Morning Briefing: Justin Turner Overdrive Takes Care of Business

Tonight, the Astros will look to move up 3-0 in the ALCS against the Yankees. C.C. Sabathia will face local pitcher, Charlie Morton in the Bronx.

On Sunday night, the Cubs and Dodgers were locked up in a 1-1 stalemate until former Met Justin Turner sent everyone home in the ninth with an epic three run walk-off blast. It was on the anniversary of Kirk Gibson‘s iconic walk-off homer in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. The Dodgers bullpen was absolutely dominant and now have eight scoreless innings in the playoffs.

In another mind boggling move, Cubs skipper Joe Maddon used John Lackey over Wade Davis in the ninth to face Turner. The move will be widely criticized and rightfully so.

MLB Pitcher, Daniel Webb, passed away Saturday in an ATV accident. Webb was just 28 and we here at MMO send our thoughts and prayers to Webb’s family.

Latest Mets News

MLBTR did an offseason outlook for the Mets and were definitely not high on Mets first baseman Dominic Smith, writing:

“As right-handed hitters, Wilmer Flores and T.J. Rivera could be platoon mates at first for the lefty-swinging Dominic Smith, but the Mets might want to find an upgrade there. Smith, who debuted with the Mets in August as a top 100 prospect, was woeful during his 183-PA introduction in 2017. While the Mets don’t necessarily have to abandon hope on the 22-year-old, they also shouldn’t hand him the job at first next season if their goal is to contend. ”

The Mets will interview Alex Cora and Joe McEwing this week according to Newsday.
