MLB News Roundup: Martinez Seeks Monster Deal, Mets In On Ohtani?

Outfielder J.D. Martinez is reportedly seeking a monster seven year, $210 million deal this winter, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Martinez recently switch his services to super agent Scott Boras.

The proclaimed “Japanese Babe Ruth” Shohei Ohtani will reportedly be taking his talents to the USA, and the Mets are said to be interested, according to David Lennon and Marc Carig of Newsday.

Ohtani, 23, will be one of the most sought after commodities on the open market this offseason and the Mets reportedly view him as a pitcher who can also play outfield from time to time.

The San Diego Padres have had internal discussions about bringing in the services of first baseman Eric Hosmer, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

The Kansas City Royals extended the 28-year-old a qualifying offer which he is expected to reject.

According to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag, the Minnesota Twins are looking at top-tier free agent pitchers after their big turn around in 2017 that saw them clinch a Wild Card berth. Yu Darvish and Jake Arrieta are the two most appealing names, with the former being taken into higher consideration.

Former Met Lucas Duda is drawing early interest on the open market from the Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

In addition to the Mets, the Toronto Blue Jays have also expressed interest in outfielder Lorenzo Cain, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.
