legs. Signs that the winter is progressing are upon us! The Mets will have some 40-man roster decisions to make this weekend, rosters are required to be set by Monday night.

The Mets signed Matt Purke to a minor league deal. Purke has had injuries in the past and was in the minors for 2017. He held lefties to a .192/.314/.222 slash in the minors and was once a top draft prospect coming out of high school.

John Hart stepped down as the President of Baseball Operations of the Atlanta Braves. Hart lost a lot of power after the recent front office transition.

Mark Feinsand of reported that the Yankees will interview Chris Woodward for their managerial job. Rob Thompson, Aaron Boone, Hensley Meulens, and Eric Wedge are the other candidates.

Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reports that the Marlins are fielding offers for Giancarlo Stanton and the Giants have made a proposal. The Red Sox and Cardinals are expected to make bids as well.

Joe Stiglich of NBC says the Athletics have hired former Nationals manager, Matt Williams, as their third base coach.
