Morning Briefing: Sandy Speaks To The Media

Legendary Mets outfielder, Carlos Beltran, retired yesterday. Beltran is third among Mets position players in WAR behind only Darryl Strawberry and David Wright.

Sandy Alderson also spoke to Mets reporters yesterday at the GM meetings.

Alderson said the Mets will add two new positions to their training staff. This includes a person who would be focused on training, health data, and recovery.

Alderson also told reporters that he is focused on building a better bullpen to help the pitching staff.

According to Marc Carig of Newsday, the Mets will be interested in some of the relief arms like Brandon Morrow, Bryan Shaw, Mike Minor, and Addison Reed.

Alderson mentioned that he would like a second baseman and Carig added the Mets will likely be looking at the trade route for a second baseman.

Alderson added the Mets want a power bat and said that Dominic Smith did not win the first base job in September.

Last but not least, Alderson told reporters that Tom Slater will be the assistant hitting coach to Pat Roessler.

Mike Puma of the NY Post says the Mets see Wily Peralta as a swingman option for 2018.
